Custom designed to fit your vehicle so it can be safely towed behind your RV, this base plate has easily removable arms that offer a seamless look when you're not flat towing. Base plate bolts directly to your chassis, so no welding is required.

This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.
Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.
Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.
There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.
The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

The size of the box terrified me but I had to do this one myself.
This project is not for the faint of heart. When you think about what could go wrong you could wet yourself. I went with my gut and just opened the box. Hmmm, packaged very well with everything you need for the install. No going to the hardware store for this or that. Sat there with a cold sarsaparilla and read the very detailed instructions, went back to the etrailer web site and checked out some vids and pics. Hmm, it didn’t seem that daunting of a job. On my 04 Lexus GX470 most of the holes were drilled. Before I knew it 5 hours had past and I owned a toad! I took it to my local Rv service center for an inspection and it was deemed safe to use.
This thing is awesome, tracs straight as an arrow.
Now, I have to figure out this diode lighting kit. Camping is fun! Yah!!! :) Noah and etrailer made this a tolerable project. I urge everyone to take advantage of the resources that are on this sight. I always learn something when I’m there. See y’all on the trail….Rod
I am really happy, not only with the product but the customer care I received. Very quick and helpful!!
I would make one suggestion. Take the headlights out when doing this on a Chevy Cobalt. It will make it much easier to get to the 3 bolt holding the fender to the fascia.
Pretty easy to do my self but the instructions could have been a bit larger with more pictures. I think the hardest part was drilling the holes to attach the two brackets as there was only one hole on each frame. Getting the square nuts with wire attached were difficult to get both aligned because the wire on the first one got in the way each time
It turned out fine but my opinion is that you should have some average or above mechanical skills to install this yourself. As you can see, the base plate protrusions are hardly noticeable at a distance with the tow pins removed. One thing worth mentioning is I had to mount it more rearward on the frame because the front valance would not mount back on correctly. Overall, good base plate.
The Bx2692 is the better tow bar solution because it is higher up to hopefully keep your tow bar flat. I modified a Base bumper to install this because it is only available for the "Modular" and "Capable" bumpers. The base bumper option from bluox is for lower tow hook delete option. Took about 3hrs with the help of a grinder jigsaw and multi tool.
The item I received must have been a returned item. The box label was proof it was shipped to someone else before. Reason I'm not happy is because the bag of screws was open and most of it slipped out of the holes of the damaged box that was opened before and re-taped. The end of the crossbar was bent and not much packing inside. I needed this for our trip, so I didn't return it and had to fix and find screws to make it all work.
This is the seventh Blue Ox baseplate I have installed on my personal vehicles. All have been pretty straight forward until this one. I had noticed on the installation video that positioning the base plate was skipped over and went directly to drilling and bolting into place. Now I know why. It was impossible to get the baseplate into position on my 2012 Jeep Patriot. After 2 hours of fruitless attempts I took a break and gave it some thought. I decided to remove the bumper and attach baseplate and bumper together. I used 2 carpenters clamps and old reliable duck tape. Set the assembly on stands and inched it into place. Worked great, slid easily into place for drilling and bolting. I had previously trimmed the frame but it would have been much easier with the bumper removed. I believe this is a reasonable alternative, maybe better method of installation.
I have been using this Blue Ox tow bar kit for a year now and have put over 10,000 miles on it. It has performed flawlessly and in my opinion it is an excellent product that I would highly recommend. etrailer is a great company to work with and their website is easy to use and has great information.
Perfect fit and simple instructions with pictures saved me hundreds by doing it myself...Thank You Blue Ox and etrailer!
Installation is Easy & Clear. The most challenging part is getting the Fascia Quarter panels to separate from the clips. I found that there is an additional identical screw a little deeper behind the one that is instructed to remove. If both screws are removed - fascia doesn't have to be tugged on and it easily releases itself without breaking any clips. The Safety Cables are not easily routed away from the belt on the passenger side but there are three factory holes in the body that they can be secured to help keep clear from the belt.
Shipment was quick. Blue Ox instructions for installation were clear and precise.
Originally was scheduled to arrive a week earlier than it did. Upon looking at the track/route it was shipped is a little confusing. It went from Missouri to western Canada,BC then all the way back to Canada’s east coast to PEI. Hard to understand why it was not shipped to Toronto, Ontario or in Quebec. Would have received much sooner. I do understand there are delays from time to time. I think it would have been cheaper for eTrailer also and possibly I could have saved on the shipping cost. However we did receive the baseplate. Box did look like it had a rough ride!
This is the best tow system out there in my opinion. It only takes a few minutes to connect and disconnect from the vehicle. Even my 5 yr old son can do it with very little assistance. That's how easy it is!! The base plate fit my 2010 Suzuki perfectly. It was a little tricky to install but overall not very hard. I highly recommend this setup and I would not buy from anywhere but etrailer. Their customer service is amazing, shipping is fast and usually free!
