Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

I installed a TorkLift Eco Hitch on the front of my F250. It sits higher than most front hitches. I need this drop receiver to lower my motorcycle below my line of sight! VERY heavy duty!

by:

works great, it is the right drop for the toad car so it pulls level. I have seen some toads being pulled and the hitch receiver is to high so the front of the car is being pulled at an upward angle, which is not a good idea.

by:

The 6" drop hitch was just what I needed to level my tow bar between my (Georgetown) RV and (Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara) towed vehicle.

It is a very strong, solid piece. Just completed a round trip between 700 mile round-trip with no problems.

The run-through of the unit dimensions in your video really helped to ensure the unit was the right fit for my RV receiver and tow bar.

Comments
Solid chunk of metal. No problems. Need to keep areas that rub treated for rust, but thats expected.

by:

Very Stout! Comes powder coated and is on the back of my camping trailer as we speak definitely worth the cost I would recommend it again to anybody

by:

Worked great to level the tow bar out between our lifted Jeep and the RV. Very stout and glad we went with heavier duty unit

by:

My motorhome was to high to tow my Jeep so I needed this hitch adapter to bring the tow bar inline with my vehicle.

Comments
I sold my vehicle and purchased a new jeep and no longer utilize the adapter. I purchased a new roadmaster tow bracket from u and so far its fine.

You guys have the best products and a great selection... thanks.

by:

The product works as described. There is one problem in compatibility with a Blue Ox tow bar. The pin holes in the receiver are pressed rather than drilled. This process decreases the inner receptacle size and it has to be increased by manually filing the inside of the tow bar receiver. Structurally well made.

by:

This high-low hutch adapter was exactly what I needed for The proper height to tow my dinghy/car. Very well-made & no worries about being able to handle the weight. My tow vehicle is a 2017 Ford F150.

by:

Heavy wall tubing, solid bar stock, and high quality welds. What more do you need ?

by:

great product, fast shipping and great service!!

by:

Christian was a huge help in identifying and facilitating the purchase of my hi-lo hitch adapter.
Thank you

by:

I bought this drop hitch because I carry a motorcycle sideways on a rack behind my SUV. The SUV sits high so pushing the motorcycle up the ramp is difficult and lowering that rack makes loading and unloading easier and safer. The SUV also has the spare tire on the rear door and this drop hitch moves the rack out about two inches giving me more room for the bike. The big thing about this drop hitch is it’s strength. My bike weighs 350 pounds this hitch is rated at 400 pounds but it can probably handle much more than the class III hitch itself.

by:

I recently purchased the 6" hitch extension from e-trailer... which fit perfect thanks to the wonderful help I received from Debora H. Without her help and all the time she spent with me on the phone I would have purchased the wrong one...again. I appreciate all her help, she saved me from another frustrating purchase and return. The hitch extension she recommended fit perfect for my application and was less expensive than the one I was originally looking at. Thank you again for your help.

by:

Received the product in excellent time. It is just what we needed and were very pleased that we could get the drop hitch made by Roadmaster as it will match the tow bar that we have on out motorhome and tow vehicle.

by:

I needed this high/low hitch receiver to bring the hitch up to level to pull my jeep behind my RV. It works excellent, very happy with it one year later!

by:

Purchased for bike rack , I am handicapped and this adapter will lower it and make it easier to load my three wheeled bike This company is awesome to deal with Thank You

Comments
Please keep in mind that using this or any hitch adapter or extender will lower the towing and tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half.

Just what you need if your 4 wheel drive pickup is too high. I use it to get my wheel chair ramp close enough to the ground to use.
Very well made.

Comments
Excellent, I use it for everything because my Dodge Rams receiver is 30 off the ground

I had a hitch place on my 2008 Toyota Sienna. The only problem is I would have to make major adjustment to hook up my daughter wheel chair lift. Uhaul told me to search online for a high low hitch. Thank God it lead me to etrailer which had several differ kind. The pack arrive quickly and the product is outstanding. This save me at least $2000.00 worth of work. Thanks etrailer, you are the best with the lowest prices as well.

by:

I ordered and received a power lift for my handicap four wheel scooter that I had told the lady it was to going to used on a recent model 2 wheel drive Ford Expedition. It was promptly shipped and when I mounted it I found the ramp would not touch the ground, there I spoke with a person a etrailer and they promptly shipped me the part I needed in order to correct the issue! They were excellent, in understanding the problem, and in two days sent the exact part I was in need of so our vacation to the beach will be a lot easier! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! I would highly recommend them!

by:

Well built, solid construction. Exactly what I needed to lower my hitch height without having to worry about strength or durability. Thanks etrailer for your fast delivery.

by:

Product as decribed.
Shipping was super
fast!!
Love the tracking info.
Will definately do business with etrailer again. You can take that to the bank.

by:

I really like my droped receiver, now wee its time to go camping!

by:

Everything I have bought from etrailer has been of the highest quality and they have the fastest shipping I have received. I had to raise my hitch to keep my tow bar level while towing my Ram 2500 behind my motorhome
The videos on “how to” are super.
Thanks again

by:

Not what I expected. Product is over designed and much, much to HEAVY. Also the horizontal pin to pin dimension is 10 inches, much to long compared to the blue ox unit at 71/2 inches. However that was my mistake in not ordering the more expensive blue ox unit. I should have sought technical help before placing an order.

