Hey everybody. Rob [email protected]. And today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster 60 inch coiled safety cables with a single hook. Now to help us with our installation, we're also going to be using the Roadmaster eight inch safety cable extensions with a quick disconnect on. And whenever you're towing, your CRV is very important to have safety cables, not only to make sure that we're being nice and safe, but also to be within the law. We don't want to get a ticket and we also don't want to do anything unsafe.
Because our safety cables are going to be our last line of defense in case a catastrophic disconnect we're to happen with our tow bar. Now I really like the coil design because when we need the length that cable can stretch but when we don't, it's now retracted in a nice little package and keep that cable from dragging on the ground, causing any damage. Each one of our cables are going to be made out of an aircraft type galvanized steel. It's going to be high strength and low weight, so you can make it a lot easier to work with, but also very strong. They're also going to have a nice vinyl coating on them. So don't have to worry about scratching or chipping our tow bar.
On one end, we'll have a drop forged steel hook that is going to be spring loaded. So it's going to be easy to hook them up and unhook them. And they have a little bit more security and strength than the standard S hooks. Now our safety cables are going to be rated at 6,000 pounds for the pair. We're going to be right in line with our tow bar, as well as how much our CRV weighs.
You just want to double check your owner's manual to make sure that you are within that limit. So keep in mind, that's only going to be one component of a safe, complete flat tow setup. There's really five major components that every car is going to need. The first one is going to be the base plate. That's what's going to be the connection points that we can hook up to our motor home and use our tow bar. Now the next one is going to be your tow bar and that's, what's going to hook to the base plate and to your motor home.
So you can safely pull your car down the road. After that, we're going to need safety cables, which are going to be your secondary line of defense in case our tow bar fails. And there's an accidental disconnection. Next we're going to need wiring. Now there's going to be several different kinds of wiring, but I always suggest diodes if your car can use it, because then we don't have anything extra to set up and it's going to use the car's tail lights to get the signals. And finally, we're going to have our braking system. Now braking system is going to you're required in almost every state and for good reason, we're putting a lot of weight behind our motor home. And we're asking a lot when we slow down because not only does it need to slow itself down, but now we added a couple thousand pounds behind it. So braking system is going to allow our CRV to slow itself down. So we're not putting so much strain and stress on our motor home. That's specifically for our CRV I do recommend the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass because if you look in your owner's manual, you're going to be required to pull a fuse. And it's just a lot easier to hit a switch rather than having to pull the fuse thrown into the dash, put it in the cup holder, remember to put it back. It's just a lot easier flip a switch and you could be on your way.One last component that I do recommend is going to be the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay. And what that's going to do is that's going to prevent our CRV from overriding the turn signals that we're coming from our motor home. For going down the road, going down the highway when it change lanes but at the same time, we may need to slow down a little bit. If we hit our brakes on our motor home and have a supplemental braking system, our CRV, that brake signal is going to cut our blinker out and it'll go salad in the back, which means it's going to be really unsafe driving around. But that brake light relay will allow us to not have that happen. But when we're driving, normally our brake lights will work just fine. Now we've seen what our cables look like and gone over some of the features. Let's show you easy to hook everything up. So I like to do that. I like to take the spring loaded in with the hook. I'm going to attach that directly to my CG connection point on my base plate. We'll do the same thing on the other side with our other safety cable. Now we can take the other end of our cable. We'll start routing it towards our motor home. Now, once we get underneath the center section of our tow bar here or close to the motor home, I like to cross my cables over. So I'm going to go from the passenger side of my car, to the driver's side on my hitch, on the motor home. Then on the other end by our motor home loosen up the quick link and you can see, we do have enough room to reach and actually get it hooked on there. However, our tow bar is not extended to the full length right now. We're going to lose a little bit. Instead of having our safety cables so tight and stretched so far, I'm going to disconnect them here and we're going to be using some safety cable extensions. Now these are going to be the same kind of material and the vinyl coating on them. They're going to have a short eight inch extension with a quick link on it. I'll attach my quick link to my hitch, make sure to tighten the knob up.And then I can just attach my safety cables to the other end using the quick link that's on the end of the safety cable itself. Now that gives us plenty of slack so that we can reach everything and have everything hooked up. And we're not pulling so tight on the safety cables, but at the same time that coiled cable is going to keep it off the ground. So we'll go ahead and hook up the other side, the exact same way. And the main reason why we even needed these extensions to begin with is really because we have this high low adapter here, because if it was not here, our safety cables and everything would actually be moved a lot closer to the hitch. And you can see that our cables are almost the same length as the high low adapter. So it just makes it so we don't have to worry about getting longer cables or if we just need that just a little bit of extra room to reach our connection point. Now our safety cable extensions are going to have a lot of the same features as our regular safety cables, the vinyl coating around the steel cable and everything else. However, these are actually going to be rated higher than the safety cables. Our extensions are only rates at 8,000 pounds, which is a good thing, cause we can always go higher than the rating, but we never want to go lower than the reading of our cables, our tow bar, or any other component in our setup. With all that being said, I'm Rob [email protected] and that'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster 68 inch coiled safety cables, as well as the Roadmaster safety cable extensions on our 2013 Honda CRV.

