BoatBuckle's second-generation bow tie-down strap bolts to the frame of your trailer and simplifies the securing and unloading of your boat. It is designed to keep constant tension on the strap and requires minimal ratcheting to secure your load. Instead of always having to find and store a tie-down strap that hooks to the tie-down anchors on the front of your boat, you will find that BoatBuckle's bow strap is always right where you need it. Just pull up on the hook and strap, attach the hook to the bow, and then operate the ratchet several times. No more dealing with extra webbing or looking for the tie-down strap. And when unloading, simply push the release button on the ratchet, free the hook from the bow, and let the strap retract back down into the ratchet.

Installation

This strap comes with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install it. It is recommended that you use anti-seize (LT37616 - sold separately) to ensure that the nut is properly tightened down over the bolt. You can mount the ratchet with the included bolt directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, a universal mounting kit (IMF14254 - sold separately) is available.

Note: A bow tie-down should always be used along with a winch strap and a set of transom or gunwale tie-downs. All straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). To determine the maximum load, or break strength, of the strap, simply multiply the WLL by 3. The WLL is always one-third (1/3) of the maximum load.

Excellent product! Very easy to use and install. This boatbuckle will make my boat more secure and take the strain off my new winch!

by:

The Boat Buckle was ok but the bolt that came with it broke off. It threaded on about a half inch and stopped. I tried tightening but the nut broke off .Also i started the nut by hand so it was not cross threaded.

Product delivery went well making this purchase the right choice. The retractable tie-down strap is well made, easy to use and easy to install. I have two on the stern of my boat trailer that I like much so went with the bow tie-down. I travel long distances with my boat and I want to make sure the bow is secured to the trailer so there is no bouncing. A bow winch strap does not always do the job. Play it safe and get a bow tie-down.

Working great!

by:

Bolt snapped while installing. I also have the transom straps and the same thing happened so I ensured I was extra careful this time around but no luck. This appears to be a common issue since BB provides a stainless steel bolt that is considered "soft" vs. a Grade 5 or 8 bolt. Called customer service and was told to either call the manufacturer or head to the local hardware store to find another bolt.

Frankly! It saved a man's life.

I was having trouble with my boat engine and took it to a local boat repair shop. The boat was taken out by someone for a test ride.

They unhooked the bow line hook at the ramp and the starboard side G2 BoatBuckle tie down. They then pressed the release for the port side, suddenly close to 3800 pounds of boat began to slide quickly off the trailer with them behind it. The boat abruptly slammed to a stop, the BoatBuckle tie down held! There was no time and nowhere to go. Thanks to your Well Built - G2 Retractable BoatBuckle this man's life was saved.

Thank You!

Great ratcheting tie-down design. The only problem I have with it is the bolt and self locking nut that come with it. You can easily screw the nut on until all threads in the nut are engaged, and then it gets tight, very tight. After a few more rounds you are looking for a cheater bar, then a power tool. The bolts are longer than necessary, so you have a lot of thread to tighten the nut onto. On the Stainless Steel bolt and nut, the threads gall and stop any further tightening. I replaced all bolts and nuts with Stainless Steel bolts and nuts, with lock washers, from a local big box hardware store. Because of the issues with the nuts and bolts, this one hour job wound up taking 4-5 hours, and was frustrating to do. I suggest the manufacturer change to issuing lock washers and stop using the self locking design they use now. It is a very real problem in installation. And, no, the three bolts and nuts I assembled were NOT cross threaded. I was able to get a full nut on each bolt by hand without problem before the self locking design tightened up.

by:

As fare as the tie down it is fine, but the mounting bolts not so much first the bolts are 3 inches long ,(to long) i put the nut on by hand and put my wrenches on and started to tighten it and as soon as the locking thread got on the bolt thread it stopped and i could not turn it any more so i put my 1/2 dr air impact to it and it wouldn't move either way on or off ending up cutting off the bolt, poor quality bolt and nut !

The product is a Christmas gift, and your business was recommended to me. The product was originally on back order, but was delivered well before it was expected. Very prompt service, and I will order from this site again. http://www.etrailer.com/static/images/pics/I/M/IMF14393_tn.jpg this site again. Many thanks!

Seems to be a well-made, easy-to-use product that will allow both me and the wife to quickly attach and release our boat to the trailer. Hopefully it will hold up to the Florida elements (salt water, rain, heat, etc.) - great price and super fast shipping from Etrailer, my "go-to" source for all items of this sort.