  • Should a Tow Bar Sit Level Between the Towed Vehicle and the RV When Ready to Tow
Having your tow bar as level as possible is the best way to have it set up. Because of that you would want the 6 inch drop adapter. I have spoken to tow bar manufacturers and they say one of the key factors in how long a tow bar will last is how close to being level it was used. We recommend that the entire set up be no more than 3 inches above or below level. The 6 inch Roadmaster adapter # RM-048-6 will work well for you.

  • Using Roadmaster # RM-048-6 High-Low Adapter as a Winch Mount
In the past, Roadmaster did NOT recommend using the High-Low adapters for anything other than flat towing a vehicle, as they had never tested it for such a purpose. They're now saying the adapter can be used on hitch accessories, as long as its 400 lb tongue weight and 10,000 lb towing capacity isn't exceeded. This means that no more than 400 lbs of downward force can be applied to the adapter. Because the line pull of a winch isn't always applied straight-on to the receiver, I wouldn't...

  • Using Roadmaster # RM-048-6 High Low Adapter With a Winch
According to the folks at Roadmaster, the High-Low adapter you referenced, part # RM-048-6 could be used for the purpose you describe as long as its 10,000 straight pull and 400 lb tongue weight (max downward force that can safely be applied) capacities aren't exceeded. However, when winching, you're rarely going to have the load applied in a straight line to the receiver. For this reason, I don't recommend using a high-low adapter with a winch. If you could reply with the year, make and...

  • How to Pick Out the Correct Rise Ball Mount to Tow a Tall Trailer
You just need to select the correct rise ball mount for you setup. To do this you only need to measure from the bottom of your trailer's coupler to the ground when the trailer is sitting level and then from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground. Whatever the difference is between these two dimensions is the ball mount you need. I attached an FAQ on how to pick out ball mounts for you to check out as well. • Can the Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, # RM-048-6 be Used to Tow a Trailer
You are correct. The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, # RM-048-6, is rated to be used with tow bars for flat towing behind a motor home and not for weight carrying applications or trailer towing. The use of any adapter, including this one, will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. Since tow bars and flat towing physically function differently than towing a trailer or carrying a bike rack, the Roadmaster High-Low was not designed for the latter application. If...

I checked with my contact at Roadmaster, and the High-Low hitch adapter # RM-048-6 measures approximately 5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the angle bracket, which would be the first point that would risk coming in contact with a bumper or other structure. The adapter measures 10.38 inches from the center of the pin hole on the shank to the center of the pin hole on the 2 inch receiver.

  • High - Low Adapter for a 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Opening
No, I am sorry, but this will not work. First, the RM-048-6 is for towing a vehicle behind a motor home. Every time you add either an adapter or an extender, you reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent. You would need to add both, and with a Class I hitch, the weight of the bike rack, adapter, and extender would be too much for the vehicle. We do offer some great bike racks which are made to attach directly to the vehicle. We also have some 2 bike racks which will fit your 1 1/4 inch...

You can use a Hi-Low Hitch to level the RV hitch to the tow bar. These hitches have a solid-steel shank, allowing a 10,000-pound capacity and 400-pound tongue weight. I do not have a dimensional drawing at this time but I did go out to our warehouse and measure the part for you and from the center of the receiver pin hole to the center of the adapter pin hole is 12 inches. • Solution for Blue Ox Tow Bar Hitting Pavement on Steep Driveways and Road Dips
There isn't a wheel or similar product available that is designed to mount to a tow bar like what you have. Your best option to prevent the tow bar from bottoming out is to simply see if a different high-low adapter like # RM-048-6 might give you a tad more rise while still remaining in the "Safe Zone" for the tow bar. • What is Best High Low Adapter to Use When Tow Bar Setup Calls for 7 inches of Drop
Based on your dimensions you'd need 7 inches for your tow bar to be totally level. So since there's only a 6 inch and an 8 inch high low adapter the better choice is to have the sitting slightly higher on the RV side. If a tow bar pulling down on the vehicle front suspension it can cause tire wear issues as well as suspension issues so slightly higher on the RV side is best. So the 6 inch # RM-048-6 is the best option.

When using a high-low adapter like # RM-048-6 with a cargo carrier, the hitch receiver tongue weight only is cut in half (reduced by 50%). For instance if your hitch is rated for 350 lbs tongue weight, then you would reduce that to 175 lbs and also subtract the weight of your cargo carrier.
