Hey everybody, Clayton here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rhino Rack tie-down straps. Today we're gonna be using them for a kayak, but they're also gonna work great for paddle boards. Now when we are actually installing our kayak carrier, we noticed that the factory tie-downs are kinda irritating to work with. It's hard to retie the same knot every time, and it is a pretty complicated knot, so switching to this cam buckle strap is gonna be a great upgrade. It is gonna use a cam buckle, so it's gonna be really easy to work with every day.
It's gonna be super easy just to get that kayak on and off. It's gonna work similarly to a ratchet strap, but you just pull it tight and you're good to go. And one nice feature is there is a nylon coating around the outside of our strap, that way if it does happen to make contact with your car it's not gonna scratch anything. And our straps also come with this really nice pad to help protect your paint as well. Cause a lot of times, as yer goin down the highway, these are gonna, kind of, flop around a little bit, so you don't want any scratches or any contact between the strap and your vehicle.
And something that I really like about this kit is we are gonna get this hook and loop to tie down any of our extra tie-down, that way it's not floppin around on the back of our vehicle. It's just gonna give it a nice finished look. Loosening our strap is gonna be super easy. We're just gonna push on our button, here, and kind of work that off, relieving that tension. And we can just pull our strap through our cam buckle and we can reach down to our T-bone end and pull this out as well.
Now we can just grab this off of our kayak. This is gonna make life a whole lot easier than just using the rope that came with it. And the T-bones pretty solid mounted in here, as you can see, but whenever you need to take it out simply open up your trunk and you can just grab your T-bone and store this in the back of your vehicle. My favorite part about this kit is, actually, gonna be the T-bone. It has this really nice foam material to protect anything that it might touch in your vehicle, whether that be inside, or up in the hood when we're using two for a kayak.
So a lot of your straps are gonna mount to your hitch, but if you don't have a hitch installed your only option, really, is gonna be that T-bone. So this is definitely the kit I would go with. And a lot of kits do require a front tie-down point, and most newer vehicles aren't gonna have those so that T-bone is also gonna be essential for the front mount. Our strap is gonna be just over 14 foot long, so it's gonna work really well with any application you might have. Our strap is gonna be made out of a durable polyester webbing so, as you can see, it's nice and strong, it's gonna hold up really well for a long time. And if you do have a cam buckle strap that you like, you can pick up one of these T-bones, here, at etrailer. And if you only wanted to pick up one for the front, this is what it's gonna look like installed. With that being said, I can walk you through how to get it installed now. To start our installation for our T-bone we wanna pop our hood. So we'll get our hood opened up. You wanna find a good spot to put this, and right down here next to our strut is gonna be a great spot, and we can just close our hood and that's gonna hang out real nice. Now we wanna grab our strap portion. We're gonna get this side opened up. This is gonna get fed through our strap here. We'll just pull that through and you want it close to the equal amount on each side, down here, and we can just take this, feed it through our T-bone end, pull that tight. You might have to pull some slack out of it, like so, so we can get our cam buckle in the middle. Now we wanna take our loose end, we're gonna push down on our cam buckle button, and we're gonna feed this end through the opening, just like that. Then we can pull it tight. With our loose end, we'll just take it and, kinda, roll it into a nice stack, and then we can use our hook and loop to secure it down so it's not floppin around when we're goin down the highway. I'm actually gonna tuck this behind, that way our T-straps can get snugged down together as well. And we did pick up another one, that way we can use it with our kayak. You're gonna just put the T-bone right inside of your door. You wanna make sure that it's not on your door latch and you don't want to forget to add your cam buckle straps to, actually, secure your kayak to your carrier. With that being said, that's gonna do it for our look at the Rhino Rack tie-down straps..

This tie-down strap secures a paddleboard, SUP, or other long load that doesn't have a built-in tie-down point. Included anchor fits under the hood or hatch of your vehicle to provide a temporary tie-down point. Includes 1 strap and 1 anchor.I purchased a roof rack for a 2017 cayenne, to carry paddle boards. I have been very pleased with the roof rack. I have now used it many times. Easy to take the rack on and off of the car. I would highly recommend!
Really happy with my purchase. The only thing was that the product got back ordered and it took a while to get. Otherwise, good product.