Snugged up with the lever for perfect alignment, and tightened them up with a wrench. Boat and trailer is as snug as bug in a rug!

by:

Bolt and nut that comes with it are not the same thread size, it's good enough to get going then seriously snags up and had to be sawed off and purchase seperate hardware... there are multiple reviewers with the exact same issue, I'd have expected etrailer to have looked into this already. Apart from the bolt issue, the unit works flawlessly.

I was annoyed at hooking a ratchet strap on one side of the trailer, then feeding the strap over the back of the boat and hooking and ratcheting the boat down.
The gunwale RETRACTABLE straps are perfect!!!!! The gunwale straps are easy to install, retractable ( so when not in use store themselves ) . When I am ready to use them I just pull the straps up and hook the gunwale on each side and ratchet them down.
Great product, worth the investment!!!

by:

These are simply amazing. So much easier and quicker than straps. And easier on cold freezing wet hands. I welded them to the trailer as some report they’ve been stolen while they’re out on the water.

by:

Awesome tie down. I'm a hot air balloon pilot and use the tie downs to secure my basket / cart in my trailer.

by:

With 2 waverunners on a trailer, this is a game changer for us for lake prep and post-lake for the trip home. Highly recommend these

by:

Bought these a year ago and they’ve held up great. They seem much more durable and rust resistant than the ones that came with the trailer originally. Only challenge I had was that the supplied bolts were a higher gauge and wouldn’t fit in the holes for my trailer. Rather than drill, I was able to use my originals. Obviously not something that’s a product problem, just mentioning it in case it can save somebody some time in the future.

These BoatBuckles are great - easy to use and firmly hold my boat on the trailer, way better than the old strap system!

  • Difference Between the Ratchet Straps # IMF14393 and the # IMF14256
Realistically the only difference between the part # IMF14393 and the # IMF14256 is that the part # IMF14256 is sold in pairs and the part # IMF14393 is sold individually. Aside from that they have different intended uses but realistically they are the same ratchet setups. The pair is described as being for transom straps and the single is for the bow of the trailer.

  • Does Using More than One Boatbuckle G2 Ratchet Strap Allow you to Combine Weight Capacities
Yes, when using more than one of the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down # IMF14393 that you referenced you do get to add the capacity of each together. So when using 4 of these total you would have more than enough capacity for your ATV! I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.

You can certainly use these higher-capacity tie downs instead.

  • Recommended Tie-Down Straps for 2 Yamaha Watercraft
Thanks for the picture. It looks like you have loops connected to the rear of your Yamaha watercraft. These loops would make great tie-down points to connect a strap to secure these watercraft to your trailer. The BoatBuckle Pro Series Transom Tie-Down Straps, # IMF17631, will work well on the rear of your watercraft. This heavy-duty strap will be able to secure the rear of your Yamahas to the trailer. A ratcheting strap should be used on the bow of the your watercraft as the main securing...

  • Tie Down Straps Needed To Secure 10,300LB Boat To Triple Axle Trailer When Hauling
To ensure that you have enough straps for your boat when loaded on your boat trailer you will need to know the weight of both the boat and trailer. Since you are only trying to hold the boat and trailer together you need to ensure that the break strength rating for all of your straps will hold them together. The BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie # IMF14393 has a break strength of 2,500lbs. Pair this with the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratchet Transom Tie-Downs # IMF14256 and...

Yes, the 6' BoatBuckle Mini G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Downs # IMF106877 will work with your boat trailer with 17" from the mounting hole to the stern eye on your trailer. The strap will have a minimum distance of approximately 8" . I would recommend going with the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Tie-Down # IMF14393 as it is constructed of stainless steel. Since this will be bolted to your stern and constantly submerged in water it will hold up better over time. The...

  • Difference Between Working Load Limit and Break Strength for Boat Straps
The working load limit is the safe working load limit for the strap. The max break strength instead is how much weight it will hold right before it breaks. Basically WLL is 1/3 the max break strength. The part # IMF14393 has a 1,500 lb max break strength and a 500 WLL.

The BoatBuckle Pro Series Kwik-Lok Bow Tie-Down Strap # IMF18741 has a working load limit (WLL) of 400 lbs and all straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL); shat this means is you need to have straps that have a WLL at or equal to your jet ski's 890 lbs. So you can use the Tie-Down Strap # IMF18741 if your winch strap had a WLL of 500 lbs. Otherwise you would need to use Strap # IMF14393 which has a WLL of 500 lbs (so your winch strap would need...
