Video Transcript for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness Review

Brad Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the vehicle-specific wiring harness, that will work in conjunction with the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller. These harnesses are going to be great to work with your Tow-Pro Elite in a variety of different trucks and SUVs. Now, make sure that you get your vehicle-specific harness. You're going to want to use our fit guide on "etrailer.com", and that's going to make sure that you get the right harness, and that way your install goes nice and easy.

Included in the REDARC kit, you will find this plugin adapter, and this is going to have these spliced ends, and you're gonna have to tie into your brake signal, your brake output, your power output and your ground. Now, if you are pretty handy with electrical, that's awesome. That's great. You can use this. But I'm the kind of person, plug and play in OEM kind of setup or really nice factory one like this.

This is the vehicle-specific harness. So this ties in directly to our factory tow system, and clips right in, it's got this nice braided sheathing on it, to kind of protect the wires, and then it plugs directly into our module here. So, to save yourself a little bit of headache and time, and make the install go that much smoother, and not have to worry about loose connections, I highly recommend getting the vehicle-specific harness. So this end of the plug is specific to your vehicle. As you can tell, it looks like the factory plug, it fits in perfect, has the locking mechanism, so you aren't gonna have to worry about loose connections happening with your plug, and it's going to make install a lot easier.

And that was a look at the vehicle-specific harness for the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller..

Chevrolet Tahoe

Very easy installation. I installed this into my wife’s Tahoe. She doesn’t mind it at all as it’s very small and not in the way. Works well and very easy to use

by:

Excellent shopping experience! Etrailer made the whole process easy, andI couldn't have been happier. And I love the free shipping!

by:

The Redarc brake controller and harness showed up promptly. Per your information it was the correct harness, and after a little struggle, it plugged in, and it appears to be working correctly. The instructional videos were very helpful. We have not had a chance to test it fully yet, but manual control works fine.
I ended up installing it in a open area to the left of the wheel in my 2019 Escalade where the 4x4 controller would go if it were not two wheel drive.

by:
Jeep Liberty

Makes the hook up of the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller flawless with the factory wiring. Definitely recommend.

by:

They gave me advise on what was needed, it worked out. The brake controller is great, small and looks like it came as a stock install. A friend machined the hole so it would be the correct thickness. Bill did a perfect job.

by:
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Very easy to install, drill 2 small holes and insert the switch. There’s only 2 wire bundles, one between the switch and control box and one from that box to the truck that all plug in. It looks like it belongs on the dash. There’s several videos online for ideas of where to mount it.

by:

Easy install. Installed on a 2017 Chevy Silverado. I like that it is out of site and more like a factory install. etrailer makes this type of project easy with great install videos .

by:

Love this controller, nice clean look with performance to match. Wasn't wanting nothing crazy big and ugly to put in out Chevy tahoe for our camper so this small knob and under dash box makes it still look really clean.

by:

The conector doesn’t click and it came loose once already.

David, I am sorry to hear that it is happening. I wanted to see which side of the plug is coming loose? Is it on the side that plugs into the controller or the side that plugs into the vehicle?

by:

Happy whit the products easy to stall

by:

Works awesome have not had any problems at all.

This makes the installation so much easier. Well worth the money!

still working great

by:

I cancelled these parts when it advised not compatible with my 2018 Silverado. The representative checked with supplier and advised me it work! The reason it wasn't correct is the control switch required a flat surface to install and everything on this years dash is curved therefore not allowing the tps1-001 lock in. It installed loose and looks really bad . Ref order number 120535085 and 120535494. I have purchased from etrailer in past but not sure in future.

by:

It never worked! I had to tow a vehicle over 500 miles with no trailer brakes. I assumed that it was the trailer that I had rented that was malfunctioning. Needless to say five months later I needed to move another vehicle.I rented another trailer and no trailer brakes!

Yikes, that is not good! I am having our customer service team reach out to you about this as this harness comes with a warranty. Thanks for letting us know!

by:

Straight forward install. Hardest part is locating the control knob without permanently damaging a panel. I opted to replace one of my power outlets to accommodate switch. plug and play ready, controller flashed green/blue as ready to calibrate when tested

by:

Amy was really helpful.
Very good at
finding what I needed.

Made the install of my Redarc brake controller very easy.

Shipping was fast! Install was a breeze, and looks great in my Tahoe! I have yet to use it but if it works as expected/advertised my 5 star rating will remain

  • Parts Needed To Add Electric Drum Brakes To A Trailer
To determine the correct brakes for your trailer we'll need to first know the axle capacity. The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-26-27 you were looking at are designed for 3,500lb axles. From there you'll need a hub/drum assembly, which will require knowing your bearing and grease seal numbers and your wheel's bolt pattern. If you can't read the numbers on your bearings and grease seal then you can measure the spindle at points B, C, and D to get the inner diameter so that we can...

The best brake controller for your Yukon XL is going to be the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Yukon decelerates. The reason the Tow-Pro Liberty is the best option is because of its unique installation method where the only visible portion is the control knob that's about the size of a nickel. The main unit is hidden away inside your dash to be completely out of the way and out...

  • Troubleshooting Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Trailer Brake Controller Not Calibrating On 2017 GMC Yukon XL
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR will not always calibrate unless it has a trailer connected. It seems to vary based on the vehicle as not all the trailer systems will work when a trailer is not connected to the 7-way on your 2017 GMC Yukon XL. Since you tested the controller by pushing the button you know that it does have power going to the unit, and a good ground. Pushing on the brake is what will begin the calibration process when you have a trailer connected....

Hi Kerry, If your 2015 Cadillac Escalade has the factory tow package, which you can see the hookup for in the attached installation video linked below, then you'll be able to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR with the Redarc Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # 331-TPH-010.
