Video Transcript for Review of Redline Trailer Wheels - Lug Nut - 12CLN

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at Today we're gonna take a look at this 1/2 inch by 20 size chrome trailer wheel lug nut. Now this is a single 1/2 inch by 20 size wheel lug nut and this is a chrome plated steel construction. Now this lug nut is the most common size lug nut size that's used on the small to medium size trailers that have eight inch up to 15 inch size wheels. And some 16 inch size wheels will still use the 1/2 inch size. And when we say 1/2 inch size what we're meaning is the diameter of the size bolt that this will thread onto.

And then the 20 is means how many threads per inch there are. And usually on the lug nuts you'll see that they do stamp the 1/2 inch under, let's you know what size it is. And I did happen to pull one of the bolts that this would screw onto. So you can see this just goes right on there, tighten it down, torque it to your specs. Now also if you notice on this lug nut, they do use a 60 degree taper and that taper will match the taper on your steel or aluminum wheels.

So when you use this lug nut with all the other lug nuts on the wheel, it allows you to center that wheel onto your wheel hub because it'll taper onto the taper of the wheel and center it. Now the height from this lug nut is gonna be 1 3/8 inches tall. The hex head size or the socket size you would use on this is gonna be 13/16 of an inch. And just to give you an idea, I happened to pull here's a 13/16 size socket and you can see how it fits right onto that 1/2 inch by 20 size lug nut. Also, what's nice about this being a longer lug nut, it provides a better grip when you're tightening or loosening your lugs because of that taller height.

Your normal factory lug nuts I happen to have one here to show you. There's your factory lug nuts that you'll see on your normal trailers and those are only about a 5/8 of an inch tall and you can see the bolt is exposed. They do not provide as much grip when you're torquing your lug nuts. And you do wanna remember that when you do install your lug nuts onto your wheels you do always want to use the correct torque for your wheel size. And also if you notice, what's nice on these is these do provide a better look with the chrome finish and the covered end and they work well on those nice looking aluminum wheels.

But that should do it for the review on this 1/2 inch by 20 size chrome trailer wheel lug nut.

@Dylan We're glad to hear that!

Timely delivery as always from etrailer. Always a great place to order parts for our travel trailer.

They look beautiful with my new aluminum wheels on my horse trailer.
Shipping was fast and packaged securely.

Bought to replace lug nuts that had the chrome covering which was falling off. Worked great and are holding up good.

Have had the lug nuts on and off several times for re-packing the wheel bearings. Still look great.

These wheels look great! Big improvement over stock rims. Quick receipt and everything was as advertised.

Great quality rims look good on the trailer better than the steel ones that trailers come with today and e trailer has good customer service very helpful when there’s an issue

everything you sent worked, no problems at all, wheels, center cap, nuts were all good. Thanks for your service.

wheels seem to be going well, plastic hub covers pitted within weeks.

Used these on a 10k flatbed trailer; the last open set of lug nuts had a couple rust over and had to replace studs. I wanted something with closed ends and lots of them. Local auto parts stores had similar parts for just a little more, however I couldn't find enough of them at a time to have them come close to a match. I got all 24 and they're working out well.

Yes, I could have gotten lugs cheaper from other big-name websites. However as I read reviews from those products, the quality was severely lacking. has good quality parts at a great price.

One year later and these are just like when I bought them. Great product.

I always use e trailer for my boat trailer and travel trailer. I recently ordered new wheels, lug nuts and stainless steel brakes. They were timely delivered and work perfectly. See attached.

Terry H.

The stainless steel brakes are still working. No issues.

To dress up my pull-behind motorcycle trailer, I purchased these wheels, tires and lugnuts. The trailer looks awesome and tows perfectly. I would definitely purchase these again.

Lloyd K.

After a year, wheels still look good. I don’t tow this trailer very often, and it it garage kept. But when I do, these tires do their job perfectly.

Nice quality

David F.

Great. Nice quality.

I needed a lug nut, couldn't find one locally so I ordered this one. It came on time and appears to be good quality. It is now installed on my trailer wheel.

These are a great addition to replace the standard trailer lug nuts. They look and work great! Just make sure you have studs that are not too long to fit. They did not work with my original wheels (and spare) but fit great on the new wheels I bought.

I bought 32 of these wheel lug nuts because when I was inspecting the wheel bearings on my 2011 Jayco Eagle 5th wheel, I found one of the original “Torq-n-go” lug nuts was broken. I discovered Torq-n-go lug nuts are no longer available, so I decided to replace all of the lug nuts with these. They are the perfect replacement and they actually look much better than the old lug nuts.
I recommend etrailer. They always come through with what I need at reasonable prices.
One photo is of the installed nuts and the other is the old and broken nuts.

Wheels look very good and radial tires will last much longer than bias ply. Also, the boat trailer rides smoother.

These chrome lugs were just what I needed to dress up my box trailer wheels. Great price too.

Big D.

Still looks like new.

92 Bass Cat. Nice wheels. Ordered 12 lug nuts but 2 were a different size. Other than that. Quick delivery and good customer service

They are amazing.

Yes I did receive my order today and everything was packaged well and in excellent shape.

I have attached some photos of the 14" Lionshead Jaguar wheels, chrome centercaps and chrome lugnuts mounted on my 2011 Rockwood Mini Lite, as well as the Adco spare tire cover. Both look great!