I watched the video and installed it myself. I had to buy a hole saw, but other than that I had all the tools. It took about 3.5 hours. The only odd thing is the Edge hook up is very high. I had to purchase a 6 inch riser class III hitch.
Absolutely love our Blue Ox system. Was easy to install (with a little mechanical help) and has served us over 11,000 this past year. We were extremely fortunate that etrailer had a video of our exact year and model which made installation even easier.
We've towed over all sorts of terrain and would absolutely purchase this again and recommend it to anyone who asks!
Oredering and shipping was fast and easy. Products arrived in good condition. I haven't installed them yet, but it all looks as advertised. Not my first order with etrailer and the customer service was outstanding as always. Why anyone would order from any place other then etrailer I cannot fathom.
The Blue Ox Baseplate and wiring kit was a breeze to install on my 2012 Honda Fit. The instructions were very clear, and the price was the lowest I found on the internet. Buy your products from etrailer.com, they have the best and most comprehensive instructions for this type of installation.
This is our second tow vehicle. etrailer made it easy to shop for our 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport. We purchased a Blue OX base plate for our Mini Cooper previously and the videos make it easy to install. We use the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Tow bar and the Roadmaster BrakeMaster System w BrakeAway for RVs w Air or Air Over Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional. Can't wait to get the new Jeep set up.
I ordered all the parts required to safely flat tow out 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk from ETrailer.com. The only part they didn't have was the Mopar Flat Tow Enhancement kit Jeep requires to flat tow this model.
Ordering from them was great, the website is easy to use and I was able to locate all the pieces compatible with my specific vehicle. The expert recommendations help my decision choosing the right parts. I ordered from ETrailer even though I found some of the parts on other websites a little cheaper. I chose to pay a little more because of all the effort ETrailer has put into installation videos and guides. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn from ETrailer that they have a price match guarantee!
So my equipment consisted of the following
Mopar Flat Tow Enhancement Kit (from Jeep)
Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles
Mighty Cord 7-Way RV Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End
WesBarg 7-Way, RV-Style Connector w/ 6' Long Coiled Cable Trailer End
Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV Blade-Style Trailer Socket - Vehicle End
Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles
SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System
Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles
Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar - Motor Home Mount - 6,500 lbs
Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms
Blue Ox Tow Bar Cover - Aladdin, Aventa LX, Aventa II
The installation videos are great but not all inclusive. Take the time to read the instructions that come with the parts. This is a major project, I took about 30 hrs over a full week but as you'll see in the pictures I took s few extra steps to make a cleaner look.
Some of those extra steps:
The base plate install requires the bumper be modified cutting off a flange on each side, I spray painted this to prevent corrosion.
In the install video of the baseplate on the drivers side they use an extra quick link (not included) to run the safety cable around the wiper fluid reservoir. I took the time to remove it and run the safety cable behind it.
I didn't want our nice new vehicle to look like it can be towed so I played the brake away switch and 7 way trailer plug behind the license plate, so when not being towed our vehicle looks great!
Some things to be aware of. The Brake air cylinder that mounts to the brake pedal with four bolts may need longer bolts, it did on our Jeep. Spend the money for weather tight heat shrink crimp fittings. The Hopkins wire harness was about 1.5 feet short to get to my plug location. Buy extra zip ties, electrical tape and split loom.
I recommend reading all the various installation manuals and watching all the videos because the various components integrate together and if you install one at a time you'll be doing a bunch of extra work.
The brake light relay is a real pain in the butt, not because of the hardware but because of the location of the brake light switch which is very hard to get to.
Overall I am very happy with the products and how the installation looks. We haven't towed it yet but do not expect any problems.
Perfect fit, well built of high quality materials. In my mind you just can't get much better than Blue Ox. The only issue is that the BX1120 doesn't have removable twist lock tabs. The fixed draw bar mounting tabs are at just the right height and position to play havoc with your shins when the draw bar is not installed. I solved that problem with a shin guard I made of 2 inch schedule 40 PVC. (see photo) Fits perfectly, guards the breakaway switch and lighting connector when not in use, and solves the shin interference problem.
Excellent quality. I have no doubts about the performance of this product.
There is a disparity concerning the placement of two of the fasteners. The exploded view shows the Whiz nuts positioned to the front (vertically) and the Nut plates positioned to the back (vertically). The instructions show them top and bottom (horizontal).
Just what I needed to flat tow my Jeep Wrangler. When I first received the base plate I was thinking about having it installed, but after watching the etrailer.com installation video I decided to do it myself. Couldn't have asked for a smoother install. The permanent base plate safety cables concerned me a little. I came up with a figure-8 over the frame that I think will work ok and I did secure it with some cable ties in a couple of spots.
Thanks to Nick at etrailer for the help and to the folks that made the installation video giving me the confidence to do-it-myself.
By far the best way to take your vehicle with you when RVing is flat towing. etrailer.com has everything you need and they are a phone call away. I dealt with Noah G and he was very knowledgeable and very helpful throughout the process of getting everything I needed to flat tow my wife’s 2019 Ford Explorer. Highly recommend them.
