Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes 7-5 Review

Today we're going to review part number 7-5. This is the 3/8ths inch size brake mounting bolt for 12 inch brake assemblies. Now this brake mounting bolt is used to attach a brake assembly to your trailer. The size on this is a 3/8ths inch by 24. 3/8ths inch meaning the diameter of the bolt size right here. 24 means 24 threads per inch. Now this is a grade 5.

If you see the markings on it, there's 3 marks. That means it's a grade 5 bolt. A few measurements on this. If we do the overall length from the very top to the end, it'll be right at 1 and a quarter inches. The threaded portion is right at 1 inch. Now the head size on this, I pulled the socket that it's made to fit.

It's using a 9/16ths size socket to fit the head, which you use to tighten it down or take it off. This is also to be used with two separate products that you'll need when you install your brake assembly. One would be the lock washer. We do sell that separately. It's listed on the product page of this bolt as a related product and that's part number 38LW.

The other one would be the nut, which is part number 38N. This is the 3/8ths inch size nut and this will also be listed on the products page as a related product. This would all be used to put your brake assembly onto your trailer and just to give you an idea, the size on the nut would also be the socket size of 9/16ths. That should do it for the review on part number 7-5. This is the 3/8ths inch size brake mounting bolt for the 12 inch brake assemblies.

The axles that I ordered last year are still working out great. But even better than the parts was the service I got from etrailer. It was so great working with a company who took the time to listen to my project and help me get the right parts I needed, especially coming right off the heels of a terrible experience dealing with bad information and wrong parts from a competitor. Even with some damages in shipping, the returns/ and replacements were no hassle, with most issues being quickly resolved and not even costing me any additional downtime. As a contractor keeping a small fleet rolling, your competency and professionalism have made me a customer for life!! You guys at etrailer will be my first stop for trailer parts.

Nuts and bolts are nuts and bolts but I can report that the self-adjusting brakes have worked well on our two-thousand mile trip this summer through the mountains of Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. They stop straight and true and don't seem to fade on those long down grades like the infamous "Cabbage Hill" near Pendelton Or.

Replacing the brakes on a 50 year old FAN camper. After being assured that it had 10 inch brakes by another company"s "expert" because it has a 3500# axle, I finally received the correct 12 inch brakes from eTrailer. They arrived very quickly, and packaged well. The installation went almost as easy as the very helpful online video showed. Only difference was I had to slightly tighten the brakes to slide the hub over them, even though they are self-adjusting once in service. I have never owned or worked on a trailer before, and the installation was relatively easy. Thank you to George J for the followup email within 24 hours of delivery.

Just received my order of new backing plate assemblies and some misc small parts. Ordered on line late Sunday night, confirmed I had ordered the right parts Monday morning before shipment went out. Customer service by phone was superb and the gal I talked with was perfect. Shipment was on my porch Friday afternoon. I did open box and inspect shipment that arrived completely intact/good shape and all looked good at this point. Not sure when will get to the brakes on the trailer but will post again when the job is done. So far nothing but good to say about Regards, John.

The electric trailer brakes arrive within three days of ordering. The parts were a perfect fit. Etrailer' support is second to none! Helpful videos and live support available. The four trailer brakes were $100.00 less expensive than the nearest competitor and free shipping too!

Bought these bolts just in case and was glad I did. Turns out, my backing plates had fixed studs rather than bolts, but having these on hand made reassembly a snap. Threads matched the nuts perfectly. Highly recommend.

Could not be more pleased. My set of fully assembled brakes arrived earlier than expected and were as described. The prices at Etrailer were the lowest found while shopping for the brake assemblies. Great job Etrailer!

The whole order was perfect. I'm rebuilding the running gear on a1976 3 horse slant then remodeling the whole trailer by converting the trailer into a communications trailer for HF radio for disaster response. Front area will be living quarters. I am in our State Guard as a radio operator and also in county emergency management. This trailer will be my shelter and operating station when deployed to hurricanes and such. Since I'm spending my own funds on this, the good prices on etrailer are greatly appreciated.

bought a brake assembly that needed fastening to the axle; these nuts, bolts and washers were just what I needed. Thanks George J.

Bought brake replacement kit for 20 ft gooseneck trailer, exact fit

Hardware for my new brakes, word to the wise...get them when replacing your brakes...your trailer and patience will love you for it.

Ordered lots of parts on Monday, received most of them by Thursday. The received parts were well packaged and undamaged. A few of the parts they didn't have in stock so they had those drop-shipped to me which should be delivered in the next couple of days.
No supplier I have ordered any parts from has such a great technical reference web site or personal customer support. Yea, Rebecca - Well Done! Yes, I'm very happy with the pricing.
Thanks for your great support and I look forward to doing business with them again. More info to follow as soon as I can get the parts installed on my trailer.