Extend the length of your towing system without having to buy new safety cables. Extensions add an extra 8" so you can use high-low receivers, hitch adapters, and other accessories. Includes quick links for easy hook-up.Work well to extend the safety cables on my Roadmaster tow bar.
I purchased a new Motorhome which was 6 inches taller then my old one. I was able to use a 6inch high low drop hitch for my tow car, but the safety cables were too short. So I purchased the 8 inch extensions from etrailer. This saved the hassle of replacing my short ones for longer ones and saved the cost of replacing. Thank you etrailer !
After looking at several local stores, I finally found these. Nothing else had the weight rating I was looking for to pull my travel trailer. I have a 6" lift on my truck so most trailer chains won't reach any longer. These solved both problems! Great quality & work great! Highly recommended if your truck is lifted.
The cables worked great, it makes it easier to hook up my toad and with the drop hitch I needed a little extra length, Thank you
It is exactly what I wanted and looks to do the trick for extending my chains!
Thanks to etrailer for fast order proce ssing!
Thank you for the email. I do have a copy concern. The part i bought has an advertised breaking capability of 8000 lbs, but the quick links only have a 2200 lbs strength. What am i missing?
Just what I needed for my safety chains to reach hitch after replacing tow vehicle. Good quality, look stout. Easy fix.
Purchased the Swagman Traveler XCS Platform Style Rack bicycle rack mounted on a 15 ¾ “ Hidden Hitch ball mount. It allowed me to tow 2 bicycles mounted on the hitch and still tow our 15 ft. pop up camper. After a year on the road hauling the camper, I could not be happier. The Swagmen bike rack is superbly engineered and manufactured. The designers seemed to think of everything as far as usability and durability. I definitely recommend also using the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch Anti Rattle device. It provided positive clamping to eliminate tow bar movement within the hitch receiver. Also purchased the Roadmaster 8” Safety Cable Extensions which were needed to allow attachment of the safety chains which were not long enough to reach the hitch mounting once the longer ball mount was installed. Also praise to Kelsey W. at etrailer.com who assisted me by answering my questions and guiding me through the sale. All equipment arrived within the time promised and all in good shape.
The cable extension was perfect for my 5x8 cargo trailer chains when towing with a RAM 2500 (and now 3500). Had to use a ball mount with a 10" drop to get the trailer level, and this extension was just right for the extra length this required. The quick links were a little small for the chain attachment on the truck, so I replaced these with a larger clevis hook. Very satisfied with the quality of the parts.
Incredible customer service! Unsolicited direct contact from a customer service rep after my purchase to ensure that all things were good to go. I'll be back when I need more trailer parts!!

They work great. Put on a new actuator that lengthened the neck of my trailer. This made a quick fix without having to replace the safety chains.
Bought this to go with my extended trailer hitch
As my chain wasn’t long enough for slack when turning, works great
The product seems very durable and looks exactly as described. The most helpful part of the description was the exact size between the ends of the loops. It fit my towing assembly perfectly. I haven't used it yet, but this extension looks thicker than the safety cable I am trying to extend, so I have no worries about how it will perform.
Product description was accurate and website was very informative.
The 8" cable extensions are exactly as advertised and delivered. The Etrailer folks are great to deal with. Have bought other items from them in the past and will continue to purchase items in the future.
Great product, built very stout. Made up for the few inches I needed for my trailer to work with my new truck instead of a complete replacement. Shipped fast to, arrived earlier then expected.
Fast shipping. Perfect extension fit for my needs (added a 4 inch riser that extended out another 6 inches from the original).
Perfect for the newer Ford bumper hitch es.
Perfect solution to connecting my trailer to my Tesla Model X. Safety chains were not long enough but these did the trick.
Fit perfectly on my motorhome to allow my safety chains to reach.
Great customer service. Had the part I needed snd shipped it right out. I’ll be a repeat customer.
These extended my chain connections on my truck, making it much easier to connect for towing. All are high quality and have been in daily use. Look like new. I would buy them again.
Great website, easy to use, Great product description and VIDEOS. Cables are of good quality and were described accurately. Delivered in a timely manner and packaged well. AND customer follow up to see if everything went well. First Class Operation.
Great service. Exactly what I needed.
Just the right length. Great product

Thats a great question. The 2200 lb figure from the quick links refers to the Working Load Limit of the quick links, which applies when the gate or threaded portion of the link is open not fastened. When the gate is secured, the breaking strength is 5 times the 2200 lb working load limit, or 11000 lb. In this case, the cables are rated at 8000 lb so capacity of the system as a whole is 8000 lbs.
