Guide-on posts make it easy to load your boat onto your trailer and back your trailer down the ramp. They attach to the rear of your trailer and extend out of the water, providing visual targets to center the boat between during loading.

Features:

  • Guideposts provide a visual target on your trailer to help you load and unload your boat
    • Extend out of the water to help you center your boat while loading
    • Assist you in backing your trailer down the boat ramp
  • 16-Gauge, pre-galvanized steel posts are strong and durable
  • White PVC pipes slide over steel posts so you can see your submerged trailer
  • Simple installation on rear crossmember of trailer frame with included hardware - no drilling required
    • Adjusts out to 13" from trailer
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 2 boat guide-ons
  • Application: trailer frames up to 3" wide x 4-1/4" tall
    • For frames up to 5-1/4" tall, 2 extra-long U-bolt kits (CE11416 - sold separately) are required
  • Steel post diameter: 1-1/2"
  • PVC post diameter: 2-3/8"
  • Overall height: 40"

Note: Check with your state Department of Transportation for restrictions regarding maximum trailer width.

Guide Your Boat Into and Out of the Water with Ease

When your boat trailer has been backed down the ramp and is partially submerged, these 40" tall guideposts that are mounted on the rear corners of the frame will stick out of the water, giving you 2 highly visible targets to guide your boat between for loading. The PVC pipes also provide a visual aid to help you back your boat trailer down the ramp when you're unloading and loading your boat.

Installation

The posts are simple to install. Slide the PVC pipes over the pre-galvanized steel support posts. Then mount the posts on the top or below the trailer frame, as close to the rear corners as possible. Adjust the posts so that the distance between each post and your boat is less than 1".

Pre-Galvanized Steel

Pre-galvanized steel parts are stamped from a sheet of steel after it has already been galvanized. The edges of pre-galvanized parts often lose their zinc coating during the stamping process. Because of the thinness of the coating (less than 1 mil) and the fact that the edges remain exposed, pre-galvanized parts can begin to oxidize and rust quickly, so it's recommended that they be primed and painted.

Easy to install. Rugged. I can now see where the back of my trailer is at. Was pretty much guesswork before. Also I don't have to think about if it is lined up correctly. A time saver on busy launch pads.

Great. Withstood a Northern Maine winter just fine. Looks like the day I put them on.

by:

Trailer guides were easy to install and have done their job for the last year. No issues with salt water corrosion. Hardware has held up well. Based on the slope of some of the boat ramps that I use, a bit longer guides would help in some situations. Overall an excellent product.

by:

Your guy, Dan posts were easy to order and quick to ship. The instructions covered the installation very well. Shortly after installation I used my trailer and found it to be much easier to trailer-up my boat in a swift running river. I found it much easier to drive it on straight, centralize the boat, and pull it out, compared to previously in that river current.

The products are good quality and well-made. I would highly recommend them.

I have been using the Post system for a year now. I find it very helpful in retrieving my boat. The product is well made and robust. I highly recommend this for all trailer boaters.

by:

these work well. Great backup guides (smaller trailers that can't even be seen by the mirrors or over the tailgate!).....and they are also tough enough to withstand helping guide boats onto the bunks properly....

I wouldn't have a trailer without them anymore....just makes life so much easier/simpler/safer

by:

The specification for this model states it can only reach 13 inches out from the frame but I needed 14 inches for my pontoon. However from the product photos I could see that the vertical arm is longer than the cross arm so I thought I could mount it “upside down” and get the reach I need. Because it is a bargain I took a chance and ordered it. As shown in the photos it worked perfectly. I not only got the extra reach (width) but it also lowered the top of the PVC pipe so it clears my deck which I also wanted. Now I can simply pull the back of the pontoon over until it hits the bumper and it will be centered perfectly. To temporarily provide the visibility needed to back into deep water I simply slide a 5 foot section of half inch PVC pipe inside as shown. It is an excellent product, very heavy duty and I highly recommend it.

