Jake: Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima Lock Cores. These are going to be made for your roof rack to be able to lock into your roof. When you buy them from the factory, they're just going to come with plastic lock cores, and it's not going to secure it to your roof while you're not with it. For the example, with our SkyLine Towers, they're very, very easily removable. Just pull back and lift up and your bars are going to be gone.
So by replacing these plastic lock cores with the locking cores, you're not going to have to worry about anyone stealing or tampering with your roof rack. In your kit, you're going to get two keys that are keyed to unlock and lock all of your lock cores, and you're going to get one installation key. This is the key dish we're going to use to push the lock cores into place.To start with, we need to take our flat key and pop our plastic lock cores out. And to get our lock cores into place, we just need to take it, you're going to line it up with this hole. So right here is where you're going to see that little indentation that you're going to stick your lock core into place, where that little knob is going to stick down inside there.
Just push it into place.Now we can take the tip of our finger and hold our lock core and pull our control key out. And we can take one of our two keys that has our notches in it and lock up our bars. And you'll repeat this process for all four of your foot packs. Now, as I said, your kit is going to come with two keys. If you we're to lose them, there are replacement keys available.
On the back there's going to be a letter followed by three numbers. It's a good idea when you first get your kit to write that series of numbers down, so that you know which key is yours, and you can order them here at etrailer.Now, one little helpful piece of advice I'd like to provide you all with is, if you plan on leaving your rack on your vehicle during the winter time or whatever you might be putting your lock cores in, it's a good idea that when winter time is approaching, you spray a little bit of lubricant on the inside of your lock, not only to help your lock work properly, but it's going to prevent any water from building up inside, potentially turning into ice. I had a situation one time where I needed to get into my toolbox for a side job and I couldn't get in because water had gotten into my lock and froze solid, and I couldn't get my key in. But with all that being said, that's going to do it for our look and installation of the Yakima Lock Cores..

Exactly what I needed to eliminate having 3 different Yakima keys. Very easy to install assuming your existing cores are "unlocked" or you don't have locks. I would have gave 5 stars however, I called in and was told that the flat key would remove a locked core - well, it doesn't.. You must go to a locksmith and have them unlocked.. Other than that debacle the SKS worked perfectly and now I have only 1 key!!

Product was good once it arrived. However, the site showed all items in stock. I received an email about a month after I ordered, stating they were on back order. I responded stating that it showed in stock and that I would have purchased through another site had I known this. I got a seemingly automated email back that I took as a "sorry not sorry". I received the order over two months later. Terrible customer service. First time I have shopped with etrailer, and obviously my last.

These lock cores worked perfectly for my Yakima kayak rack. I can use the same key for all the locks and I feel much more secure knowing that someone can't steal my expensive rooftop car rack. So, 5 stars!

The YAKIMA SKS LockCores are of course just part of a bigger rack system I have been putting together on my 2016 Chevy Colorado. The SKS Locks Cores will secure my other Yakima Accessories. The design of the connection seems a little sketchy to me. Hopefully I'm wrong and the design engineers have it figured out. etrailer's selection process, delivery ann installation help both online and on the phone was excellent

Just wanted to say the 4 locks fit and work perfectly. I also ordered a cover plate for the base tower of my Yakima rack, again perfect fit and the new locks will prevent any from popping off in the future. The shipping was fast and free.
