Hi there, adventurers. Today we're going to be taking a look at Yakima's soft strap cinch straps with covered cam buckles. These come as a quantity of two and a 16' length. You can pick up as many as you need here at etrailer, depending on how many kayaks or other items you're planning on cinching down and bringing with you. And if 16' is more than you know you're going to need, they're also available in an 8' length. These are going to be an upgrade over your traditional cam buckle type straps due to the soft strap that we have around our cam buckle here. The nylon material that the strap is made of is similar to that of other straps.
But the real bargain here is at the end, because this is going to protect your gear as you're going down the road. These cam buckles are often shaped very similarly, and the metal edges can scratch into the surface of whatever you're hauling. This nice thick padded material is going to prevent any contact between the metal cam buckle and whatever you're hauling, and there's also enough room in here to store all of the excess strap that you don't need. Simply just fold it over. It keeps things very nice and neat, which minimizes the chance of your straps then be coming down, getting caught on a tire or anything strange going on.
You can keep everything nice and tight, and it looks really good when you're going down the road. We're using them on our trailer here to haul a couple of kayaks, which is a great option for them, again, so it's not going to scratch them. But you're not limited to just using them for trailers and for kayaks, you can use these on your roof rack system, maybe you've got some cargo, some bags you want to store up on top, straps those down. Maybe you just brought something pretty big home in the back of your truck and you just need a strap to secure it, you can use these as well for that. Really just anything you could use a strap for, they're going to function the same as other straps, but they're going to have that extra safety feature for the more sensitive items that you want to haul, that you don't want to damage with the cam buckle.I like the cam buckle straps for quickly securing things, because with a ratchet strap, you have to pull it through, you have to ratch down. It takes a little more time and there's a lot more effort to get those undone as well.
With these cam buckles, you simply press on the release and it's that simple, it just pulls right off at that point, the strap will just pull right out of there. But you can see the serrated teeth if you're not pressing on the button, you cannot pull that strap out of there. But you push the button and it goes easy. And when you're putting these straps on, you don't need to press the button, you can simply pull. Because of the way the spring-loaded mechanism is, it will let it go one direction but not the other.
So you can just pull, get things nice and snug to where it's not going anywhere, and then fold up your excess, and then just use the hook and loop fasteners to secure it all together. And quickly and easily, you've got your items strapped down without a lot of effort and a lot of time. Here at etrailer, we do have a more economical strap if you're looking at something that doesn't have quite all the frills as the Yakima ones. You can see here our etrailer strap installed, and it does have a cover to help protect the items that you're hauling it against, but you can see how much smaller it is. And as you're going down the road, if your strap has a little bit of movement, this cover can work itself back on you, and you could potentially get some abrasions at that point. And etrailer did provide a strap on here so you can keep your excess secured up, so that's also nice. But it just doesn't have the same look as the Yakima, and I can tell you that just the feel that it's going to have on your kayak. It's going to be much more protected around that cam buckle with the Yakima. But if you need an economical one just to get you going, this is an option that's great for you. The strap portion is going to be made of a polypropylene webbing, which is going to be safe for the surfaces of your watercrafts and anything else that you're going to carry, and it's nice, strong and durable. And that completes our look at Yakima's soft strap cinch straps with covered cam buckles.
