Today we'll be taking a look at the Yakima windshield fairing. These are available in a variety of different sizes: at 34 inches long, part number Y05016; at 40 inches long, part number Y05017; at 46 inches long, part number Y05018; at 52 inches long, part number Y05019. The one we'll be working with today is 40 inches long, but they all share the same features. This universal fairing deflects wind around your roof rack to drastically reduce noise and drag. Its sleek design enhances the overall look of your roof rack. It's an easy clamp-on installation, and the padded feet are going to protect your vehicle's finish. The theft-deterring hardware requires the included tool for installation or removal.
The fairing is constructed out of a flexible, heavy-duty plastic, and it's covered by Yakima's Love It Till You Leave It lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we want to do is go ahead and set our fairing in position. Today, we're working with the Yakima JetStream Crossbar, but this will work with your round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems. Let's go ahead and set it in place. We want to make sure the notched portion sits in our crossbar like this, and then we can go ahead and center it up.
Looks like I need to come this way a little bit. Once we've got it centered up, we can then bring our straps around, and then we're going to connect it to the underside here. Once we've got them all connected, we can then tighten them down with our included tool. As you can see, it's drawing the strap through. It'll be a nice snug fit. Once we get it nice and tight, we can just repeat it for the other 3 straps.
With all those tightened down, let's go ahead and take our strap and tuck it in the keeper here, just like that. Now, the last thing that we can do is take our clear pad and place it on our vehicle where our fairing comes in contact. That's just to protect our vehicle from any harm. That'll complete our look at the Yakima windshield fairing.

I installed mine purely for aesthetics, it actually added more wind noise to the existing wind noise from my roof rack...but it looks cool. I do wish it was a little sturdier and built with a stronger material. Mine started developing a crack in the center from the consistent highway wind pressure. At this price, it should be bulletproof for being a piece of plastic. For this reason I think it's overpriced...but, it looks cool.
This fairing fit nicely over my factory moonroof and aftermarket wind deflector on my 2012 Toyota Tundra Crewmax. It will be important to move the front rack into a position to allow the fairing to rest just behind the factory roof mounted XM antenna pod.
The Yakima products are doing great. Just got home yesterday from a 18 day trip using them in Michigan's upper peninsula. Love them. Great products. Thanks again.
Was considering building a DIY wind deflector for my Ford Transit with Yakima roof racks, but opted for the Yakima Wind Shield because I have the Yakima Racks with the Core Bar. Anything I make would not looks as good as the Wind Shield.
Between my racks, there are 2 solar panels.
I needed a means of directing the wind 'over' the solar panels as opposed to allowing the air to go under the panels which could cause a separation.
The assembly and installation was very simple.
It blends in well and enhances the looks of the van considerably.
I have not tested it yet for sound reduction however, I feel confident that it works as advertised.
Very impressed with Yakima engineering in general. Have other Yakima products as well as Thule. I believe they have Thule beat in all respects.

Great! Just finished a 12,000 mile trip around the country and Canada. They are holding up beautifully. Very Pleased.
Yakima 52 inch faring is excellent. I will be using it on my Ford Transit roof rack that is going to be carrying 2 180w Grape Solar panels.
Thank you for the great product and fast shipping.
Always a pleasure to do business with
Keep up the great work.

Happy to report that the Yakima 52 inch faring has done quite well on top my van. It stands up like a trooper......Excellent Product. Would recommend to anyone in need of a faring... Thanks again. Oh it has been to Tennesse, Arizona, Texas and point between at Highway Speeds.
Deflector itself is fine, but with the front crossbar location on our 2012 Mitsubishi being so far back and right over the sunroof, it just did not make sense to install the deflector. Not a flaw of the deflector itself, just saying that you should be thoughtful of where the front bar is located and where the deflector will be on your vehicle before deciding to purchase.
website was extremely user friendly and customer service was even friendlier. Carol went out of her way to help me size my roof rack and make sure the specs were correct before shipping. Shipping was also very timely.
We had to wait on stock a little longer than expected BUT etrailer kept me informed of the progress. Once I received the products installation was a breeze thanks to the instructional videos.
Shipped the same day I ordered it. It arrived in a well packed box. The instructions were easy to follow. The fairing was just as advertised. Very pleased. 2nd time to order from e trailer. Both orders went through without any problems.
Fairing helps reduce noise by a good bit. Without it, the roof sounds like a wind tunnel. Recommended for a complete experience.
Another fine product and super support from your team.
Perfect fit. As advertised.
excellent!
Looks good. Haven't attached it yet, but if its as good as the rack I don't anticipate any problems.
Came in quickly and product is great.
I have a 10th gen Civic sedan and I was dying to get the perfect roof rack set for my car. At the time of my purchase there was not many visuals of what the rack system looked like on this car.
I purchased the:
•Yakima 50in Jetstream crossbars
•Yakima baseline towers
•bc182 & bc183 clips
•Yakima 46in fairing
Overall I love how it looks on my car! During This COVID pandemic I have been camping more, and this is the perfect foundation! First off, the 46in fairing is the perfect fit for the 10th gen civic! Wind noise is low also with the help of the aerodynamic crossbars. My main concern was the fuel efficiency. On long road trips I still average 38-40 mpg with the rack on. My daily commutes I average 34 mpg without Econ on.
Well I wanted for this wind fairing to work out, but it did not. The middle of it didn't actually make contact with my car because of it's (poor) design in my opinion. To be fair, I drive 100 highway miles a day to and from home/work at an average speed of 65 mph. Unfortunately because there was no contact with the center fairing and the car and the fairing vibrated horribly (yes it was tightened as tight as it would go) at speeds over 60 mph and it reduced my gas mileage by 2-3 mpg. Unfortunately this only lasted 2 days for me and I removed it from my car. I have yakima towers and yakima HD bars on my stock Subaru rails. I would not recommend this fairing if you do a lot of highway driving unless you don't care about fuel mileage or hearing what sounds like a snare drum being played on your roof.

Oh that is not good. Let me get you to customer service to see what we can do for the crack. As for the noise, please keep in mind that there will always be a certain level of noise when having a roof rack, especially for square bars.
