When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Not a fan because of the screw down and up for ball attachment. Unit Itself works great.

Very good and easy to install on my 1998 boat trailer. Not a fan of the screw down coupler but thats a minor issue....

by:

I absolutely hate the twist lock on it. Received this twist lock style instead of what was pictured with a flip latch. Called to speak my piece about it and was told it was all they had. Now I'm stuck with it. I hate it!

by:

Direct Bolt on, better than welding. Surge Brake Line connected just fine. Bled Brakes. Test drive was successful. What more could you ask for. I chose the hand tightening knob over the Lever because it was more assuring to me that it was tight on the ball and the locking mechanism has never failed. I have used Titan surge actuators for 40 years. I am using this actuator on a 4,000 lbs. boat and trailer. On my way to the lake!

by:

It was late in the day when order this I had my doubts that it would be delivered the next day and it was install took about an hour took the longest was to bleed the brakes

by:

Bolted right on with no problem. Now to pull off the hubs and check the wheel cylinders

by:

This is an inferior product as it has no opening to pump brake fluid for bleeding brakes like better actuators. You must use a 2X4 or other items to pump actuator. Also, better actuators have auto lock with locking pin for securing to towing ball rather than a screw down. This actuator is outdated and I replaced it with a better product.

by:

Great product works great on my boat trailer

by:

Bolted right onto the trailer. No instructions and the link on the web sit didn't work but what do you need for two bolts. Wouldn't have minded some guidance with bleeding the brakes but got it done anyway.
Greatly improved the towing of my boat trailer!
Good price. Shipping good. What else would you want!?

Well, it worked great till I sold the boat last October. Shocked about the follow-up! Wow

Fast delivery & looks like the right brake actuator will install later this spring boat in storage. Very good service will recommend my friends to your company. Thanks for your help David Castle

Its working great replaced my 26 year old brake actuator

by:

Excellent product. This was almost an exact replacement for the original one that was on my boat trailer. I had the boat out about once a week this summer and the actuator worked perfectly. Braking was smooth and it locks down easily on the hitch ball. I highly recommend this actuator.

by:

Product was as ordered. Shipped promptly. Only been used two times and works fine

Still works as it should

by:

So far it looks like it will work. We have yet to install it.

by:

This product perfectly replaced my tongue master cylinder on my 1992 Capri boat trailer. It bolted right up and the brake line thread was the same. It was super easy. It is a huge improvement!

by:

Perfect replacement for my existing brake. I'm using this brake coupled with the Titan actuator W/reverse lockout solenoid since there is no manual lockout and I don't have free backing brakes.

by:

Excellent value, great heavy duty product, fast and easy installation, perfect fit.
Can't ask for more!

by:

The master cylinder leaks around the ca p.

You mentioned that the master cylinder is leaking around the cap. I suggest replacing the cap and we do have it available. It is part # T4480701 on our site.

I cannot say enough about etrailer!! I ordered my part at a much cheaper price than I would have paid locally, it was mailed the same day and I got it three days later!! When ordering, I spoke to Shawn who was very professional and very precise in my wishes......she made me feel like a very valuable customer!! The part arrived in perfect shape and was easy to install. I would not hesitate to order from etrailer again!! Keep up the good work!!

by:

Very easy to install, I took the old unit off and had the new one installed in less than an hour. I hooked the trailer to my truck and primed the Hydraulic cylinder before I attached the brake line. No problems.

by:

Just as shown online product fit perfect great to see a company that has great service and low prices. I will buy again when I need something. Brake actuator looks exactly like my old one saved a lot of time and money.

by:

good stuff, nice product, shipped fast, exact fit / this is just what I wanted I had questions called and asked and got answers / the price couldn't be beat I tried other on line and local stores / am a happy camper I would buy here again.

by:

The part was a perfect fit and the service was prompt and friendly. I had a question and the person on live chat was friendly and helpful. I would definitely use etrailer again

by:

delivered early, sound packaging. item is as described and shown. Will definitely reorder from e-trailer. Thank You

by:

Seems to be what I needed to have replaced, was easy to install. Only problem, NO instructions. I did find video suggestions online.

by:

Arrived corroded and not functioning properly. I had to disassemble and clean the rust that was on the inside of the fluid reservoir and the piston. I would have sent back but I needed it at the time. The piston was frozen. It took some time for me to figure this out.

  • 7,000 lb Hyudraulic Actuator for Drum Trailer Brakes with Trailer Brake Lock Out for Backing Up
The Titan Brake Actuator, # T43397007K, that you referenced does not include a lockout system for backing your trailer. If you have a surge brake actuator that works well but doesn't have an electric lockout solenoid, # T4748800, can be added to allow you to back the trailer the same as adding it would work with the new actuator. Along with the solenoid you will need a shield, # T4835800183, to protect the solenoid from damage, and you will need to upgrade the 4-Way connector on your...

The # 8-247-50UC3-EZ and # AKHD-545-35-G-EZ-K will both fit and work with your 13" wheels. These are also compatible with the # 40716-15 from your previous question. For the most part it comes down to cost between the two hub/drum assemblies. However, since this will be going in the water on your boat trailer I would stick with the Dexter which has the 500-hour salt spray rating. The Hydraulic Brake Kit # AKFBBRK-35-D will work with your 13" wheels but I would stick with the Demco. The...

That said, you will need to add the Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators part # T4748800 as well. For drum brakes I recommend the Titan Brake Actuator with Manual Lockout - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - 7,500 lbs # T63FR which is the only actuator we offer for a 2" ball that has the manual lockout you were wanting. This actuator bolts on to 3" wide channel tongues and has a 750lb tongue weight rating and 7500lb trailer weight rating. If your trailer has disc brakes I recommend the Dexter DX7.5...
