Hey everybody, how's it going Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Saris Cable Lock. So our cable lock here is gonna have many different purposes. The primary one, however, is more than likely gonna be to secure your bikes. So if you have some of the lower-end range or the middle-end range of a bike racks on the market chances are it doesn't come with any sort of security or locking mechanism, and we don't want someone to come up and just steal our bikes off our rack. Therefore, we need a way to secure our bikes to that rack, and that's where our cable lock comes into play. So the length of our cable here is gonna be eight foot.
And the reason that's important is that's gonna allow us to wrap the cable around multiple bikes, so even up to three or four bikes depending on what bike rack we have, we're gonna be able to secure all those bikes to the rack. Now, if you're using this for another purpose that extra length is obviously gonna come in handy as well. Now, the actual diameter of our cable is gonna be about 10 millimeters, and it is stainless steel underneath there, so it's gonna do a great job of protecting it from rusting corrosion. We also have a nice vinyl coating on our cable there, which is gonna protect your bike's frame. That way it's not scratching the paint off.
Now I will say the lock isn't completely indestructible, nor really is any lock designed to be. This is gonna be a very durable product that's gonna protect your bikes, but any thief with enough time is gonna be able to get into this lock there with a Sawzall and angle grinder. There's a couple different tools you could use, but that's gonna be the case for pretty much any lock. No lock is really gonna be marketed as completely indestructible. However, the mere presence of one is enough to stop most thieves, and that's where our cable lock comes into play.
So we talked about the cable a little bit. Now let's go ahead and talk about the actual lock core. So this lock core can be kind of hard to tell, this is actually painted, but it is a metal, so someone's not gonna just be able to crush this thing and get the lock off here. And we also have a nice, important, very important, rubber boot here that goes over the lock core. That's gonna protect the lock core from any water getting in there or dirt and debris because I don't care how nice of a lock you have, if there's water that gets in there, dirt and debris that gets in there, it's gonna seal the lock core up, and you're gonna have to cut it off, but just making sure you keep that boot on there you shouldn't have any of those issues whatsoever.
We're also gonna get two keys here. So we'll just easily use that to unlock and lock. You can see this actually comes off, and then we just have this little bullet-style connector that feeds through the loop here. Now I'm just using this to secure one bike. So this is my bike here, and I have it secured to my bed rack. And since we have that extra long cable, I just went ahead and wrapped it around my bike a couple times giving even more protection there. And then when we wanna secure it, you'll just stick that bullet-style connector through the open loop and then press down on there to lock it, pull it out, and then put your boot on, and you're ready to go. So in summary, there's really a wide range of uses for our cable lock here. You don't have to use this for bikes. You can use this for pretty much anything you can think of, but again we would say bikes are the primary focus of this cable lock. This is a great option to secure your bikes to some of those lower or middle tier bike rack options. Most of the premium tier options are gonna have some built in cable locks, and if you don't have one of those racks, that's fine. This is still a nice cost-effective way to secure your bikes and prevent theft. And that's gonna do it today for our look at the Saris Cable Lock..

this cable/lock system has held up great, I use it to secure my cooler to one of the rear cleats on my boat.
the cable is of a decent gauge, and the lock is solid.

I ordered Saris 8' cable locks & Blue Ox hitch receiver stabilizer & 15' MasterLock steel cable to use with the recent purchase of the KUAT bike rack and extended double 2" receiver. I tried them out this weekend and all worked GREAT together! The rack and bikes are rock solid going down the road behind the motorhome. My wife followed me and kept watch. She was amazed how stable the bikes were. You can't go wrong with this combination from etrailer.
The Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 bikes was recommended to me from etrailer based on my question about needing a crossbar to haul my bike and my wifes. I did not need the cross bar and went ahead and ordered the Freedom. There was a very fast turnaround for shipping to me. i just installed it and took the two bikes for a test run. so far so good. the product seems very sturdy and didnt take very long to assemble.Thanks to etrailor i am very satisfied with the entire purchase!

Great lock very durable. I don’t think anybody can cut it off less of a special tool. I’m very confident I have my bikes locked up on my vehicle.

fantastic, Glad I chose this cable lock . , I use it around salt water, so just to be safe I spray a little corrosion X in the lock every now and then just for preventative maintenance .