Carla M. worked with me to make sure we had all the right parts for my boat trailer. I am quite happy with her help.

It was difficult to find the proper equipment for my particular vehicle. E. Trailer was a life saver and the service was super. My service rep., Nicki K. went "out of her way" to help me. Couldn't ask for more than that!

Great service. Etrailer does an excellent job of filling the orders and getting them sent. Shery was really good handling our order. Thanks again.

The parts have worked out very well and have not had any problems. Thanks again for the parts and good service.

Millard J.

Sorry it took so long to answer but have been real busy. My daughter is very happy with the parts that we have gotten from you and things are still good. Thank you for asking,

Happy with the bolts and good price.

  • Parts Needed For 7,000 lb Timbren Axle-Less System to Replace Tandem Axles
We can definitely get you set up with the 7,000 lb Timbren Axle-Less system to replace both your axles, and because the Timbrens come with the left and right side, a quantity of one would replace just one axle. So for tandem axles you will need a quantity of two of the Timbren system: - (Quantity of 2) Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 7K # TASR7KS01 Then for the hub and drum those are sold individually, while the electric brakes are sold in a pair, and you'll also need some...

  • Free-Backing Drum Brakes for M101A2 Military Dump Trailer
To check the fit and compatibility for a set of replacement hydraulic drum brakes on your M101A military dump trailer you will want to match up a few things. Those things are drum dimensions, axle weight capacity, mounting bolt pattern and the compatible wheel sizes. The linked photo shows how to check your drum size. The Dexter free-backing 12 x 2-inch brake kit you mentioned # 23-342-343 is suitable for axles rated up to 7K, they use a 5-bolt mounting pattern and they fit wheel diameters...

  • Can 12 Inch, 7,000 lb Electric Trailer Brake Kit Work on Vehicle With 24 Volt System
Though I'm not quite sure what you are referring to in regards to a misunderstanding, your truck with a 24 volt system is compatible with 12 volt electric brakes, the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-180-181. The power to the brakes will actually come via the brake controller, so you will need to wire your brake controller a bit differently in order to get working brakes. I have added a link below to a help article on how to do this,...

To replace your Dexter right-hand 6K electric drum brake 023-358-00 you can use part # 23-106-09. For a left-hand brake use part # 23-105-09. If you decide to replace both left and right brakes we offer both in a set as part # 23-105-106-09. These brakes fit both 4-bolt and 5-bolt brake mounting flanges. If you need mounting hardware you can use bolt # 7-5, lock washer # 38LW and nut # 38N.

  • Width of Brake Pads on 28 Foot Gooseneck Trailer With Dexter 10K Axles
To determine which brake assembly you need, measure the width of your brake linings, as shown in the photo I edited for you. If your existing brake shoes measure 4 inches wide, the # 23-438 you mentioned would be an example of a good replacement for you if your existing brake assemblies use 7 mounting bolts (some use 4) and the diameter of the assembly is 12-1/4 inches in diameter when measured from the outside of one brake shoe directly across to the outside of the other shoe as shown...

  • Recommended Electric Brakes For Timbren Axle-Less System And Dexter Trailer Hub/Drum
The electric brakes I recommend to use with the Trailer Hub/Drum, part # 8-219-50 and the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension, part # ASR35HDS02 is the Dexter 12 inch Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, part # 23-459 for the right hand side. For the left hand I recommend part # 23-458. The mounting hardware for the brake systems is not included. You will need part # 38LW, part # 38N, and part # 7-5. For each brake you will need 5 of each.

  • Does Brake Assembly to Brake Drum Dimension Need to be Verified When Adding Brakes to Trailer
I am not sure which exact dimension you are looking for but the good news is that if you have properly installed brake mounting flanges there would be no need to verify clearance between the brake assemblies and the drums as all of that would be positioned correctly. As long as your trailer has these requirements then the brakes will work well for you. • Selecting Correct Replacement 12 x 2 Electric Brake and Drum Assembly for 6000-lb Axle
The best way to identify the correct replacement components for your trailer is by using the part numbers from your current inner and outer bearings and grease seals (or a spindle measurement where the seal and bearings ride). It is possible to measure the spindles to obtain grease seal dimensions (location B on the photo) but this process requires care and a precision digital caliper like # PTW80157. You will also need to confirm the diameter of your wheel studs. We already know your brakes...

Since the ProLube kit # XLPROLUBE2440KIT is only rated for use on 5,200 to 6,000 pound axles I do not recommend using it for 7,000 pound axles. Grease would be better for marine applications since a hub full of grease repels water and an oil bath hub could just let the water set on top. The correct grease seal for disc brake kit # K2HR712D is # RG06-070. It does have an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the outer diameter at 3.376 inches will fit the hub in the disc brake kit. • Replacement Electric Brake Assemblies for Denali Trailer with Tandem 5.2K Lippert Axles
