Video Transcript for Roadmaster Flexo-Coil Kit Installation - 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Today on our 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install, the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit, part number RM-146-7. We're going to be using a 6-pole round that's going to offer a 6-pole plug, and then that flex coil is going to go to a 7-pole, which is going to plug in to the back of most RVs for us there. Pull the boot off and we want to slide it down our wire to start. Just tuck that back here for now. Figure out how much wire we're going to need and cut that off. I'm going to strip the ends of these back. Now, I'm going to pull that ground wire off the back of that 4-pole plug, I need to have a ground however, for the lighting system here.
Now, I'm going to twist the two grounds that I'm going to be using together. We'll start by making that connection behind our 6-pole. Top of the plug here, looking at the back, our ground is going to be this one in the top left corner there. Use a little Phillips screwdriver, or a little flat blade, thread it, and then it's just a matter of tightening the screw back down. If we come down one, that's going to be our left turn, one more is going to be our right turn. The one up here is going to be our trailer marker.
The yellow, that's going to be our left turn. Green is going to be our right turn, brown is our trailer marker lights or our running lights. At this point, I like to use a little bit of tape and just wrap this all up, and I'll do it all the way back to where it goes in to the vehicle itself, just to keep it a little bit more protected and also looking nice. That'll slide over, and then what we have are the two self-tapping screws that came with our face plate. If you face plate doesn't have the mounting tabs, here, to secure your items to, you can also use part number 18140, it's just a tow-ready short bracket. We'll go underneath there and get our ground connected, and we'll be ready to test it out.
Figure out where we want it. I'm going to start my hole first with my self-tapping screw. Once you've got your hole started, lay your ring terminal over the top of it and get it secured down. We'll start by testing out the signal that will act as our turn signal, and our brake signal. We've got our running lights there. Look at that, right turn signal, got left turn signal.
Check the brakes, all right, perfect. Now with everything working properly, that completes our installation of the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit, part number RM-146-7, on our 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

This is my second set of this kit. Setting up another TOAD. Very easy to install. Nice screw terminals with big enough holes for appropriate cable gauges. Everything you need is included. Even nuts/bolts.
Yes, I could have just ordered the receptacle for my second TOAD, but having a second cable as a spare is not such a bad idea ;)

The 7 to 6 coiled cable from etrailer.com came the next day and is exactly as described. After having ordered the same item from another professional online hitch-seller in Texas, paying for the item, and waiting 3 weeks without even a thank you for your order or status of the order, I finally had to call and leave a voicemail, then call back the next day to find out the order might ship on Friday. This plug has not failed me yet, it was exactly the plug I needed to operate the towed vehicle brakes and additional line for battery charge while towing. Works great! Can't beat etrailer fast delivery. Had to change receiver female socket on RV to position above hitch bar as kept bending on driveway. Nothing to do with this product though.

If you're pulling a toad vehicle this cable has the 12v power going to the proper pin for charging your toad battery (some don't). It is well constructed and should last for years. I added a little silicon sealer to the ends where the cable meets the connector to assure water won't get in.

The coiled cord is a much better product than the straight cable supplied with my tow bar assembly. This allows for a straight run from the RV to the towed vehicle. The original had to be routed through channels and when being moved could easily pull the wires out of the connection.

The wire connector looks good so far (just got it). This is a replacement for another connector that I broke. I'm buying Roadmaster because I have had such good quality and service from them on other parts. I'm sticking with Roadmaster.

Received the product in a timely manor and installed it. Every time I hooked the toad all the lights worked the proper way. I only towed with the Motorhome on several trips and I am looking forward to another traveling season.

I replaced the 4 pin connector with this 6 pin connector so I could hook up a battery tender for my toad. It arrived when promised and was easy to install after a quick chat with the tech support team at e-trailer. Based on reviews I've read, I should be in good shape for my trip from NH go FL this winter

- Durability and Compatibility of Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil KitRoadmaster over-builds their products and we have not heard of any issues with coiled extension kit # RM-146-7 so I believe that you will like it and that it will last a good long while. The 6-Way connector in the kit will fit Blue Ox base plates. If it is a snug fit or off just a little you can get a deep well socket to gently bend the posts on the base plate.
