Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're going to take a quick look at the Jif Marine Telescoping Gunwale ladder. This is going to hook onto your gunwale of your boat so you can get in and out of the water quickly. The nice thing about this is that it's pretty portable and easy to use. I've got the 3-step version. There's also a 4-step.
You can find either one of those here at etrailer.com using those part numbers you see on the screen. So we're going to take a close look. I'm going to give you a bunch of measurements to make sure this is the right size and shape for you. So let's jump right into it.I'm going to come around and show you how this works. So basically you've got the two steps, but then you can actually run this out a little bit further.
So there's a little tab over here on this side, and this just makes it a little bit more portable, so you can reduce a little bit of the space that it takes up, but it does have that design there. So you can bring that down and have your three full steps. Now the bottom step, it is a little bit wobbly compared to the other two. These are pretty solid, pretty sturdy. This last one it just has a little bit of gibs.
So is what it is. It just fits inside that tube there. It should hold your weight though. It should be just fine, but that is something with the operation of those steps. Now, as far as all those measurements that I mentioned, I'm going to run through these with you to make sure that they make sense just because it's a lot of numbers. Oops.
There we go. Okay. So if we go from the top of the deck or the bottom of the hook, that's going to be that first number for the height. And then I also gave it to you from the bottom of the inside of the hook. So whichever way it fits best on your boat, I just wanted to give you that range of what this will fit. Again, it depends on the gunwale style of your boat, how thick it is. If it's going to sit all the way in here or if it's going to be hooked all the way back. So just want to give you that range. But that's going from either that or that point to the top of the bottommost steps. So that's going to give you the total drop that this will give you all the way to that bottom step. Now, for the 4-step, since this has a distance between those rungs of about 10 and three quarter inches, I gave you that additional length there. If we go from the very top of the hook to the very bottom of the unit, that's between 31 and a half and 40 inches, the 31 is whenever it's collapsed up. So this bottom step is back in, whereas the 40 would be, if it's all the way down. If you're looking at the 4-step, it would be about 10 inches more than that for both those measurements. The total depth, whenever we're looking at this going from the wall, so where those little feet sit, that gives you seven inches. So that's from here to there, for our hooks, it's about 13 inches. So that's how much space you've got here. Internally, it's about 10 and a half inches. So this will fit in about 10 and a half inches of space. As far as the outer width, that's going to go side to side here, that's 15 and a half inner width. So the space inside the rungs through the stairs, that's about 15. And then our step width, so the depth there, width there, however you want to look at it, that is two and a half roughly. So I know it's a lot of numbers to digest, but I wanted to give you a good idea of how this works and make sure that it makes sense. So as far as putting this away, it's pretty easy, it's also pretty lightweight. So it's not too hard to move this gunwale around, but the hooks just twist toward the middle. You already saw me bring that bottom step up. And then these little feet just push in place. So that's pretty much it. Should be pretty transportable, pretty lightweight. It is made out of a stainless steel tubing, so that metal should last you quite a long time. You shouldn't really have to worry about too much rust and corrosion. The hooks up here, I do have a vinyl coating and our steps themselves are plastic construction. So hope that this video has been helpful in deciding if this is the right set of stairs for you. We do have a lot of other ladders for your boats and docks here at etrailer.com, along with a lot of other marine stuff. So check us out. Thanks for watching.
