Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Softride Soft Hook-and-Loop Tie Downs for Bike Racks

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a look at the soft ride hook and loop tie down straps. So, you can use these for several different purposes. If you want to use them for your bike tie down you can to keep your bike wheel safely secured to your bike rack so it's not moving around, or you can use it for a hanging style bike rack.A lot of times that wheel is just hanging and dangling there, and it kind of swings around in the wind, so you can lock that into place by putting this around the wheel and then around the frame or the down tube, or the cross tube of your bike to help hold that in place. That way it's not moving around and it makes it a little bit easier to prevent it from whacking into your vehicle. You can also use this to hold up a pant leg while you're biking, so if you happen to be wearing some jeans, or slacks, or something like that while you're riding your bike, maybe you commute to work, something like that. You can use these to cinch up that extra material and keep it from getting caught in the spokes or from getting caught in the gears, or your chain, and mucking up your pants. So, keeps that secure. Just a hook and loop strap, so we'll have the loop material here and then the little hooks that grab into that and hold it really strongly.

We'll also get some little reflector pieces, and these are going to have a hook material on the back of those, so you can attach them to the loop material and hold that in place. So, that just creates a highly reflective surface on the strap to make you more visible at night. Alert other vehicles, other drivers that you're there. And you get one of those little squares per strap. Now, this is available in a four pack or as just a single strap. It's going to still come with that little reflector, even if you get this as a single strap, so you can utilize that to keep you more visible at night. The total length from end to end of the strap is 16 inches, but four of those inches is going to be taken up by the hook material, so the actual usable part of the strap is going to be 12 inches long, or about a foot. So, from here on back that's 12 inches in length. The width is about an inch, thickness about a quarter of an inch, and there's no stretch to them.

Just holds securely with that strap. Each of these little squares is about seven eighths of an inch on each side. And that's about all there is to it for our hook and loop tie downs. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right piece for you.Again, can be used for a lot of different scenarios, a lot of different options, so hopefully it'll get you out and rolling again. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time.

It's amazing how handy these straps are. I stash them everywhere.. from the stroller to the golf cart to every car we have. They're great for tying down everything in the cargo area but really excel for securing things on roof racks from christmas trees and beach umbrellas to stand up paddle boards and kayaks.

by:

These worked out very well. I secured them to a custom made wood Trek Verve3 Ebike cradle with T25 star head screws on a washer. They hold to the rims nicely.

4 stars due to slower than expected delivery. Bicycle rack was identified as in stock with expected free delivery 5 days later. Ordered on a Sunday and free delivery was identified for Friday. Each day the delivery date moved out another day with no indication that it had even been picked and packaged. Emailed etrailer to find out why. Received a response stating that free shipping was subject to many factors and difficult to predict. Item was picked and packed within a day of the response and received one week later than originally expected (12 days vice 5 initially expected). Fortunately, I didn't have any scheduled first use so I could wait. Unpacked the item today and everything went great. All material included, directions easy to follow, assembled and installed on car in about 15-20 minutes. Seems to fit tightly and securely. Tilts back to permit opening hatch as advertised. Price was competitive. Hoping to load the bikes on tomorrow and get out for a ride!

  • Can Thule Hitching Post Pro Fit on 2011 Toyota Camry
Yes, the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is compatible with your 2011 Toyota Camry. I recommend using the Draw-Tite # 36416 because it features a hidden crosstube for a cleaner look (see attached). Since this is a Class II trailer hitch you can actually utilize the 4 bike positions of the bike rack. I have attached an installation video of the trailer hitch on an '11 Camry as well as a video of this bike rack on an '11 Camry for you to reference. You may also be interested in the Softride...

  • Recommended Trunk Mounted 2 Bike Rack for 2014 Toyota Sienna
Because your 2014 Toyota Sienna likely has the spoiler at the top of the hatch, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier # HRF2. This bike rack is confirmed to fit your vehicle and is designed specifically for compatibility with spoilers. I've attached a couple of videos to show you how this fits and the adjustable features. For the best ride, I recommend the Softride Soft Hook-and-Loop Tie Downs # SR54FR for your front wheels and the Swagman Bike Adapter Bar # 64005...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a Bike Rack on a 2016 Acura RDX
We always recommend using a trailer hitch with a 2" receiver over the 1-1/4" size because they have higher weight ratings and because you can use a wider variety of bike racks. Technically since the 1-1/4" is smaller it will be less noticeable but realistically there isn't that big of a visual difference between the 2 sizes. I recommend using the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # C13130 for your 2016 Acura RDX which gives you that 2" receiver plus it installs in such a way that only the receiver...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack for a 2018 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
We do have some trailer hitches that are confirmed to fit your 2018 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. Out of our selection I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24949 because it is set at a competitive price point and it doesn't require a support strap # 18050 like the Curt # C11422 does. Then for a bike rack (if you don't already have one) I recommend the Kuat Beta # B202-114. This lightweight (12.6 lbs) aluminum bike rack comes fully assembled right out of...

