Use this actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic drum brakes and 3x3 or 3x4 straight tongue.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Primed finish
  • Weld-on installation
  • Manual lockout kit sold separately
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic drum brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Mounting: 3" x 3" or 3" x 4" straight tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

Product specs are right on. Well built.

by:

Was exactly what I was expecting, good quality, a fair price, and will fit right on my trailer tongue.
Good job!!!

Paul is awesome!!
I was very pleased
with the way he handled the order. I was going to order it online but he suggested that he could possibly have it delivered in 3-4 days. Actually it was delivered in 24 hours.
I thought [other retailers] were quick about deliveries till I ordered from etrailer.
The coupler and the brake actuator fit perfectly and definitely was a great replacement from the Atwood coupler.
Thanks. Paul.

I ordered late Tuesday evening. It shipped on Wednesday, arrived Friday and my boat trailer was fixed by Friday evening. Product was exactly as advertised and the perfect replacement for my damaged one. Quick and accurate shipping had me back out fishing by the weekend. Very impressed with etrailer service levels.

Updating my old surge brake coupler, I really like this Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K fits 3”x4”trailer tongue, it was easy to install, I did have to drill new holes, I just wish the manufacturer would have included the bolts and the information on how much to torque the bolts to, it’s about “2 drop from my old coupler. etrailer was super fast with shipping !

by:

Delivery was very fast. Quality seems very good. Installation was super easy since my Shorelander swing tongue trailer has this standard hole pattern. I love how it looks and the extra foot of distance I get between the boat and my tow vehicle (so less chance of needing to get my feet wet or crawl through the SUV).

by:

Initially receiving The actuator it was missing the cap that covered the rubber plug to the hydraulic reservoir and the manual lockout key, but after contacting etrailer , they quickly sent out the parts. The hitch was easy to install, and it works as it should.

by:

Pros.

Works great really noticed
the difference right away.

Ed W. with etrailer was great to work with helped determine which one to get.

It was a fairly simple install.

Con.

The reverse lockout was further away than my original, just a little, so my brake line was too short.

Auto parts places didn't have a flex that fit the thread. I was doing this on a Sunday so I had to drive across town to a trailer guy who was open for a flex line.

I would give it 4.7 stars if I could would of gave a 5 star had they included a short flex line with the kit.

It's about a 2 hour job with everything you need I spent an extra 2+hours getting a part.

All in all been using for a year and I am completely satisfied.

Great replacement for a damaged actuator. A plan came together and it don't get much better.

by:

The actuator arrived within two days after purchase. It fit perfectly as a replacement. Worked as it should. The top plastic cap was damaged during shipping. The staff were happy to send me a replacement. I am happy doing business with etrailer. Thanks a lot.

by:

I installed this brake actuator on a 3500 lb boat trailer with drum brakes, is working great so far. Needed to replace the existing broken hitch on my trailer and this was a suitable replacement to get the brakes working again.

by:

Finished drum to disc brake conversion on my 1993 year model Bass Cat trailer. Installation went smoothly and the UFP-A60 Actuator replaced the obsolete Atwood Actuator. Shortened the outer member a bit and added a 1" flat bar to the bottom for welding of 4" channel trailer frame.

by:

Fit my Karavan trailer well. Though, the top to mounting bolt holes were perfect, the lower holes did not align with the existing holes in the trailer. Had to drill both these through with a 1/2" bit. Then, mounted perfectly. Also, the brake line and blue/white wires hooked right up.

by:

Worked perfect rebuilding a 1990 boat trailer with drum brakes. The updated coupler is so much easier to use. Bolted on and brake lines conntected with no modifications.

by:

The actuator is an exact match for the one I have. As per your video, I will be able to replace the inner workings and hook up the existing brake line and wiring. The quality is excellent and the price was amazing. Very quick shipping,I live in Canada. I ordered it on Monday and it was in my driveway this morning on Friday. Very pleased doing business with etrailer. Thank you

Talked to an "expert"...expert recommended this actuator, based on my 3"×5" trailer tubing. Your "experts" need to learn to ask more questions, as i was puzzled as to how to install it...in showing pictures to your ONLINE experts, he suggested a very slightly different product, strangely with the same midel # but different bolt pattern. I am very frustrated with etrailer

by:

It’s a great looking product. I will need to find the fitting to connect the electric lockout solenoid…

by:

Fast delivery,no shipping damage! Direct replacement for my Magictilt boat trailer.

We are a trailer repair company. We purchase the actuators for our customers. But we have had a lot of experience dealing with Dexter/UFP products. We try to only buy the best products available for our customers. That is why we buy Dexter/UFP products on a regular basis.

by:

Perfect fit for my boat trailer. Only complaint is the surge brake backup plug is not attached by a stainless steel cable. It’s just loose so I have to keep track of it so I can use it when backing up a grade.

by:

Shipping was quick and it was packaged nicely. Exact fit for my 2013 single axel Karavan trailer.

by:

I only used the surge brake, that was an easy replacement in my trailer.

by:

Exactly what I needed. Fit perfectly and easy to install.

by:

By far the best service in the industry! Everything fits as it should.

  • Replacement Hydraulic Drum Brakes, Hub/Drum, and A-60 Actuator for 3,500 lb Axles on Boat Trailer
We have exactly what you're needing! For replacing your hub/drum assemblies you need the kit # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (2 per axle) and then for the brakes you need the kit # AKFBBRK-35-D (1 per axle). The actuator is a little different simply because there are multiple styles for installing the actuator on your trailer coupler so you'll want to look through these options to see which A-60 best matches your current A-60 actuator: - Top Mount 3-Bolt # 099-175-00 - Top Mount 3-Bolt # DX33FR ...

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator To Replace TDE LP7000 On a 2007 Four Winns Boat Trailer
Your TDE model LP7000 surge brake actuator will need to be entirely replaced as the master cylinder is no longer available for it. With this unique style coupler you will need either a Disc # DX63FR or Drum # DX53FR brake actuator which will need to be welded on. This will replace your entire actuator assembly and a portion of your trailers tongue.

  • Solution for Brake Actuator on 3-1/2" Trailer Tongue
For a brake actuator that will fit your 3-1/2" tongue you will need a weld-on model. None of the bolt-on will fit a 3-1/2" tongue as you said. I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL # DX43FR if you have disc brakes or the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 # DX53FR for drum brakes. These are technically listed for a 3" wide tongue as well but that won't matter with welding. Make sure to take them to a certified welder for installation. You will also need to add the # T4748800 if you're getting the drum brake...

  • Can a Surge Brake Coupler Be Replaced With a Curt No Latch On a Mastercraft Trailer?
Based on some information I could find I believe you currently have a actuator like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX53FR on your Mastercraft trailer. To switch to a Curt QuickPin No-Latch Trailer Coupler # C54UR you will need to ensure your trailer will not exceed 3,500lbs when fully loaded. You will also need to verify with your local laws your trailer is being legally operated as many laws will require trailer brakes if over a certain weight no matter how far you tow. Since...

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

  • Difference Between Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuators
Hi Bill, So the difference between the two DX7.5L A-60 brake actuators is just that one is for trailers with disc brakes and the other is for trailers with drum brakes: - Drum Brakes: Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX53FR - Disc Brakes: Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX73FR So you'll just want the one that is for the type of brakes you have on your boat trailer. Disc brakes require more psi from the master cylinder in the actuator than drum brakes, so that's what the internal...
