BUYER BEWARE: If you are seeing this, you probably learned the hard way. You must lock this on your bike carrier ..Every. Single. Time! Or it will fall off, and the bolt will follow. No replacement on the bolt, so you will be forced to buy a whole new Swagman Bike Carrier!!

At first it worked great, but then after several months of use one of the locking components inside the knob started to slip. Then a month later another, then another till now 4 of the locking components slip while trying to tighten. If this keeps up soon I will not be able to tighten it at all. Great idea but cheap material.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I did reach out to Swagman who advised that the knobs are being redesigned to correct this issue. I do not have a current ETA on when the new knobs will be available.

It seems reasonably well-made, but it is not really interchangeable with the Sportrack SR0017. This is because the required bolt is 5/16 - 18 but for some bizarre reason NO 5/16 bolts will have a head that is less than 1/2 inch. They will not fit into this knob. The width of the head internal to this knob is only about 7/16 inch.
Not sure how you'd ever get a bolt to fit in this thing.

This locking knob part # P1030 is designed for Swagman roof mounted upright bike Carriers. It is not a replacement part for SR0017 which is a sport rack locking knob. The SR0017 is no longer available from the manufacturer but we do carry replacement locking knob part # SR0018

- Are Swagman Replacement Locks P1030 And P1040 InterchangeableI checked and the Swagman locks are fits for different applications, so the Replacement Locking Knob for Swagman Original and XP Series Bike Carriers - 2009 and Newer # P1040 is not a replacement or interchangeable with the Replacement Locking Knob for Swagman Roof Mounted Upright Bike Carrier # P1030. They are for different bike racks and also take different bolt sizes, which is why they can't be swapped out.
