This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.
Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.
Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.
There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.
The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

Base plate bolts directly to your chassis, so no welding is required.I must admit the only way that understanding the instructions and installing the BX1126 Base Plate on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler could have been any easier. Would be if there would have been a mechanic in the box to install it for me. The videos on etrailer are great and will answer any questions that you might have.

received the plate installed it in less than three hours, have yet to hook it up though. Great , fast shipping!
The only issue were the cheap plastic push pins on the shield of the Jeep.

Spent over $3k for parts and was missing 4 whiz nuts to complete installation. When I contracted etrailer for support, it seemed Blue Ox wanted to question my integrity over the missing $5 in whiz nuts after I spent over $3k. Had to buy my own nuts to complete install.
Jenny N - 04/06/2022Not very happy with the delivery of my baseplate was supposed to be delivered with the other three packages and waited 3 weeks for u guys to do investigation on where the baseplate was I will not be ordering any thing else from e trailer had to cancel a camping trip because I didn't have my baseplate for the jeep.

I have now installed the following on my 2017 Wrangler:
Brake light relay kit .
Hopkins Towed vehicle Tail Light wiring kit.
Blue Ox base plate.
Blue Ox Patriot Portable RF Braking System.
All of this has taken about 3 days of work spread out over a week or so. Overall it went well. Not too many surprises. Crawling around under a car at 71 is a bit of a strain but I'll get over it. I must say that Donna P. has been a wonderful source of great information and has stayed right on top of the process. eTrailer has been a great source for this project.
I would recommend you all with no hesitation.
John M - 06/15/2018Product arrived on time and went on just as it should. Thank goodness for the YouTube installation videos, that made it super easy. It went on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler, which just so happened to be the video as well. My local RV dealer wanted $300 to put it on. Me and my neighbor had it done in 3 hours and saved all that money, except for the six pack I owed my neighbor. I was fortunate he had a lift as it made it much easier, but it could have been done with a jack or creeper. I've ordered a lot from etrailer and will continue to be a loyal customer
Etrailer had the right base plate for my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the video was wonderfully helpful. Took about 3-4 hours but I was taking my time to be accurate. Cutting the belly pan is "high pucker" but measure twice cut once. I used a Dremel tool to cut and drew my cut lines on masking tape.
My third Blue Ox Base Plate. Fit and function are perfect. Fits my existing (first) tow bar and the tab height is nearly exactly the same as my 12 year older Jeep so didn't even need to make any draw bar changes.

I installed this base plate on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited about a year ago and it works flawlessly. I would highly recommend this product and would say that anyone with moderate mechanical skills could install this product. Special care is required in cutting the air dam to fit, but it can be done.
Dealership was going to cost me $xxxx+ to install a 4 down flat tow setup for my new RV and Jeep. I bought the parts and installed myself for less than $xxxx, granted, some of the cost from the dealership was obviously labor. Installing myself forced me to research the heck out of a myriad of different setups and I chose one that I believe will work perfect for me. etrailer should package full setups with different options for the novice that might not be good at selecting parts. A lot could have gone VERY wrong if * didn't educate myself. In the end, I went with a blue ox tow bar setup and base plate appropriate to my Jeep. 8 did the Brake Buddy 3 which included battery recharge wire which I was able to wire into my 7 wire to 6 wire harness. For wiring I went with a bulb socket set (LEDs) which did not require splicing into vehicle harness.
Jamie was great to deal with. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. I was also stunned that my baseplate to tow my Wrangler behind my motorhome was on my doorstep within 28 hours! Thank you! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

6000 winter miles towing a Jeep often up an down mountains. No problem with the base plate kit.
etrailer provided very good service. They were responsive to my issue, sent out a return for the parts, inspected everything and replaced what needed to be changed.

This one didnt fit with after market bumper . Call ordered bx1134 and fit with minor noching of bumper . E trailer was great on return and reship .
I had the Blue Ox BX1126 tow bar installed by a reputable local automotive shop with experience installing towing base plates. The installation video appears to cover the whole process very well for do-it-yourselfers. If you've got the tools, it certain looks doable. My primary concerns were: loosening the major bolts for the installation, and ensuring the proper torque afterward.
The installation looks really good with the facia guard back in place. And I really like the removable arms when not in use. Just completed a 700 mile round-trip with absolutely no problems.
