Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this tongue extension kit for your Yakima RackandRoll trailer. Now, this is designed to work with the Yakima RackandRoll trailers manufactured from 2009 and later. Basically, adding this tongue extension will allow you to haul longer loads The overall length when this is installed into your tongue will get you another three foot in length. And I wanted to pop up an insert to show you we're talking about. There's a picture of the Yakima RackandRoll trailer.
It has a cargo box, some bikes and a kayak on it and you can see the long tongue in the front there. So basically you can take that tongue off and then add this extension to gain an extra three foot. And that extra extension of three feet to the trailer will upgrade the capacity of that trailer from being able to carry a single 17 foot long or two 16 foot long boats to a single 22 foot long boat, or two 21 foot long boats. And basically to add this three foot extension to your trailer, what you'll do, as we mentioned you'll remove the standard tongue from the trailer and then insert the shank end right here of the extension into the standard tongue. Line up the holes right here, and then use these included bolts and nuts to secure it.
And then what you want to do is you wanna make sure to plug in the included four-way wiring harness extension sits on the inside of this extension to the standard tongue connection. And then you'll extend it out the back of the extension. And just to show you we're talking about I'm gonna zoom in and lift up this end. And you'll see there's your four-way plug right there that you'll be plugging in. And then on the other shank end, you'll have another four-way plug.
So you wanna make sure to make those connections when you put it all together and tighten it down. And then what you'll do is you'll slide the whole tongue assembly with the extension installed into your Yakima trailer and then plug the four-way connector into the four-way on your trailer. Now, the shank portion right back here is a little bit smaller. This is what'll slide into your tongue. This will measure one and a half inches square.
And then the other end here will measure your normal two inches square. But that should do it for the review on this tongue extension kit for the Yakima RackandRoll Trailer.

I also wanted to be about to open the back of the truck with kayaks attached. The extension was perfect and it also rode much better with the added length. I had no side-to-side sway at 65 mph with four kayaks (two 14ft and two 12 ft) and three surf boards. I used to get a pretty decent amount of sway before. Glad I finally invested in this.
Yakima’s tongue extension kit gives you the advantage to be able to transport boats over 17 foot.
I haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet, and it’s still in its box in my garage. It’s good to have it on hand in case I need the extra length on my Rack & Roll Trailer. Based on the quality of the trailer itself and the quality of the trailer accessories that I’ve purchased, I’m confident that the Tongue Extension is a high-quality piece.
Tongue extender for Yakima Rack & Roll trailer. Extender appears to be made of quality material. The internal electrical extension was installed in the tongue backwards, necessitating a removal and rethreading. The instructions didn't mention the presence of a ground wire that had to be connected to the frame on the existing cable harness. Since it was neither mentioned, nor shown in the instruction photos, I foolishly ignored it, and of course the lights didn't work. I had to pull out enough of the harness to splice onto the ground line, then re-pull harness and ground into the tongue. Of course the head of the ground screw twisted off and I had to drill a new hole in the tongue (what is it made of?) for a new ground screw. After all this aggravation the lights worked! I'm happy with the final installation, but feel the directions were serious deficient in discussing the grounding issue.
Tough item to purchase. E trailer came through. This extension will adapt my trailer to load a 18 foot kayak.
great service/ followed ups the last leg was a litte slow i guess it was because it was a sunday
