Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack Recovery Track Carrier Review

Randy: Hey guys! It's Randy here at etrailer.com. And we get questions a lot about the Pioneer Style Platform rack. It's quickly becoming a very, very popular rack with a lot of people because it's so adjustable and it's so adaptable. We're going to take a look at today a recovery strap bracket kit designed for use with the Pioneer Rack. Now, I know these aren't the best recovery tracks in the world and they're not the biggest but it will get the point across.Basically, this is going to allow us to connect these right to the Pioneer track. You can see it uses full stainless steel hardware here, connects this nice, large steal black powder coat bracket and then that's going to hold our stainless steel hardware, our bolts that are going to come through our tracks. Then the knobs just tighten up to secure it on there.

All and all, it's a really nice, easy way to get our tracks up here, gets them out of the vehicle. We don't have to worry about mud. We don't have to worry about dirt, sand, things like that getting inside and it also doesn't take up any space on the actual rack. As you can see with those tracks setting over to the side, still all the room up here to get anything loaded up that we might need. Now Rhino Rack does over some that are designed to bolt right down here on the roof line. That's okay.

I mean, you'll have your tracks. Maybe you want to set them across the back here, something like that. It will work. It will be effective but I like that offset design. I like it being off to the side.

It's much easier to get to. We're not going to have to climb up and run knobs up here on top of the rack. We can get to them just from the ground off to the side. And again, we're not tying up and space here for storage.Customizing Jeeps especially or any off road for overlanding, anything like that, it's really popular. People like other people to know, Hey, I'm an off roader.

I like to do my thing. And by putting these like this on the side, it gets them visible. It gets them up there where people can see them. Now I wouldn't go around bragging about this particular set as a recovery track but all and all, it's going to put them out there. It's going to let them be seen. It's just another nice option that we can add on to kind of set our vehicle apart from all the other ones out there on the trail. Now another thing I like about these is the adaptability that they're going to offer. And we can adjust these to whatever length we want, whatever spacing between them we want to work with all the different types of tracks. We also have multiple hole locations that we can pick from. Some of these tracks are going to be a little bit wider. I don't think you'll find them much narrower than this but it's going to allow you to adjust that to customize it for each set up that you're going to have. Now we can go over just a couple of measurements to help you understand exactly how the spacing works here. Basically from the mounting bracket where our tracks are going to sit down onto the most open section that I'd want my tracks to sit, we're going to have about two three quarters of an inch. Then you can see we've got a lot different options here as far as spacing. On these oblong holes, remember that lock washer has to be on steel. We'll talk about that a little bit more when we install them but we've got five and a quarter on center. Nine and a quarter on center there. 11 on center to the outside to outside and we can even put one here and one here. One in the bottom, one here. So you have a lot of different options as far as spacing goes. Now in my opinion, I am a Jeep guy. I spend plenty of time off road doing my thing and if I had the Pioneer Rack, this would definitely be something that I would own. I like the simplicity of it. I like the adjustability of it and for your longer tracks, it'll extend. I mean, overall, it's going to be a really good system. It's nice and solid and I definitely prefer this side mount over something that mounts on top taking up additional room. Now we'll go through this set up process and how to get this rigged up and ready to go on the rack. Really all you're going to need to do the entire install is a 10mm socket and the ratchet handle. Then we're going to use a 17mm wrench and socket. You're going to have your bracket kit that's going to come with the three bolts you're going to need with washers and lock washers for each side. And you can see that just gets threaded into our plate there. That's what's going to slide down in the rack and allow us the adjustability. That's where you'll need that 10mm to the final tensioning process on that. Then we're going to have the larger bolts. Going to come with the knobs, jam nuts, lock washers. Now these are going to be positioned on this according to your actual tracks. We're using a smaller set of tracks today so we're going to be using these inside holes but I do like the versatility. Some tracks will have different holes on it so you just select the one that's going to most closely match your setup. So you're going to bring in and through the back. Going to slide a lock washer down on there and then we'll start threading our nut on. Now since these holes are oblong, they provide us with a flat washer so we need to insure that this split that is on the lock washer is sitting on metal. We don't want that to be sitting to where as we tighten it, it's going to pull itself apart. So with that sitting on metal just like that, I'm going to use my wrench to hold the nut, hold the bolt in place. Then I'm going to tighten it from the head to side. You can see that's going to compress that lock washer for us and we don't have to worry about that being pulled apart or separated. So you're just going to do that on both sides. All right. Now as far as setup, it's all there is to it. We'll head out to the Jeep. We should bring our knobs, bring our tracks, and bring that 10mm socket. We'll have this thing installed and ready to go.Now we'll take that spacer there that's connected to our 3 bolts, that's going to go in the larger hole and that larger hole is on the front or the back and you can adjust these in or out. You can see we've got three different positions there. The medium seems to work kind of the best in this situation but adjust it in or out for your preference, bring it back to where you want it, and I'm just going to hand tighten those bolts down for now and we'll do the same thing for our other one.Now before we tighten those bolts finally, you're going to want to grab your tracks. You want to make sure this spacing's appropriate. Now as you can see, we're using some pretty low-level tracks here but the good news is, these can be adjusted in and out. You can see we've brought them right through those four holes. At that point, we can use our knobs to go down there to apply some pressure on them and hold them in place. Now, again, you're probably going to be using a little more significant kind of set of tracks here. That's why I like these the adjustability. If we are using smaller ones like this, we can move them in. If we're using the larger tracks, we can bring these bolts out. We can spread this out a longer distance. So whatever your application's going to be, should work out pretty well. And once we have these positioned where we want them, got our spacing set appropriately, it'll be time to come around around to our 10mm bolts on the back. We're going to tighten them down. Now keep in mind, you don't have to over torque these. We're not holding a great deal of weight here so just nice and snug is what you're looking for.
