Video Transcript for Review of the Kickstand for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Kickstand for your Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer. This kickstand is going to let you park your Rack and Roll Trailer safely at the campground, or store it without removing the wheels and the tongue. Now, this is going to be a very easy, very simple install. The kickstand is going to mount on the trailer tongue, and then it's going to fold up just like that when it's not in use.

And then when you're ready to use it, you just press this quick release button here, and that's going to allow you to drop that down. And then you can use that to store your trailer. So this is going to help keep your trailer level when unhitched to keep it from having to be at an angle, or resting on the coupler. Now let me see if I can get this to stand up here by itself. I'm gonna retrieve my tape measure here real quick.

Give you the overall height. So as you can see, we are sitting right at about, overall, a little over 19 inches tall, overall. And this does have a lifetime warranty. Instructions are included to walk you through the really quick and simple installation process. And it does include the hardware here for that installation.

Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

The kickstand and the two screws/cap nuts, loose in the box, arrived without any noticeable damage. The two screws were thin and hardly long enough to get the cap nuts started on the threads so I pitched them. I bought a pair of #10 x 2" hex head screws with nuts and washers and was able to make a much more secure and functional connection and installation. Per other reviews the kickstand may have a tendency to not stay in the retracted position so I may utilize a short strap of Velcro to keep it secured to the trailer bar above during transport. All in all, I'm looking forward to its usefulness in loading up my kayak.

It has worked well since my modification.

I've ordered from etrailer several times. They always have good follow up with good customer service, shipping has always been prompt. However this order was not packaged well and was opened at one end when it arrived the item was not damaged but the mounting nuts were missing. Nothing a trip to the hardware store couldn't fix. I would order from etrailer again. This particular shipment wasn't perfect but sometimes things happen. I'm sure if I contacted etrailer they would have sent me the replacement nuts but it was easier to purchase what I needed locally.

The Yakima trailer kick stand is working as expected. I was using a small table to hold up the tongue of the kayak trailer. The kick stand makes it much easier I should have added it 15 years ago ??. Good product.

by:

The kickstand I received has some different design features from the original Y08115 shown in the video. It is one inch shorter at 16 inches and has a main control push button located on the upper bar that releases only one, rather than two, silver push buttons on the bracket. The bracket has a front guard that allows only zero to about 95 degree forward movement of the stand, i.e., the foot of the stand can only rotate up and back toward the trailer. I expect these changes will be an improvement in functionality without sacrificing stability. Installation is unchanged from the video tutorial. No problem with that. When reassembling the tongue and trailer, I found it preferable to re-route the wiring harness before re-inserting the pin that connects tongue and trailer as it tends to block the passage of the wiring harness connector. Images are included depicting features described.

Couldnt be better. The kickstand replacement works like a charm. The Yakima trailer has performed flawlessly.

Perfect fit for my Yakima trailer. A great accessory.

by:

What can I say - foldable trailer leg for Yakima, works fine.

by:

etrailer was great to work with and kept us notified about shipping status. The trailer arrived when promised, went together easily. looks great and we look forward to using it this spring to haul our two kayaks.

I wanted a small multi-purpose trailer (suited for a canoe, bicycles, or camping storage) and it needed to be easily storable. This trailer from Yakima met all requirements nicely. The build quality is exceptional, as it should be for the price. No questionable design choices. All mechanical parts move smoothly where they should, and fit snugly where they should not. Electrical wiring snaps together neatly at various points, and for the most part is hidden within frame.

I like its storability best. It can be disassembled to various degrees depending on how out of the way you would like it to be. I keep it simple. I remove the tongue and roll the bulk of the trailer for storage inside my garage, under my wall mounted canoe. The roller blade wheels at the brake lights are a great feature for moving the trailer on end.

I mainly use it to transport a 15' 3" Old Town canoe that weighs about 90lbs. Too wide for my Subaru's roof racks, and none too easy getting it up there even if it could fit. This trailer solved that problem, and opened up additional transport arrangements. Because it has roof rack type cross bars, I can share rack equipment on the trailer or car's roof.
I rated 4 of 5 stars for three reasons: price, assembly, and mobility. The price was staggering. I think mostly due to the trailer's quality and storability. I enjoyed assembling the trailer. It required a couple of hours to do by myself. The etrailer video is the way to go. Instruction manual can be used for reference, such as torque requirements. I recommend a torque wrench, don't want to take any chances on road safety. At any rate, because I had to assemble I felt the price should not have been so high. Also, as shown in my photos, one of the shocks arrived upside down. The shocks are preinstalled and I did not have the proper tools to remove and flip it. For this type of shock that is not important. None the less, I called etrailer customer service to confirm and bring it up. Lastly, the mobility is not great. That is simply due to being 2-wheeled. Not easy to back this guy down to a boat ramp. With practice maneuvering it is getting easier.

