no problems. a block under the "elbow" when fully extended helps stabilize.
twin hobie inflatable kayak just fits in trunk
slick appearance with lights, used as table often

I received the product and it looks fine so far (I have not assembled it). The problem was that there was an empty box within the larger box - perhaps it is supposed to be empty and serve as a spacer, but if that is the case it should be labeled "intentionally empty".

Also, there were no instructions. Ashley E. at etrailer helped me out with some instructions since there apparently a link on the Rola web site for consumers to download instructions or manuals.

I understand that this is not your fault but perhaps you should bring it up with Rola.

My project to use the swing-away hitch shelf came to a halt due to other circumstances. My friends and I have fabricated a shelf to which I plan to attach gas cans and bicycles. This all needs to get accomplished by mid-May. When we are done I will send you a picture and review. I will then hit the road to ID, UT, OR and that will be the real test!

This replaces a failed product. Don't know why it faied, just blaming it on some one sitting on it that weighed to much. I am replacing it because the whole unit is nice. Don't let the rubber seal fool you, mine isn't at all water tight.

Why Does Rola Cargo Swinging Arm 10421 Only Swing to the Right
It only swings to the right. And the reason for that is that if you were pulled over on the side of the highway the shoulder would be on the right. So if you needed to get to the rear hatch of your vehicle you wouldn't be forced to swing the hinge out into traffic.

Can the Rola Tilting Cargo Carrier 59110 Be Upgraded to a Swing Away Carrier
I have looked into this before and determined that the mounting brackets for the box of the cargo carrier that tilts are totally different than the brackets of the swing away carrier so what you are trying to do is unfortunately not possible. Your only option would be to go with the # 59109 and maybe try selling the tilting version 59110 that you have.

The shank of the Rola Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier part # 59109 is hollow so you could easily install an anti-rattle device that would stop the movement. The part # 63232 would be a great option too as it has a built in hitch lock. This will lock the rack to your hitch and will eliminate the movement in the hitch so I would recommend it for you.

Solution for Needing Additional Cargo Space Beyond Enclosed Cargo Carrier
We have carriers that can slide out for access to the rear cargo door of the vehicle like the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier # H00604 but we don't have any that can have cargo added to the top of the carrier. I think that is a really great idea though. Another option you might consider is a small enclosed trailer which will allow you more space for your larger items.
