Hi there do-it-yourself-ers. Today we're gonna be taking a look at, and we're also gonna show you how to install REDARC's panel mount for the button for the Tow-Pro Elite or for the Tow-Pro Liberty. The one I'm holding in my hand here, this is the Tow-Pro Elite Switch. It's a little bit smaller than the Liberty's. Here's the Liberty switch. So you can see that the Elite here definitely is gonna have a smaller footprint, but both of these are gonna work with our mount there.
So we're gonna start with the Elite, we'll just go ahead and show you that here real quick. We're gonna unscrew the nut when installing the Elite in there, you do want the thicker part here, down towards the bottom, and that'll just slide in the back there, we'll put our nut on there and secure it down. And it screws in very easily into this mounting location which is one of the reasons I like it. The Tow-Pro Elite here, the nut is a plastic nut so it's actually strips and breaks fairly easily. So having a nice mounting location that it threads into easily can help you prevent you from cross threading it or damaging that nut cause it does break pretty easy.
And after that we're just gonna install our knob, we'll turn it fully counterclockwise, line the zero up at the top and slide that into place. And then just verify your button clicks. And with this mounting location here, if you got the nut tightened down, and you can cross thread it, everything should work out very well. I like this mounting location, this mounting button, because sometimes your panels here, depending on their thickness, you may not be able to press the button if the panel is too thick. So this way if we use this mounting location here it's already gonna give us a preset mounting thickness here on the button mount so you know it's gonna work no matter what.
So I do like that, that kind of turns any panel into a usable panel, even if it may be quite a thick paneling. So now we're gonna go ahead and pull this off of here and then we'll show you the Tow-Pro Liberty's. And for both the Tow-Pro Elite and the Tow-Pro Liberty if you did use a socket, you would use a 12 millimeter socket. I don't necessarily recommend it with these plastic buttons but if you want to just put a little extra little maybe like a 16th of a turn type of thing on there then you would be okay, or for removing it, it works well for removing it. So we're gonna set that aside.
Now we're gonna grab our Tow-Pro Liberty button. The Tow-Pro Liberty's a little bit different than the Tow-Pro Elite you can see its much bigger. We're gonna slide the button off of there. This one does have a chrome nut. It looks like it's made of metal but it's very light and it can be difficult to tell. It kind of feels like it's just a plastic with the chrome coating on it, but it may be like an aluminum or light metal. Now this ring you have here with the Tow-Pro Liberty this is what you would normally use to mount it. You can see it's at the alignment hole at the top for the LED. If you're using the button here we don't want to use this ring. This doesn't really fit in there. So just set that off to the side. That's for if you're doing a bare mount with our Tow-Pro Liberty, the LED indicator is at the top unlike the Tow-Pro Elite where the LED is made into the shaft portion of it. So that little LED at the top needs to line up with that small hole that's at the top of our button there. So we're gonna go ahead and slide that in now, that lines right up on there and we just take our nut and thread it into place. Man, I can't quite get that one all the way snug so we'll grab our 12 millimeter socket and that's as far as I'm gonna tighten it there so we don't wanna over tighten it. So now we're gonna take our knob here just barely push it on there just enough and turn it all the way counterclockwise. Once you've got the knob there, turn fully counterclockwise we're gonna take the button here, put the zero at the top line it up with that little LED indicator push it into place, and again verify you can press the button but that's why this mounts so nice. It should give you the proper depth for our button to press nicely. And it gives us a nice mounting location that almost looks like it's a factory piece that was just supposed to be there. What else is nice about these pieces is while we mounted ours by drilling into the paneling which you can do cause it is a universal mount it is also a knockout replacement. So if you do have some knockouts like some vehicles have like a row buttons in a row and you can knock out one of the blanks if there's not a button there, maybe 'cause there's a certain option the vehicle could come equipped with but they don't have it, you can knock those out and a lot of times this'll slide in place. Now this is a universal one though, so different manufacturers do use slightly different size knockouts with slightly different indentations on them so you may have to modify that hole a little bit in order for this universal one to to fit. We do also have some custom fit knockout REDARC brackets here at etrailer that for these mounting buttons, but it is kind of limited so you just wanna check our fit guide and see if there is one available. If not, then you can use this one here. And that completes our look at REDARC's panel mount for the Tow-Pro Elite or Tow-Pro Liberty button..

