  • Provides either drop or rise for adequate ground clearance
  • Constructed of sturdy steel
    • Solid shank for suprerior strength and durability
  • Resists rust and corrosion with black powder coat finish
  • Hitch pin and clip or hitch lock sold separately
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: 2" x 2" trailer hitch receivers
  • Drop/rise: 4"
  • Receiver: 2" x 2"
  • Tongue weight: 400 lbs
  • Gross towing weight: 10,000 lbs
  • Length: 14-5/8" overall
    • 9-5/8" From center of hitch pin hole to center of hitch pin hole
    • 4-1/2" From center of hitch pin hole to angled bracket
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Needed a 4” riser to get my motorcycle carrier to have some ground clearance on our motor home. This worked perfect for my needs

by:

The hitch adapter was exactly as described and is going to work perfectly. Ordering on the website was easy and shipping was as promised. I didn't really consider the extension aspect, but that will also work well for me. I know I don't have my safety cables hooked up correctly in the photo (they should cross under the hitch) but I was just trying it on for size.

by:

Definitely good quality products and superfast deliveries. This is one company that really cares about the customers. I would recommend etrailer to everyone. I've got my 2017 Tacoma all ready to plow thanks to etrailer.
Thank You to all the people who work for etrailer...... Great job!

by:

Great product for price. The u bolt system seems to b perfect as it took all slack out of receiver and drop hitch. The staff at e trailer go beyond expectations for customer service and provides excellent information on needed products. My complete tow pkg came from etrailer. I have bought from them in past and probably won't waste my time shopping for better price as these people are the "bomb". Hope this product works well as I just intstalled and will report after next trip. Luv etrailer. (:

by:

I am sorry to have to give this low rating, but the only way the holes line up if the receiver hitch adapter is in the Rise position. We need it in the Drop position. I’ll call you tomorrow.

by:

Fast shipping and exactly what I needed for towing F-150 with Etrailer recommendeded Roadmaster Blackhawk2 towing setup. Feel much better with Roadmaster 10k rating (matching the towbar) rather than lower rated locally available adapters.

by:

I needed a 4" rise to get a level tow with my Blue Ox tow bars.
This works perfectly.

by:

Everything installed without any issues. I'm very particular so it took 2 days to complete everything. I'm sure a pro could do it much faster. Have towed the 4" lifted (and loaded) Jeep accross the Rockies about 6 times and everything is working perfectly!! Very happy camper!!

by:

The people at etrailer are great I received my product before promised and was as described. All of the videos and information on their website helped me set my toad and motorhome for flat towing. Great job!

by:

I had bent one leg of the towbar. I called Roadmaster to understand why for a second time. They explained that I was out of tolerance level. I was about to order when they reflected that etrailer would sell it cheaper and get it to me faster. Etrailer knew exactly what I wanted and did sell it less expensive and got it to me within a couple of days. They also had the correct hitch extension and height adjustment that I needed to correct the root cause. 20000 miles and no reoccurance. No impact to my Motor Home trip.

by:

that hole in the solid bar is too far to the back by 4-6". i'm going to a metal fabricator tomorrow to see if he can drill it where it should be. as is, the receiver opening will be extended way to far out from the truck hitch.

Tommy,Thank you for your review. We do have high low adapters that measure shorter center of hitch pin hole to center of hitch pin hole. The high low adapter you purchased part RM-048-4 measures 9-5/8. I am assuming you need a 4 inch rise to be level. Part # BX88129
Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 4" Rise/Drop - 6-1/2" Long
$72.08
by Blue Ox is 6-1/2 pin hole to pin hole. This part allows for up to 500 lbs in tongue weight. I have looked at the other options and this is the shortest measurement on a high low adapter with the rise and capacity you need. We do not recommend drilling a hole in the part because it can negatively affect the structural integrity of the part, causing safety issues in the future. I have attached a link for the blue ox part below.