Still working great.

works like a charm.

by:

They work as planned but they are not a permanent fixture on my trailer. I take them off to avoid theft at the launch ramp. They would be better if holes were drilled through the pvc material and metal uprights and you provided a bolt to secure them permanently.

by:

These guides save me a lot of trouble by getting the boat lined up properly on the trailer when I’m taking out. Some ramps are steep but the height of these guides works with them too. It was a good purchase!

by:

So far, I only used my boat a hand fill of times since I installed the guides on to my boat and they worked great. It was so easy to get the boat onto the trailer. All I did is guide the boat to the front roller and use the trailer winch to bring it in the rest of the way (about 5ft.) so easy. And the post-style guide-ons kept the back of the boat lined up with the rear roller. I have a 16ft aluminum V-bottom boat with a 15 hp motor, works great for me.

by:

Only had to load boat on trailer once since I installed them but worked great.

by:

Fast delivery & everything appears to be in the box, however, I did not install the product on my boat trailer as yet. Looks like very good quality of materials.

The product has held up fine with absolutely no problems what-so-ever! Well worth the price.

by:

I like them very much. It’s much easier to see my trailer when backing it into the water to pick up my boat. The only thing I don’t like is, they seem to be shaking a lot in my rearview mirrors, even though I’ve tightened them as much as I can, but it doesn’t hurt anything.

by:

Parts bag was open in shipping box, box was not sealed properly, hardware was missing from order.

Oh my goodness! I am sorry that it arrived this way. We can get you a replacement sent out. Please keep an eye out for an email from us.

by:

Easy to install. Helpful to guide boat on the trailer, especially when there’s current at the ramp.

by:

Every boat owner needs these on the tra iler!

by:

I have a 20' pontoon boat that is a bear to load up. I put a set of these guides on the aft end of the trailer and it made a huge difference. I am planning on getting a set for the front of the trailer to make it even easier. I did have to turn the metal bracket around to get more width and buy longer PVC, but no complaints here.

by:

The trailer guides are extremely well constructed. Video online is helpful. The printed directions and the printing on box offer visual help as well. Be sure your end caps are in the direction you want, as they are very difficult to remove once placed. Heads up... The guides inch closer to the boat as you tighten the front bolts.
Take note of that, as my boat is widest in the middle, and one inch of clearance in the back would not be enough clearance for the middle of the boat. Highly recommend product, can't wait to try them!

by:

I bought these last year on two different boats. I love them. One is a 14’ John boat and the other a Tahoe T16. It works great on both boats. I’ve hit the rails pretty good with the bigger boat and it has held up perfectly. Highly recommend.

by:

I don’t think the shackles, bolts and other steel parts have sufficient galvanization to prevent salt water corrosion but I may be wrong. Time will tell. Other than that, it looks pretty good.

by:

Easy installation
Works great

by:

Easy to install these well made guides. These keep the back of the boat from being blown sideways, and in my case, allow me to see my narrow little boat when I’m backing up, or just driving down the road. I had an extra set of trailer lights that weren’t really good enough to submerge, so after I finished installing these I attached these lights to the PVC top cap, then just ran the wires down and connected to my existing wiring. Now I can really see, and be seen. Please note that the lights in my image DO NOT come with these.

My trailer has very skinny rails open on one side. If yours is this way, I advise cutting a block of pressure treated wood to just fit in the rail with a few hammer blows. Otherwise the shackles of these guides will bend the open ends inward, causing them to loosen. This isn’t a problem with this product, it’s just my cheapo trailer not being made of 4 sided box channel. Everything still looks new!

by:

Great product made in the USA. I use them on all my boats since it is a perfect guide for loading and unloading boats with a trailer.

by:

Great products....the posts, lights, and plug all were shipped quickly and easy to install. Finally have my lights up high and out of the water. I used 3 wire extension cord to run uncut lines from the lights to the plug at front of trailer. Should protect against corrosion issues. Pictures of my install are attached.

Thanks

James

This has worked out well. Lights and connections never touch the salt water. I did the same thing on the trailer for 25 center console.

by:

Absolutely love the guide on especially when backing your trailer in without the boat and you can’t see the trailer. Highly recommend them. It would be great if they came with reflector strips for travel.

by:

Items were accurately described, and installation went well. Good addition to the trailer.

The edges of the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27620 should in fact be painted for superior protection. You can simply use a spray paint from a local hardware / paint store, or for the best protection you can start off with rust-preventive primer as you mentioned, then follow it up with a good coat of paint.
