Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Had to put on Motorhome because Jeep was 4" higher and roadmaster recommends tow bar to be within 3" high or low. Had to extend safety cables

by:

This is just what I need to flat tow our Jeep. Very good product.

by:

disappointed that I paid this much for a hunk of metal and it didn't include a hitch pin.

We do have hitch pins available. I recommend hitch pin part # C21510

or for added security lock part # e98881

The locking pins keyed alike while be convenient! The 2" drop/rise adapter according to the label stuck to it says it is only rated for 100lb tongue wt, but your item description says 200lb tongue wt??.

Comments
Roadmaster has recently completed further testing that has found that the TW capacity of the RM-072-2 is 200 lbs. Going forward, they will be stickered with the new capacity, but the older examples are safe to use with up to 200 lbs of tongue weight.

Just received, but looks like it will be perfect for dropping my RV hitch height 2" to match up with the baseplate on my Jeep Wrangler. Ordered on Sunday and here by mid-day Wed with regular shipping. Hard to beat that! 4th time I've ordered from Etrailer and very happy with the fast service, great pricing, and excellent descriptions that they provide online.

Great! Does just what it needs to do.

by:

Perfect. Now my hitch is out from under the bumper and easier on my old back when hooking up.
Thank you.

by:

Excellent quality! Works great!

by:

Excellent!! Just what I needed. An extension to lower my Thule bike rack to allow my back jeep door to swing open.
Locks to jeep, secure couldn’t ask for a better solution.

by:

Placed order with Road Master for this Road Master High-Low Drop and they notified me it would be two to four weeks. Canceled order with Road Master and ordered from etrailer. Ordered on Monday and received on Thursday. The two inch rise and ten inch extension was exactly what I needed to pull my CRV behind my B-Plus RV. Needed to raise tow bar two inches to have the three inches minimum height difference and the ten inch extension was needed to clear bicycle rack. Actually called etrailer B4 ordering and talked with a very nice and courteous lady. Thanks etrailer, you made my day.

by:

5 stars all the way. Installation instructions were very good. Everything worked out perfectly and I am very happy with the entire unit. I also appreciate that Steve at etrailer was always available to answer any questions I had.

by:

The offset is a bit longer than I expected. But after I installed it I was able to still use my safety cables and wire harness. The offset I believe will help a lot with handling while pulling my Jeep behind the motor home.

by:

Old 4" drop hitch was too much for the right fit with our new car. Not everyone carries the 2" drop hitch. We're close to etrailer's supply center and the order was delivered the day after I placed it. Great service and the fit with the towbar was just right!

by:

This is my second order, and both times the delivery time was great. It was delivered at my door step and I didnt have to go driving around town looking for what I needed. Pricing has been excellent on the Items also. I have already setup the receiver and it was exactly what I needed.

Unit was ordered along with a Falcon All-Terrain tow bar. Both arrived 3 days before expected. Excellent quality at a reasonable price. Shipping service was great.

Overall, pleased with quality of the hitch and exceptional service.

Hitch is working just fine. Many thanks. Bud

This works perfectly for lowering the hitch height and increasing distance so that my buke rack can fold down and out of the way of my jeep's tailgate.

by:

I am using this to level out my Jayco Jay Feather travel trailer. It did not have enough clearance in back for me to back into my driveway. It does now.
Thanks

  • Pin Hole to Back of Receiver on Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter # RM-072-2
I went out to the warehouse and pulled Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter # RM-072-2 to measure it. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the receiver portion of it measures 6 inches. And on the other pin hole at the end to the back of the receiver is 4-1/4 inches. The main shank is solid and the receiver portion is open at the back.

  • Is A Hitch Extension Available For A Class III Hitch With A 2 Inch Rise
The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-072-2, is a hitch adapter that is used for tow bars only. It is not to be used with any type of trailer. It is used to level the tow bar with the vehicle being towed. This adapter fits a 2 inch receiver and will give a 2 inch rise or drop. The overall length of the hitch adapter is 14-3/4 inches and the measurement from hitch pin hole to hitch pin hole is 10-1/4 inches. I am including a link to the tow bar hitch adapters with a 2 inch rise. The...

  • Can High-Low Adapter be Used for Motorcycle Carrier
Although you technically can use the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-072-2 to mount an accessory like a motorcycle carrier, the use of ANY adapter will reduce the tongue weight of the hitch on your vehicle by 50 percent. So if your hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs the use of an adapter such as this would lower the capacity to 250 lbs and your bike and hauler would be too heavy. So essentially, unless you have a hitch with a tongue weight capacity of 800 lbs you would not...

The Roadmaster 2 Inch Rise/Drop Adapter, part # RM-072-2 and the Roadmaster 4 Inch Rise/Drop Adapter, part # RM-070 has a measurement of 10-1/4 inches between the center of both hitch pin holes. So if you measure on your hitch receiver from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the rear of the vehicle, the measurement listed above will give you an idea of how far out the adapters will be from your hitch receiver.

  • Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for Use with Roadmaster High-Low Adapter
Since the Roadmaster High Low Adapter part # RM-072-2 that you referenced has a solid shank the type of anti-rattle device you would need is one like the # RM-061 which clamps around the shank and the opening of the hitch. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well. You should also note that when you use a hitch adapter like the extender you referenced you end up cutting the tongue weight capacity of the hitch in half so you would need to be aware of that as well.

  • Compatibility of Spare Tire Carrier with Hi Low Adapter
I called Roadmaster, the tech informed me that they do not recommend these two items be used together, he also mentioned to me that it would be unsafe. One solution I came up with would be to put the spare tire carrier on the back of the towed vehicle. If you would like to provide me with a little more information about your towed vehicle, I would be more than happy to recommend a hitch setup for you.

  • Hitch Adapter with 2 Inches of Drop to Get a Cargo Carrier to Clear Spare Tire on a Jeep
You can use Roadmaster high/low adapter # RM-072-2 which offers a 2 inch drop. However, the use of this adapter (or any adapter) reduces the tongue weight capacity if the hitch by 50 percent. So for example if your hitch is rated for 350 pounds tongue weight it is reduced to 175 pounds when using an adapter. So the combined weight of your cargo carrier and the cargo cannot exceed the reduced capacity.

  • Can a Tow Bar be 3-1/2 Inches Out of Level when Flat Towing a 2012 Jeep Liberty
The problem is that the tow bar can only flex so much and if it is 1/2 inch out of the safe zone now then it will be out much more when on uneven terrain. You will want it to be as level as possible. To get a more level set up you can use a high/low adapter to compensate for the 3-1/2 inches of difference between the base plates and the hitch. We have a 4 inch option, # RM-048-4, that will get you closest to level. Or if you want to be in the safe zone you could use a 2 inch drop model...

Keep in mind this measurement is assuming your Canyon is equipped with the stock 265/60R18 size tires.
