Clayton: Hey guys, how's it going Clayton here with etrailer.com. Today, I have a 2015 Subaru Outback wagon. I'm going to be showing you how to install a PTC Engine Air Filter. Our filter is going to be made out of embossed paper pleats. These are going to be good because it's going to catch all of the dirt and debris coming into our air compartment into our engine. This filter also has a silicone lining around the outside, which I think is really nice because it creates a nice tight seal in our airbox.So, in my right hand is our old filter and in my left hand is our new filter.

This side doesn't look that much different, but when you flip this over, you can see how dirty our old filter is. If you look in our pleats, you can see all of our dirt and debris. This is going to restrict airflow to our engine, which you do not want because it puts more pressure on your engine to pull air. Then if you look at our new filter, all of our pleats are clean, so our air is going to be clean coming into our engine. We're not going to put any extra stress or added stress onto our engine.Now that I've gone over some of the features of our new filter, I'll show you how to get it installed.

To begin our installation, we're going to remove our engine cover. The easiest way to do this is to pull from the back. You'll hear a little click and then it'll remove, and you can set it off to the side. After you remove your engine cover, our next step is going to be to remove our MAP sensor plug. On our plug there's going to be a push tab, so push down then pry off.

And, here's the tab you're going to push right here.Our next step is going to be to remove our intake tube. You're going to take this hose clamp off. This will use an eight millimeter socket. You don't have to take it all the way off, but just get it loose, and then you can pry your intake tube off of your intake box. And with that free, there's going to be two tabs here.

You'll pop these tabs off.With half of our airbox removed, our filter is free to come out. It's always a good idea to clean out any dirt or debris that's down here. You can use a Shop-Vac or simply a wet paper towel and just wipe that out. With our airbox cleaned out, we're now ready to install our new filter. When you're putting this in, you want to make sure that the white silicone side is facing out. And it looks loose, but your airbox cap is going to hold this on snugly.As you can see there's little tabs here. You want to make sure that you get those snapped in on the bottom just to make sure it gets a tight seal at the base of our airbox. You might have to wiggle it around for it to fit perfectly. And our air box is in place. It's time to put our intake tube on. We can start from the bottom. You'll just have to work this rubber around the edge of our inlet just to make sure it's on completely.After we've tightened down our hose clamp, we're getting to plug back in our MAP sensor. After you have your MAP sensor on and your hose clamp tightened down, we can snap down our airbox straps. We'll snap those on there, and then we can put our engine cover back on. When you hear it snap down, you know it's into place. That's going to do it for a look at and installation of a PTC Engine Filter on a 2015 Subaru Outback wagon.