I took your advice and didnt drill the hitch, so nothing has changed in my review.

by:

very well made.

by:

Great service. However, I would have rather had a lower capacity adapter. Paid twice as much as I wanted. But none are available and I was in a pinch. However, the service was fantastic!

by:

Good quality and arrived ahead of schedule. Very professional company, highly recommend for all your towing needs.

by:

Although I haven't used yet, (will in 2 wks), the hitch extension appears to be well made.
etrailer provided superb service and this heavy product arrived in good shape, no damage to the carton or the hitch.

by:

Solid shank is awesome

by:

Super heavy duty!
I ordered it because
it had all of the ratings and requirements needed, and more. This adapter is rated for 10,000 lbs. But I bet it would with stand triple. it is SOLID 2" x 2" steel, not just square tubing.
Really pleased!

by:

Very heavy duty and well built.

by:

The product arrived two days after I ordered it. I ordered an additional hitch pin and an anti-rattle clamp to go with it, and they were both there too. Everything fit, and worked just as advertised. No real surprises there, but always good when even simple things work out as they should. My main reason for writing a review is to draw attention to the number of folks that I see cruising the highways without a hitch drop like this to align their tow bar setup properly. This part wasn't expensive or difficult to find or install. Kudos to etrailer for making it easy.

by:

I have been setting up my 2017 Fiat for towing with my mhome. All parts were on time and worked perfectly. Greg & Reesa was very helpful and knew exactly what I would need to get the job done. Etrailer has my business from now on . The patriot 2 brake system works excellent and that was my biggest concern. Glad I called on etrailer and will again in the future, they have it going on!

by:

Very solid product. etrailer.com is a great resource for informative and installation videos. Have used many of their videos to assist in installing other products purchased from them.

by:

It's a four-star product maybe even 5 haven't used it yet so I can't give it a full 5 but it looks well built and should be no problem at all with the handle my vehicle appreciate your help and your service and Tammy you did an excellent job thank you very much much

by:

Well made, a little longer than the Blue Ox 4" rise / drop. Just what I needed to clear my Motorhome bumper and line up my tow bar to use with a lifted Jeep. Thanks

by:

First of all, the package arrived a day early, which was a real pleasant surprise. I installed this right away and in the "rise" position, this solved my ground clearance issue immediately. I would recommend this product to anyone in need of a well made hitch adapter...

by:

It was exactly what i needed. Made stronger (10000 lbs). Most that I had found were only 5000 lbs and priced about the same price.
Thanks for your good service
I will certainly call when I need something else.
Thanks,
Earl

  • Finding the Correct Ball Mount to Tow a 64 Mallard Camper Trailer Level with 2004 Chevy Trailblazer
It sounds like you just need a properly sized ball mount to tow the camper with your 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. Another possible option is to use an adjustable tow bar. That way you can adjust one ball mount for use on 2 vehicles. I have included a link to the adjustable ball mounts we carry and a link to an FAQ article that explains how to measure for the correct rise or drop needed to tow a trailer level. The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, # RM-048-4, is for tow bar use only (when...

  • Recommended Rise/Drop Adapter for Flat Towing with Between 2-4" Rise
I may have a solution for you, and it generally sounds like you're in need of a high/low adapter like the Roadmaster # RM-048-4, which has 4" rise and a 10000-lbs capacity that would work well for this application. However, you mentioned wanting to have a dual hitch to allow you to mount something below the top receiver and unfortunately using the top receiver for the tow bar is not going to allow the bottom receiver to be used. Using a dual hitch receiver requires you to use the bottom...

Using any type of hitch adapter is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50%. This means that if the trailer hitch on your 2014 Ford Explorer has a tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds, this will be reduced to 250 pounds when using the adapter. You mentioned in your question that you have a Class II trailer hitch on your Ford Explorer. I recommend verifying this as typically this vehicle will have a Class III receiver installed. Just looking at your picture I can't see how this wouldn't work but it never hurts to measure to be sure.

The best option we have for you is the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter part # RM-048-4 which is designed for flat-towing but can be used for hitch-mounted accessories like your motorcycle carrier. However, as you mentioned you will sacrifice some of the tongue weight capacity when using this or any adapter for that matter. I wish we had that ability to do that with the removable arms from Roadmaster but they don't have rise arm setups. The closest to 5 inches that we have is the 4 inch adapter # RM-048-4 which would fit well.

  • How to Choose the Correct High-Low Adapter for Flat Towing
It sounds to me like you are referring to a high-low adapter. A high-low adapter will attach to the RV's trailer hitch receiver and lower/raise the height at which the tow bar connects to the RV. Generally speaking, in order to find the correct high-low adapter you will first need to measure from the ground up to the center of the trailer hitch receiver opening and then from the ground up to the center of the base plate kit. The high/low adapter you would need would be Roadmaster # RM-048-4, but it's important to keep in mind that using this adapter with a cargo carrier will reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent. If the 400lbs. max weight is the tongue weight of the trailer hitch then it would be reduced to 200lbs. and if you plan to carry 400 lbs. you will need to be sure that your hitch has an 800 lb tongue weight capacity.