Mounting panel creates a factory look for your vehicle's dash when you install the control knob from your Tow-Pro brake controller. Works on dash panels that are up to 9/32" thick. Drilling template and self-adhesive tape included.Used this on 2025 Honda Pilot Trailsport to install Redarc trailer brake controller. To left of steering wheel was an unused switch spot. After removing the plug, this item fit well even though it’s not specifically designed for this vehicle. I did use a small amount of hot glue to firm up installation. Result is a professional looking installation.
I needed a good trailer controller for my new 2024 Honda Ridgeline. I had decided on a Redarc but needed a mounting panel and preconfigured wiring harness. I called and got excellent help from Brandy M. She was professional and proficient. I am very happy with my service and their products. Shipping was fast also!
Great add on for RedArc Brake Controller. Clear instructions, quality part really gave a professional finishing touch to the install.
I'm very happy with our Redarc trailer brake controller and the control knob blank for the dash. I installed it all myself in my husband's truck. The installation was pretty easy (except for reaching up under the dash), and the product works very well. It's so nice not to crash my knee into a bulky controller. This one sits nicely behind the dash, secured with industrial velcro. I've recommended it and etrailer to many people. Thanks, etrailer, especially for the encouraging videos that made me try this myself and save a bundle on installation.
I needed to modify the panel to be able to fit into the slot on my 2022 Honda Passport. I did this by cutting / shaping it using dremel tools. It then fit nicely and looks great.
The panel itself is great. However, the template included on the instruction sheet page is not to scale - it's printed bigger than what it should be. Good thing I measured instead of taking it at face value. Otherwise, my holes would have been too far apart and too big, ruining the dash on my new vehicle. Thus the 2 star rating. Templates are made to be used. It should be either fixed or removed from the package.
Product looks nice and fits the Redarc controller well, but the measurements for the cutout are a little too big, so the part fits loosely.
I did make it work, though, with some electrical tape.
This is in a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500
Fits perfectly in standard switch enclo sures.

The Redarc controller threw odd error codes that were not in the troubleshooting guide. Redarc customer service in NZ immediately replaced the control unit outside of warranty. They wanted the old unit back to test. The new one continues to operate flawlessly and competently. I would definitely purchase again.
I installed the Redarc trailer brake in a 2017 Chevy Colorado. It was an easy install.
This part made for a clean install.

Working like a charm and thrilled with its clean install.
I installed this brake controller in a 2019 GMC Acadia with the factory tow package. Installation was very straight forward and only took about 45 minutes. The hardest part was locating the factory wire harness that ended up being in the front of the center console near the gas pedal. Operation is simple and works very well. This as close to a factory brake controller as you can get. I highly recommend it.
If installing in a Subaru ascent button “punch-out” slot, you will need to use a dremel to make it fit and it is easy to mess up so be careful.
Handy little mount - I made a bracket out of a piece of angle aluminum and mounter it on the panel below the steering wheel near my right knee.
Drilling the two holes looks a little tricky, but just take your time and be as precise as possible when determining where to drill the holes. One hole is for the housing/switch itself, and the other (much smaller hole) is for a little extension that keeps the unit from rotating n the larger hole...if that makes sense.
Installed on a 23 Nissan Frontier with the factory tow package. The Redarc controller plugged right into the factory wiring and the weight distribution hitch worked well for our Geopro 20fks camper.
Works great with the Redarc Elite. Looks like a factory install. Only issue I had is I will need to shim it into the center as it has some play to the top and bottom (see photos). Otherwise, this is the reason I bought the Redarc, so I could have the look of a factory installed brake controller. Installed on 2017 Nissan NV 3500 Passenger Van.
Got this to make sure the redarc tow pro elite was secure. Easy to install, only issue I ran into was the amount of space that it can sit into when installed. It's about an 1/8th of an inch worth of space that it can sit in
Makes the installation look very professional and very close to a factory look.
makes the trailer brake controller install look like a factory installation!
Not exactly oem look, but functional and holds the knob for the Redarc brake controller well in a Nissan Pathfinder.
This was so easy to install. Just plug and play. Trailer website states "not confirmed to fit 2023 Honda Ridgeline" But I can tell you it fits and works great. Trailer always has great service and fast shipping. Couldn't be happier.
Purchased a second time for my newer vehicle. Last time I used a dash compartment with a Kydex plate I cut to fit. This time it's snugged into the factory brake controller slot.
Instructions call for 1" hole to mount this panel, but this mounting base is only 7/8" wide. I should have measured it first, but trusted the instructions. See photo for the result. I suggest installing the controller without using this item. If you do use it, cut a rectangular hole 1" high and a bit under 7/8" wide. Slant the top and bottom slightly with a file, as the mounting clips are not very flexible.
Toyota Tacoma 2022 this plate does’nt fit , you have to modify little bit and put hot clue in back

This switch mounting panel is universal so its not going to be a perfect fit for the Toyota Tacoma. However, we do have the custom fit panel for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma part # 331-TPSI-007.
Works as described and is compatible with my 2010 Toyota FJ cruiser.
Thank you E Trailer
Worked well for brake controller button. I would suggest better shims for this item. The soft shims are OK but several hard plastic shims matching the holder would be better
The product was great. Etrailer really needs to use a better delivery service other than snail mail. Customers will pay a little extra to get it from UPS or any other expedited company.

The Redarc brake controller works great. We only use it during the spring-summer-fall camping season, so we haven’t used it since October. We towed our camper a bit over 5,000 lbs loaded all over MN. Never had any trouble stopping. Smooth, even braking. Adjustment is easy. Probably one of the best options for a newer Silverado without the factory controller. I guess if I were to have one complaint, it would be HOW easy it is to change the setting. If anything brushes past the adjustment knob, it will change the position. Only happened one time, and we were parked getting ready to leave a campground. Dial spun from around 4 normal setting up to 10. Made the brakes hit pretty hard…
