Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Replacement Spine for Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" Hitches

Hi everyone. It's Eve Angeline here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at a replacement spine assembly for your Yakima HoldUp bike rack right here at etrailer. So this is the inch and a quarter spine assembly for Yakima HoldUp bike rack. You actually have two options you can get inch and a quarter or the two inch spine assembly. So depending on your hitch receiver, as well as if you wanna carry two or four bikes, will determine what kind of spine assembly you have.

For this one, you get the same, pretty much the same weight capacity as a two inch version, but then it fits into your inch and a quarter hitch receiver without a need for an adapter. Now here at etrailer, we have plenty of replacement parts for your Yakima HoldUp bike rack. One thing to remember though, is just to make sure you get the right one for the right bike rack. So if you have trays that are in gray, that's the older version, and we do have the replacement part for that. This has a black finish, so this is the newer Yakima HoldUp bike rack.

And this is the correct replacement part if you have black trays. So what is included with this You get the entire spine assembly. So that includes the shank or the tongue, it includes the bolt that holds the spine and the shank together, and it includes this spring latching pin, or latching spring pin. What it does not include, is a tool you need to remove the trays. So if you don't have this tool, I highly recommend picking up our replacement part, which includes the eight different bolts and the special hex tool, or really just a normal hex tool.

That's what we use for the install process. So let's take a look at that. So to replace the spine, you first need to loosen the hardware on your current spine if that's what you have in place. So just use the included bolt with your original bike rack in order to loosen all eight bolts. With the bolts released, you can now carefully take the tray out of the spine.

And now we have our replacement spine. So this is the inch and a quarter inch version. So that's gonna fit right into our inch and a quarter inch hitch receiver. So with this in place, you can now put your anti-rattle bolt in if you want a little extra security and then attach the trays. So now, just to make my life a little bit easier, I'm going to lift this into the upright position to put the tray on. So make sure you get the right tray, line that up, and bring it over your spine. So just slide this as well along the tracks, if you want to, because I know some people like it off centered to one side, just have more space for their bikes, but if you have it in the place you need it to be, you can then tighten it down with the bolts you took off earlier. So with all two trays re-installed and everything tightened down, just double check all eight of your bolts. That's pretty much it for the install. One thing to remember, is just make sure you have the correct trays on the correct side. I have the logo facing out with it folded up, and then the top tray has logo facing up. So I think what I did here was the easiest way to install your new spine assembly. Just keep it in your hitch and then just move your trays around. If you need to do it in the reverse process, we definitely have the two inch spine assembly for you. If you wanna switch for an inch and a quarter to a two inch, but do what I did for this video in order to make your life a little bit easier. Make sure you check out our different replacement parts here at etrailer and make sure to follow the different product pages just to make sure that you get the right fit for you. And that was a look right here at our replacement spine assembly for your inch and a quarter Yakima HoldUp bike racks right here at etrailer. My name is Eve Angeline, and I hope this helped you out..

Its been a year and the product still like new without any issue of performance. All the products I ordered from Etrailer.com are still like new and function perfectly.

It's good but not great. The only gripe I have about the part is how loose the hinged joint is. It rattles around back there when in the up position (stored) and when down the bike moves around so much more than the original unit ever did.

So, I got in contact with the manufacturer and they are needing to know if you originally purchased a 2 inch rack and then needed it to be 1.25? What was the initial reason behind purchasing the Replacement Spine for Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack?

I do own the 2 version from Yakima that will hold 4 bikes. Getting a smaller car to drive had a smaller hitch so purchased the 1.25 spine from yall and just used one tray off the extension I already had.

That seems to be the issue. I have gotten confirmation from the manufacturer that you can not use the +2 with the extension. You can use the tongue with the original Holdup 2 rack but not the extension.

The item is still working as intended l load a bike on it at least three times a week and always store it up when I pull the bike off to ride so its seen a great deal of use and is still preforming as expected. Ive gotten used to the rattle but every once in a while the movement of the bikes catches me off guard.

I would also like to add that after use amount of use over the last year I would bump it to a solid four star just for the upgraded latch pinlock mechanism. My other Yakima rack spine has a separate safety lock pin that is now a complete nuisance in comparison to whats on this unit.

Certainly would have preferred to purchase just the hitch insert to make my existing 2" a 1.25" but it was unavailable for two months...and i figure longer, if at all, since not on the yakima site either. I think this rack being phased out and replaced. Of course this actual piece was in stock...over 50 bucks more. Really no choice. At the least it could have included a new hitch bolt flr thr price but i had to get that too. Service was good.

Well. It is a hitch . Pretty simple and it works as intended. I find that a one of the rack welds was a bit off and the rack is tilted. That bugs me. Also the rack weighs a ton and without the bolt on stabilizer moves alot between tongue and receiver. Dont think i would buy yakima again.

Had to change from 2 inch hitch to 1.25 for my Yakima holdup rack. Ordered this part from etrailer and it was cheaper than ordering from Yakima! Fits great and came in a few days.

by:

Wanted the option to have a 1.25" or 2" mounting option for my Yakima Holdup and etrailer had exactly what I needed at a great price. The Yakima Holdup is the only way I transport my bikes now to ensure that no damage occurs like the damage that happened with a lower quality carrier. Add to that extremely fast delivery right before the holiday and you can understand why I'm very happy with them. Also want to mention that this is not the first time their service has been fantastic either.

by:

Works as advertised, standard Yakima quality. Can easily go back and forth between this and the 2" my rack came with. Very satisfied with this purchase.

by:

It works perfectly, I would highly recommend this product to anyone. etrailers customer support and shipping are excellent

by:

Needed this as a replacement for one damaged in a fender bender. Perfect fit even on an older rack although the spine part was a different design. Received in 4 days from etrailer.