  • Best Trunk Mounted Bike Rack For 2017 Toyota Prius
For a confirmed fit trunk mounted bike rack for your 2017 Toyota Prius I recommend the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack # Y02634 or 3-bike # Y02633 because I believe it is the best option for your vehicle. This bike rack comes with all the bike and rack locks so you simply need to add a bike adapter bar like # 64005 for any step through frame bikes and then use Softride # SR54FR to keep your front wheels from hitting the car or each other.

  • Recommended Bike Carrier for 2018 Ford Focus ST
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11431 is a confirmed fit for 2013-2018 Ford Focus ST models. It is a confirmed fit for your 2018 model and will fit above the exhaust and under the bumper. This will work well for your bike rack, but you will want to make sure to install and uninstall the rack only after the exhaust pipes have cooled for safety when maneuvering in that tight space. I recommend the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64683 which will have the locks included. If...

Yes, the Reese bike rack # 63120 will fit Curt trailer hitch # C11265 on your 2017 Toyota Corolla. This bike rack does not have the ability to keep the bike tires straight while driving. In order to keep the tires straight you can use hook and loop strap # SR54FR. I have linked a video featuring these straps for you. Since you have the Curt hitch you will also need to use stabilization strap # 18050 per Curt's warranty requirements. I have included a link to a video showing how it works...

  • Will the Swagman Trailhead # S63360 Fit a 2016 Jeep Renegade
To determine whether or not the Swagman Trailhead # S63360 will fit your 2016 Jeep Renegade you simply need to measure from the center of your hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of your bumper. If that is less than 11" (which it should be) then this will fit perfectly! When we installed the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76021 on a similar 2016 Jeep Renegade we found the distance to the edge of the bumper to be 7". Although this will vary between trailer hitch manufacturers...

If you are wanting to use a trunk mounted bike rack to carry 2 bikes on your 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio Convertible then I highly recommend the Hollywood Racks Expedition # HRF6-2 because the adjustable arms and anti-sway cradle combination is hard to beat at this price point compared to other bike racks that fit your Cabrio. The adjustable arms not only allow you to keep your bikes level but they also fold up when you aren't carrying your bikes so that you have more rear clearance. The anti-sway...

It is easily adjusted, uses a simpler 4 cam-buckle system for quick installation, and comes with bike and rack locks. It can carry up to 3 bikes with a weight capacity of 90 lbs but it only weighs 21 lbs! The FullBack comes with everything that you need to install it so you won't need any adapters. For your 2017 Subaru Outback, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7601 is a confirmed fit that will fit the Thule bike racks. The center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper is 2-1/2 inches, so you will be able to utilize the Thule bike racks. The Thule Helium bike carrier # TH9042PRO or # TH9043PRO both have a distance greater than that 2-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the locking knob so they will be compatible. The Cam-Lock Ladder Strap with Snap Shackle for Rhino-Rack Aero/Sportz Crossbars - 20" Long # SLS5 does not need to be removed when not in use. You will however want to secure the slack to keep it from flapping in the wind as you stated. The Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top # HRF2 comes with security straps that are similar to the Thule Passive Security Strap # TH533. Simply loop them around your bike rack and then toss the anchor into your rear hatch area. Ultimately any lock (or strap) can be beat given enough time and the right resources. If you don't trust leaving it on your vehicle with the security strap then yes, the best form of security would be to take the bike rack off and toss it in your vehicle. Should you have...

You will be limited to a total of 90 lbs for this rack. I also recommend the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # 64005. Based on the replacement straps we have available the Yakima straps # 8890221 would be the best option though they are not tested for use on the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2-3. This strap is 9 inches long with 1/2 inch diameter holes. Another option is to supplement the rubber straps with hook and loop straps such as # SR54FR. These straps are 16 inches long overall. Our installation notes say to use the tow loops (holes) on the side of the vehicle to attach straps or hooks. You can use strap # 753-2030-03. Another option is # SR54FR which is shorter but easy to use. Strap the front wheel to the bike frame and that should keep the bike(s) in line.
