Hi, John with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at etrailer's tow bar adapters. Now specifically, this is going to be for a situation where you have a Roadmaster tow bar like the Sterling, the Sterling All Terrain or the Nighthawk, and we need to adapt up to an etrailer classic base plate. Now the Roadmaster ends on the Roadmaster tow bars. They're gonna look like this and we need them to switch over to this design here. Your kit's gonna come with everything that you need to swap these out.
It's gonna be all the new hardware and bushings and everything else, and it really does install quickly and easily. Now, we already got this one side on here, so I'm gonna kind of get that out of the way to get this Roadmaster end off. I think most of these are gonna have the same type of hardware. You're gonna need a six millimeter Allen head on the one side and then either a 14 millimeter or a nine sixteenths wrench to get the other side off and typically these aren't torqued to a crazy amount here and make sure you retain any bushings that fall out and everything just in case you want to use these in the future, although it's advisable to get new hardware if you we're to ever put these ends back on. So this is the hardware you're gonna get to install the adapter here.
You're gonna get, of course a bolt nyloc washer. You're gonna have two bushings and then a two wear bushings here. So doing, get this on, start the bolt through the pin here, you're gonna want to get a wear washer on first and then a bushing. Then we're gonna fit that up and then just do the reverse on the other side here. So we'll have the wear washer.
Just make sure the wear washer is against the metal on the adapter there. Let's see if I can get this in here. May have to swivel the adapter around, it is gonna be a nice tight fit. There, we got it there. Run that through and we recommend using blue Loctite.
It comes in either a stick form like this or a liquid and then we can apply the nyloc. So this is just a little bit added security. The nyloc is an anti-vibration and then the blue Loctite will help keep it from backing out of there. Now to tighten these down, we've got a 19 millimeter socket and wrench. There is no torque values on this, so let's go ahead and use your judgment. What they do have is they'll, they would like to see the bolt protruding out at the end over here. They said at least half the diameter of that, which we already have that. So you can see, I still got a little swing in this, so I'm gonna tighten this down a little more, but not too much 'cause it will get stiff on you here and it's not gonna back off. So that's gonna be pretty good right there. So once you have both sides set up and you can hook it up to your base plate, these will slide inside the center here and you can run your pin through and with these locking pins here, you do wanna make sure these will flip over both ways, but you want them to flip over. If you see the overhang on this side, it's more than this side. That's the way you always want them to close. They're gonna lock down tight, that way they could come off the other way. So all in all, I think these adapters are gonna be good for folks if they have a tow bar that's in great shape, but you just upgraded, you know, your vehicle or your base plate on your vehicle. These things are made in the USA, of course. They're gonna be rated to the same standards that your tow bar is rated at. So in this case, we have an 8,000 pound tow bar. We don't have to worry about anything like that and the fit and finish on it is good. The welds are good on it. Then they're powder coated. They're gonna last you for years. That'll do it for today's look at etrailers's tow bar adapters from Roadmaster to etrailer classic.