Very impressed w the quality of the wheels. Had 2 steel wheels crack so thankfull that won’t be an issue with these. They also made my trailer look so much better!

I bought 26 of these chrome lug nuts from 24 for 4 wheels with 6 lugs per wheel and a couple of spares. All of the lugs nuts are very consistent in quality and finish, and all went on the lugs smoothly. What more can you ask for? Looks to be a great product at a very reasonable price.

Good quality materials.

A lot better than the old ones that were laminated but you couldn’t get off these are solid steel but they are starting to rust just a bit will have to keep on top of them with WD-40 or other lubricant Ok

I purchased a new set of lug nuts to finish off the wheels on our 1990 Fleetwood Prowler Regal travel trailer. I had repainted the rims and installed new tires, and polished the beauty rings and center caps, but the original lug nuts looked shabby.
A major name-brand auto parts store in our area wanted more for the same lug nuts I purchased here.
I think they look great, and they installed without any problems.

Wheels look great on my horse trailer.

  • Recommended 13" Wheels For 175/80D13 Tires On Boat Trailer
I would be happy to recommend the correct wheels for your boat trailer with 175/80D13 tires. There are two different bolt patterns commonly used with 13" boat trailer wheels being 5 on 4-1/2", and 4 on 4", but I recommend measuring the bolt pattern using the included help article to confirm you bolt pattern before placing your order for the wheels. If your trailer uses the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern I recommend the Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 13" x 4-1/2" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized Finish...

They of course can be purchased separately and mounted at a local shop. • Why Are Powder Coated Steel Wheels Not Recommended For Fresh Water Boat Trailer
The # AM32161 and # AM32153 have powder coated steel wheels which is why they aren't recommended for a boat trailer. Since you're going to be using the trailer for fresh water and not salt water they wouldn't be as susceptible to corrosion, but it still poses a problem. The powder coat will suffer from chips and cracks over time, which will allow water to seep in through the imperfections causing them to rust. At the very least I would choose the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire...

  • Will the Aluminum Sendel Series T07 Black Machined Trailer Wheel Fit a 205/75R15 Tire
Yes, the Aluminum Sendel Series T07 Black Machined Trailer Wheel # AM97XR will work with your 205/75R15 tires. The 205/75R15 tire will fit rim widths of 5-inch, 5-1/2-inch, 6-inch and 6-1/2-inch and the # AM97XR are 6-inch. From what I can find on the Aluminum Sendel Series T07 Black Machined Trailer Wheel # AM97XR, it does not have steel in the lug nut holes. It is aluminum like the rest of the wheel. As far as lug nuts and center caps are concerned you will need lug nuts that fit 1/2"-20...

The trailer wheel part # AM22658HWTB that you referenced does not come with lug nuts or center caps so you'd need to order those separately with the # LHCS108-SI60C for the center cap and part # 12CLN for the lug nuts.

  • Long 1/2 Inch Chrome Lug Nuts for a 2005 Hitchhiker 5th Wheel Trailer
Since your old lug nuts were 2 inches long, I recommend using # 12CLN-L which has an overall length of 1-15/16 inches, close enough to call it a 2 inch long lug nut. I do not recommend the use of an impact wrench, not because of the damage like you have experienced but because the lug nuts should be torqued to a specific amount. For a 1/2"-20 it should be 75 to 85 foot pounds.

Thank you for the picture! The problem you are running into has more to do with the lug nuts you are using than the tire wrenches like part # PTW1 that you referenced. Since the Kenda Karrier S-Trail # AM31215 is a little more recessed where the lug nuts sit you need to swap out your shorter lug nuts, like part # CE11051, and replace them with taller lug nuts like part # 12CLN. Changing out the lug nuts to taller ones will allow you to easily fit a lug wrench over the lug nuts so you can...

  • What Is The Thread Pitch On The Replacement Trailer Hub Wheel Stud, Drive-In # RG03-020
The hole size that the Replacement Trailer Hub Wheel Stud, Drive-In, part # RG03-020, will use is a 1/2 inch hole. The spline diameter on the wheel stud is 0.62 inches which is a little larger and that allows the wheel stud to have a press fit when driven into a 1/2 inch hole. The thread pitch on the wheel stud is 1/2 x 20. It will accept the Chrome Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 1/2 Inch, part # 12CLN, and the Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 1/2 Inch, part # CE11051.

  • How To Determine The Correct Lug Nuts For Your Trailer's Wheels
There unfortunately isn't a guide to tell us the size needed for your specific trailer, but it's really easy to measure for the correct size lug nuts. You'll want to use a set of calipers # PTW80157 to measure the diameter of the wheel stud, including the threads and then measure the pitch by counting the threads in one inch of space on the stud. The most common sizes are 1/2"-20, 9/16"-18, and 5/8"-18. The 1/2"-20 wheel studs are typically used on small-medium duty trailers whereas the...

The # 12CLN lug nut is a small 3/4 inch so # AM90070 would have even less space. But it is longer so you would be able to get a tool on the end of the nut without a special thin-walled tool. You could also use # 12CLN-L. It is not as long as AM90070 but has the same head size.

  • What Is The Correct Lug Nut For A PJ Trailer With ST205/75-15 Tires?

I recommend using a one-piece chrome lug nut like part # AM90049 or # 12CLN.
