  • Wired to Brake Controller
  • Tekonsha
  • Vehicle Specific

Streamline the installation of your trailer brake controller with this custom adapter. Simply connect the wires of the harness to your brake controller and then plug the other end into the junction box beneath your vehicle's dash.

Features:

  • Pigtail wiring adapter eases installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • Connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
  • Wire end connects to the wires on your brake controller with the included butt connectors
    • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector in your vehicle's junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpeting.

To hook this adapter up to your trailer brake controller, just connect the 4 wires of the harness - ground, power, brake switch, and brake power - to the corresponding wires on the brake controller. If your brake controller came with a plug built into its wiring harness, you will have to cut off the plug and connect to the wires themselves.

  • How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
To install a brake controller on your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 4x4, you will just need the vehicle specific plug-in adapter. These adapters are usually brand specific. For example, if you go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller, # 90195, which is one of the top brake controllers on the market, then you will want to use their adapter, # 3016. I've attached an installation video of this setup on a 2017 Silverado for you to check out. If you are undecided on a brake controller...

  • Brake Controller Install Harness Recommendation for 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
We have the brake controller install harness part # 3016-S which will plug into the port under the dash of your 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and will give you 4 blunt cut wires you can then wire to your brake controller. Or if you have a Tekonsha controller like the P2 part # 90885 you can use the part # 3016 and it will plug directly into the controller's connector as well.

  • Where is the Wiring Harness Located For a Brake Controller On a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500
There is existing wiring under the dash on your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. Your truck comes with a pre-wired factory tow package which means it is set up to easily install a brake controller. The plug-in wiring harness sits right under the dashboard above your brake pedal. This wiring harness has a plug-in end which will allow a brake controller to be easily installed without splicing or cutting into the wire. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 for your vehicle. This...

  • Installing Voyager XP in 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
To install your Tekonsha Voyager XP in your 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you will use the adapter harness # 3016-S. What you will want to do is match the wires on the harness to the wires on your brake controller color-for-color. The other end of the adapter will plug into your Silverado. You will find the plug under the dash, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet. I have attached the installation instructions for this adapter for you.

  • Brake Controller Install Harness Recommendation For 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500
A 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 uses a different brake controller install harness from a 2006 model. You'd have to swap the harness for a part # 3016-S and you'd be set. You'll need to splice the wires of the # 3016-S to the wires of your controller matching color for color and you'd be set.

  • Should I Use The Pigtail 3016-P or 3016-S When Adding a Tekonsha Primus IQ To a 2022 Chevy Tahoe
To connect the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 on your 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe you will want to use the 3016-P Pigtail # 3016. This pigtail will have connectors on both ends while the Pigtail # 3016-S will only have the factory connector. If you use this connector you will have to wire it to the universal pigtail which comes with the Primus IQ. This creates an additional failure point on the harness which can fail.

  • Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ
We do not carry the factory brake controller for your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 but we have numerous aftermarket options that have proven to be far superior to the factory controllers. For a model that takes up very little space I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR. Unlike most other controllers the interface with the Tow-Pro Elite is just a little knob that, once installed, looks like an OEM knob. And to plug this controller into the factory brake controller port use # 3016-S....

  • Install Harness Recommendation for Installing Redarc Tow-Pro Elite in 2014 GMC Sierra 1500
You are on the right track. To install the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR in your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 will require you to use the install harness part # 3016-S which is very similar to the # 3016 except it doesn't have the Tekonsha specific connector. Instead it has just the GM connector for the trucks wiring and 4 blunt cut wires to wire to the Redarc. You could use the # 3016 if you wanted to but you'd have to cut off the Tekonsha connector.

  • Best Brake Controllers for a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500
For your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 I recommend the P3 brake controller # 90195. This controller has easy to understand diagnostics, it can be mounted a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel, and it can plug right into your truck using wiring harness # 3016. Or if you want something that is going to take up less dash space but still give you great proportional braking I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite, # RED44FR and wiring harness # 3016-S to plug it into the truck. • Troubleshooting Factory Brake Controller on 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71
For the factory brake controller on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500, the factory brake controller will install to the same location as an aftermarket wiring harness like # 3016. The black box to the left of your brake pedal is the location with the middle left shown in the video being the plug location within that box. I have heard that if your vehicle did not come with the factory brake controller it can't be added (which would explain it not working), but I'm not confident about that...

In the unlikely event that your Sierra is one of the few released without the 7-way trailer connector, you can install one using part # HM40975. The tow package wiring harness is stored up above the spare tire, simply remove the protective cap from the end of the harness and plug it directly into the backside of the # HM40975. You will connect the brake controller wiring with the vehicle wiring already present under the dash. I attached an install video and help article that covers how this is done. To install this controller in a 2010 Lexus GX 460 will require the install harness part # 3040-P instead and a second install bracket part # 7686.