Odds and ends:
I ordered the spare tire and kickstand as well. The kickstand is yet to arrive due to manufacturer delay, but I put the spare on easily enough. etrailer staff is quite good, as noted elsewhere. They have been keeping me posted on order delays, and offering help.
The trailer arrived kit-wise in large cardboard boxes. I was not happy to find them broken open in several places. That is a delivery concern. Luckily very little damage to trailer components.
I live in Texas, which requires a license plate. I also registered the trailer, although not required. Both were fairly straight-forward. etrailer sent me a Bill of Sales (separately through USPS). This, along with a filled form available from DOT website & a small fee was all that was needed to leave with trailer plate in hand (title arriving later in the mail).
The manual mentions the dangers of the license plate several times. When stored on the trailer's end, the plate protrudes outwards and could be a cutting hazard. This was solved very easily by purchasing a silicone license plate frame for about $5.
Later I ordered a ball mount and trailer wiring kit. The ball had to be installed separately, but the good folks at my local [business] helped with that, free of charge. Hooking up the wiring kit was a breeze. The etrailer video made it easy once again, and lucky for me, they used my car during the demonstration.

by:

Thanks for shipping and it arriving so early and expeditiously. Works perfect.

kickstand keeps trailer assembly up when connecting disconnecting trailer to the trailer hitch. it could be replaced by a buddy when connecting. also keeps trailer level when loading fishing gear in the kayak. this is a must buy, unlike the flag

after another year, im still happy with it but there can be a problem engaging the release button. i generally have my wife help me.

by:

The kickstand works as intended but care must be taken when working around the tongue area that the tongue doesn't receive a hard blow for some reason. Though a side-impact sufficient to twist the Kickstand and allow the tongue to drop has not occurred yet, tripping over the tongue on a couple of occasions has has put a slight bend in the kickstand. I would have preferred to see a slightly more beefy construction. Even so, the tongue has never dropped to the ground due to kickstand failure and It is handy to have.

by:

Must have if you get the Rack n Roll Trailer. Very easy to put together. Make sure you put it on before you put the extension arm on though.

by:

Works as advertised.

by:

The Kickstand comes with an instruction sheet and was easy to install. You have to remove the tongue from the main trailer body, which is easy enough, to slide the Kickstand onto the tongue. The only problem I had was that the locking pin did not want to engage after I installed it and tightened the two screws. I realized that I also needed to tighten the third (larger) screw carefully to get the sides to align better. But even after doing that (which was not in the instruction sheet) I had to spray some white grease into the locking pin mechanism to get the locking pin to work consistently. I will have to be careful when locking the Kickstand in the up and down position to make sure that it is locked securely.

by:

So far so good! Time will tell. The kick stand appears to be built well. Easy installation.

by:

I with my roof rack trailer would have come with this item. It has helped protect the trailer tongue in parking lots and keeps the trailer upright. I use a wheel chock on the trailer tires on uneven surfaces. I am not sure how much weight the push in tab can hold.

by:

This is a perfect fit for the Yakima trailer. However, there's no reason to not use the traditional crank style kickstand if you want to save money. The only difference is that you'll have to crank it each time. This kickstand is simple to use.

by:

I forgot to raise the kickstand before driving away and ruined it. The remarkable thing was the speed of Yakima's response to my order: it was damaged in shipping to me, and I received an answer to my dilemma the same day, they were out of stock, but Yakima gave me a link to etrailer.com who sent it to me immediately. And Yakima reimbursed me for the cost and shipping to offset the new order. I was extremely impressed with the follow-through.

by:

This is a good kick stand, but the engagement mechanism could be strengthen. It is easy to install and easy to manipulate, but the retractable pin (button) and related spring may not hold up over time. This is my third kick stand--the one that came with the trailer and a second one that was identical to this new one. We use the trailer a lot--about three times a week--so we probably put more pressure on the kick stand than most people. It should, however, be built with the expectation of heavy use, not the opposite.

by:

Love my Yakima trailer. Best method yet to transport two recumbent trikes or multiple bikes.

by:

I should have purchased this when I bought the trailer! A bit pricey, but works fine.

I am happy I bought this and think the kickstand should come standard with the trailer. It is still working after a year of light use. The release button is getting harder to push, but that is probably my arthritis.

by:

The R & R trailer should come standard with this feature. This is a great addition though and after having it I can't imagine NOT having it on my trailer. Highly recommended. High quality and easy enough to install.

by:

Does what it needs to. Installation is relatively easy although you need to remove the trailer tongue which is just a couple of bolts. Just remember to put it up before you take off. I finally forgot to do so, so this is the replacement. :-)

It's winter and I can't wait to use this product but mostly I wanted to write about the persistence this company has in standing by your order. This item was backordered for a long time. They took the time to write me an email regularly with the status of when I might receive it. They never cancelled the order, they just persisted with keeping me informed. Much to my delight it arrived yesterday and I cannot wait to use it.

You may want to consider a spare tire # Y08121 for the trailer, which includes a mounting kit to attach it to the frame. We also offer a kickstand, part # Y08115, for easier storage of the trailer. • Availability of Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer Kickstand
The easiest and best kickstand solution for the Yakima Rack and Roll trailers is the part # Y08115 that you referenced. If yours is broken or in otherwise need of replacing this would be the best choice. If for some reason you needed a different type of function from it that it doesn't provide let me know and I'll see if there's a possible jack solution but in terms of just being a foldable kickstand this is best option.
