Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening
The Tow Defender's heavy-duty nylon screen deflects rocks, gravel, and road debris down and away, protecting your towed car's finish against chips and dings. The nylon mesh lets air through, keeping it low and over the road. Fully extended, the Tow Defender measures 40" x 72" and is held in place with adjustable, shock absorbing steel struts. Adjust the tension to fit your towing system by simply sliding the strut mounts up or down the tow bar stinger.
Note: The Tow Defender fabric may become warped or otherwise damaged if exhaust is in close proximity to the fabric and cannot be redirected.

The Tow Defender's heavy-duty nylon screen deflects rocks, gravel, and road debris down and away, protecting your towed car's finish against chips and dings. The nylon mesh lets air through, keeping it low and over the road.A little modifications were required to fit it in between the RV and the Jeep. The Winnebago Forza receiver hitch was recessed in close to the back cap, so I had to extend the tow bar out and use the pin hole near the end. Moved the flexible arms to the inside pockets of the defender. That tightened the fabric up just enough. Will have to fold the original pocket around and stitch it up to the underside to keep it off the rear cap, and exhaust pipe elbow.
Just installed. Installation video was much better than the Roadmaster directions. Seems like it should greatly reduce debris on the front of my towed vehicle. Had to drill new holes in the rear arm per the instructions due to the wider spacing on my F150 tow brackets.
Product arrived quickly. It was well constructed. Watched the etrailer video and read through the instructions and started to install. The 2 3/8 by 1" bolts and nuts were missing otherwise I would have given it a 5 rating. Luckily I only live 1 mile from the hardware store so I went ahead and got 4 because they were only 35 cents each. Rest of installation went great and test drive was good looks like it should do the job. Ready for the trip and will follow up on performance.
Over the past few years, I've ordered several items from etrailer. The purchasing process was very easy and timely. They're instructions and videos for installation are spot on! I will continue to buy from etrailer for my motorhome and towing needs,. I needed to customize the screen, simple drilled two new holes for my blue ox brakets.
The fabric is too short for my application. I had rig up some bungee cords to make it fit. My tow vehicle is a Dodge Ram truck. It fits now, but took a lot of effort to make it fit.
We spent 3 months traveling and sightseeing across country towing our brand new 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we got only weeks before we left. After our travels, our Jeep still has no dings or chips and still looks brand new even with almost 10,000 miles on it.
It is simple to install and connect along with keeping stowed on the hitch even when not towing.
I will not tow a vehicle without the Tow Defender to protect the towed vehicle. The Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening does a great job and is easy to install.
The product works well and is constructed well. I gave it 4 stars because it mentions about being to close to the exhaust and causing damage to the fabric but doesn't talk about other possible concerns. I have a Tiffin 2018 Allegro Red motorhome. My ladder on the back of my motorhome interfered with proper operation of this part. My solution ending up being to cut off the lower section of my ladder. I have attached pictures so hopefully someone can see this as an issue before purchasing.
I purchased the Defender to protect our new Equinox during our trip to Alaska. I wasn't sure how it would hold up to all the gravel roads and construction typical of Alaska roads. I was extremely satisfied with its performance and ease of how quickly it attaches to the toad. We now use it everytime we tow.
I did have to modify the ladder on the motorhome because the lower loop rung hung below the level plane of the defender. It was an easy modification and worth the tradeoff for the Tow Defender.
Actually I haven’t pulled with it yet , but have set it up backwards since our rig is in a park and couldn’t pull it out. I’ll make final adjustments when we head out in a week.
Overall I’m happy with everything every bit of protection helps
I haven't installed yet, planning on installing this month. I rated it excellent as it is well constructed, instructions are precise and should do the trick.
Had to drill new holes to get it to line up to the towed mounting bracket otherwise install was easy. Once you get your method down on/off is a breeze. It must be working, no stone chips on the Jeep since I started using it and the bottom always has road grime on it. Would be nice if the straps for rolling it up when not in use were attached somehow (one less thing I have to keep track of). it would also be nice if there was some kind of loop sewed in mid point to clip the electric and air brake lines to.
The product works as promised. No complaints with the product. My only complaint is that the directions are not clear. The directions are overly wordy and the pictures are small ad zoomed in. I ended up using the picture that showed the entire Tow Defender to help me figure out installation. It seemed that some steps were missed, like attaching the screen to the bars. Some of the confusion may be because the Tow Defender can be installed on different tow bars and different RVs. Better picture would be helpful.
Easy to install. High quality poly net. Mine worked great from coastal Georgia to Pikes peak. You will still have to deal with the road dust but road debris was not a problem. This is a good high quality product.
Installed it on our 2019 Chevy Equinox on the back of our 2004 Itasca Meridian and everything fit as it should, easy to assemble, I will need to install an 8 inch extension to my receiver hitch to provide clearance for the exhaust pipe, looks good confident it will keep debris off of our new car. Thank you for the great service and great products.
Quality product, easy install, preforms as advertised. Highly recommend.
Fast delivery, well built but hard to find on etrailer website. Tow Defender does not, in my opinion, describe what I would call a rock/stone guard.
I have not installed the Tow Defender because it would not fit my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee as advertised. Buried in the fine print is the requirement to buy an extension for my RV to keep the cloth from being too long, but also to measure and drill new holes in the toad mounting bar to match the lugs on my Blue Ox equipment. I would love to return it as it was never used, but Roadmaster won't take it back.
We have towed our 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee over 15K miles behind our Class A motorhome in the past year. I'm happy to say that the tow defender did it's job well. Can't find a single rock chip on the jeep.
I have not installed it yet.
Good product. No windshield chips or cracks since we started using it. Does get dirty so wear gloves when handling it. Was dumbfounded that Blue Ox tow bar with a Jeep Wrangler, perhaps the most common combo, required drilling. Roadmaster support was unaware too.
I placed a big order with etrailer to flat tow my Jeep. The Roadmaster tow bar was back ordered but was in transit. etrailer notified me of the possible delay and monitored the parts and was able to ship my complete order within my deadline. I always buy from etrailer due to the great service, follow up support and installation videos and instructions and they keep me informed. Thanks
I wrongly ordered the RM-4700 model and had to exchange it for the RM-4750. Michelle at etrailer was excellent in providing a return authorization and reorder of the correct RM-4750 model. I received a full refund minus only $21.00 for return shipping which is certainly more than reasonable since this was my mistake. New product arrived promptly, but I was missing two 3/8"x1" bolts that were supposed to be included. Obviously, this was a mistake on the manufacturer's part not etrailer. Fortunately, I have a good selection of bolts and hardware and I had the exact type of bolts needed. Product has been installed and seems to be working as promised.
Have driven over 5,000 miles without a mark on the toad. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Product seems to be as advertised. Hoping it will protect my toad. Etrailer has always been a great company to deal with.
