Video Transcript for RockyMounts Fork Mount Bike Racks VanTrack Review

What's up everybody. It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're checking out the RockyMounts VanTrack. It's gonna be a track system, that you install on the floor of your van or your trailer like we did here. And it's gonna be able, now this version is the 60 inch version. So it's gonna be able to store, up to six bikes and they're angled,, so that's how they can stay outta each other's way.

And it's just a nice track system. You can slide the bike racks from RockyMounts, back and forth on these channels and kind of get this outta way, depending on what else you're throwing in here. So lets check it out. Take a close look at the track. I went ahead and loosened the bike rack.

Just to show you how it's gonna work when you have it loose. So you can help slide that out of the way or wherever you need it to be, depending on what else you put in your van or your trailer. You're gonna use all six bikes, you can move around and then definitely tighten it down, you can't leave it loose like this, but just wanted to show you how easy it was, to slide it back and forth, when you do need to do it. The bike racks are sold separately. So you can find those on our website.

RockyMounts offers a couple different versions, for your bikes. And if you don't quite need all the 60 inches of this one, then there is a 24 inch one. So if you don't want to carry quite six bikes, you don't need that, you need just a few. I would looking into that option as well. When it comes to install, make sure you get it exactly where you want it.

I would set the bar down, in your trailer or your van, to make sure nothing's in the way. Also remember you need space for handle bars. You see, they go in between our shelves here. Those are just things to think about, before you start drilling holes and you're have to drill five holes there. So make sure you get it right the first time. It also sticks up about an inch and a half from the ground. So wherever you put on the floor, just know that it is gonna stick up a little bit, you probably don't wanna put it in a high traffic area. We're walking in, like you wouldn't wanna put it, in front of the door here on the side or the back door. 'Cause you don't wanna be tripping on it, when you're getting in or out. So just some things to consider, before you get to the install, which isn't that bad. Just follow along with how I did it. First step we're gonna do is set in the VanTrack. Make sure we got it in the right position. It seems to be right where I want it here. I even looked underneath the trailer, make sure you do that too or your van make sure that there's no beams in the way, when you go to drill the five holes. 'Cause once we've got that lined up, that's the next step. So I got the five sixteenths drill bit, like it says in the instructions. I'm just gonna start drilling the holes out and then we'll add the hardware after that. Now they do say to remove both end caps, before you start drilling. So I've done that set them up here on the shelf and then I'll start drilling. Here continue that, down the track. Now, before we put the hardware in there, I loosely assembled our bike rack. This is where we're gonna attach our front skewer to. It's gonna slide that in the track, because we're have to put the end caps on and we add the hardware. So you can slide that on and now since it's loose, I can slide that wherever we want it, we'll tighten down we'll figure out what we want it, after this. But now I'll put the end caps on, our rubber end caps, the grippy side towards the bottom, lines up with the holes on top there. It's on both sides and now we can start dropping, our hardware through. So on each one of these, we're gonna drop one of the bolts with a washer, through our hole here. You see it falls all the way through the bottom, line up with our holes. Underneath our trailer, you can see where the bolt came through. Now, the bolts aren't very long, that is one complaint of mine. Now you might be putting yours in a van it might be different, but in our trailer it barely came through the plywood. So what I did was I put the nut on the other side, tightened it down before I added the washer, then backed the nut back off. And that brought the bolt back through, just a little bit more, so I could put the washer and nut on, like I was supposed to in the first place. If you get that, you see I can get those hand tight now. And I got an Allen wrench in the bolt up top. You might wanna get a second person. It might be easier to have somebody on the inside, holding that Allen wrench. So it holds it in place. You can tighten it down, down here, but we have a door access right here. So I can do this first one by myself. And then I'll get a friend for the rest of them. Tighten down our low ball, after we tighten down the rest of the hardware. So it's picked and it's spot on the track. We slid it back and forth, and this is gonna work fast for us, to get this one installed. Now we can put other ones if we had those, but this is what we got today. We got the bike in there and see how sturdy that is. It's not going anywhere, it's gonna stay in place, and now you can kind of shift this around, depending on what you else can put in your trailer. Overall, I like the VanTrack. It installed really easily. Didn't take me that long. I like that I can make it versatile so I can slide, it's not permanent mounts for the bikes, but now the bikes have somewhere to park them. 'Cause that's really important, when you're loading a trailer or your van, to make sure the bikes stay in place, and they have room for whatever else you're filling in here and have that option to be like, you know what, I'm putting something really big up here, I need the bike to move, but I still wanna take the bike. You can still slide along that track, out of the way and put that big thing here, that you want to put, or move it around wherever you need to be. It's just a nice way to help keep organized, in your trailer or your van. Well I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helps..
