Video Transcript for Review of Pacer Performance Vehicle Lights - Roof Lamp - PP20-230

Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Pacer Performance High Five Truck Cab Light Kit. Now this is going to give us the basic components of what we need to add the lights to the top of our cab. It's going to give us that big rig look and also help to make our truck more visible to other drivers out on the road. That's going to be especially important whenever we're going through any kind of inclement weather.

We're out there on a dark highway, no lights around, so it helps to make us more visible, especially for going through a foggy area, heavy rain, snow or anything like that.So we'll get our five lights, the sockets to hold our bulbs. These are going to be a Type 194 incandescent bulb. We also get the wiring harness, quick splice connectors, the screws for our lights and some O rings to go beneath the head of that to make sure that the water gets in there, the screws to hold our switch and the switch itself. So just about everything that you need to get this installed. If I we're putting it on my truck, I would want a couple extra things and I'll go over those with you in a minute. These lights are styled after the 1994 through 1998 Dodge factory roof lights, so you don't necessarily have to put them on a Dodge, but it's just mimics that OEM style. One big thing to mention with this install, you are going to have to drill into your truck.

There's just no way around that with getting these in place. For each of those lights to get mounted, it's going to have two holes on either side where those screws go down in. So you will have to make a little hole for each of those to get in place and then you'll probably want to make a third for your wiring to drop down into there as well. So if that's a deal breaker for you, just letting you know that right upfront that you do have to make some modifications to your truck to get these in place. Now it does come with this little foam gasket. It's just kind of a dense foam piece.

Bring that up closer to the camera. You can see what I'm talking about. It's going to help to seal that up to make sure that no water gets in there. But if it we're me, again, I would probably want to grab some silicone sealant just as an added precaution. You don't want any water getting into the headliner of your vehicle.

You don't want to have to deal with flooding issues, so that's just something that I would add in there. Once this is tightened down pretty close to your roof line, it should smush around there and hold tight. It's just kind of give you the warm and fuzzies to add a little silicone in there. But especially for that a wiring connection, just to be double sure that it's not going to have any water seepage into the light housing. As far as how this is going to go together, I'm going to put one of these bulbs in place. You can just push it into this little socket and this bulb type, you can actually find LED bulbs, just going to get my fingerprints off of this, that match up with that. You can find them sold separately here at etrailer.com. They should look something like this. There's also a kit that's just like this that includes these. That would be part number PP20-231 and it's going to come with everything you see including those LEDs. So if that's something that you want to go for, I would highly suggest it because those LEDs are probably going to last a bit longer than the incandescent bolt, but totally up to you.So we're just getting that in place. Turn it about a quarter of a turn. I'm going to turn on my power supply here and we can look at that light to see how bright it is. Connecting my ground, that little black wire with the ring terminal on it. And then my power is going to go to this red wire. So you can see our light comes on there. So these aren't super, super bright. They're really just there to provide that extra visibility in the dark, but they're not going to light up the night or anything. I'm going to turn the lights out in the studio so you can get a better idea of what that looks like. So bright enough that we'll be able to see it but not so bright that we're going to blind anybody while we're out on the road. The incandescent bulbs are a little bit dimmer than the LEDs but not a whole lot dimmer. The main advantage with having the LEDs is that you don't have to worry about the filaments breaking over time. They should last a lot longer and have less of a power draw. But again, totally up to you.For the rest of our install we'll have this wiring length, so we get the fuse that's in line with this kind of short piece. So one end of this is going to go to our switch, has that little spade connector to go on the back of one of those blades there. It matches up. And then on our other piece of wiring is going to have another one of those connectors. So one will go to one end and the other will go there. This will go to our power supply for our trucks, so probably to the positive side of our battery. And then this will connect into our lights. You might need a little bit extra wire, especially for the ground connection for the each of those lights. It does have a ring terminal on that little housing, but you might want to extend it out. You might want to do something different. It's just always a good idea to have extra wire on hand just in case and while you're here it's better to do it beforehand rather than having to grab extra stuff once you're in the middle of your install. The last thing that I would suggest would be to switch out these quick splice connectors. Just in my experience, I've seen a lot of things fail because the KwikSplice has come undone, so I just don't particularly trust them. We've had a lot better experience with heat shrink butt connectors, which are just insulated butt connectors with a heat shrink wrap around them and use a heat gun to shrink them down. They're watertight and it makes a really good connection. You can also just get insulated butt connectors, which are the same thing. They just don't have that heat shrink edition. You can find those here at eachother.com again, but it's just a thing that if it we're me, I would want to have that so I don't have to worry about this little clip coming undone.Whenever you first smush them together, it snaps in there and it holds pretty well, but once those wires in there, it gets pretty tight and sometimes it doesn't always snap. It comes undone. It's just not the best. So they work and if you want to go ahead with it, that's fine. It'll get you going. But just in my experience here, I feel like that's usually the first point of failure for any kind of component that uses those quick splices. So a couple things that I would pick up for that gasket sealant or Silicon gasket, extra wire and some insulated butt connectors. Other than that, you should be good to go. We've got all the screws and hardware. The switch makes it nice. You can operate those lights separate from your lighting system in your vehicle so you don't have to worry about tapping into your factory wiring and voiding any warranties. Of course, if you want to run these with your factory lights so they come on with your running lights, that's your choice, but they do include the switch so you don't have to do that if you don't want to.It does meet all SAE specifications as far as the light size. Each one of these is going to be the same size, so it's about 3 inches wide, maybe 3 1/8 inch wide by about 3 1/4. If we want to get real exact, maybe 13/16, 3 13/16, and then the height is about 1 1/2 inches tall. The distance between those two mounting holes, center to center, it's about 1 3/4 inches. All in all, pretty straight forward install. You just have to be patient and make sure that you measure everything to get everything lined up really nice and straight before you do any drilling, but that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the Pacer Performance High Five Truck Cab Light Kit. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding whether or not this is going to be the right kit for you. Thanks for watching.

Lights and everything arrived quickly, everything needed was in the packaging. The only thing I did differently was I wired the lights into my existing light switch instead of a separate switch, just bought 16 gauge wire from hardware store. I added some t10 LED lights which look awesome at night! During the day LED or incandescent bulbs are not very visible anyway. Overall awesome product!

After reading not so good reviews on other cab lights I found these and saw nothing but good things about them and when I had them installed I was more than happy with them. I would recommend to anyone wanting to put cab lights on their truck

Review from a similar Hi-Five in Cab Lights

Look good on the truck, one of the center lights became loose so it was not making great contact and therefore was out. I got it working again, but it was a hassle taking the light off the truck to just spin the light a little bit.

Comments
I have not had any major issues with the cab lights other than the initial issue stated in my first review. I am happy with the lights, and would get them again.

fairly quick shipping..my truck has never had lights...but have installed them on every truck I've owned ( 4 ), This is my 5th. Everything was in the box. It even came with little washers for the screw heads. I used silicone just in case. I was very skeptical of the supplied ground wires but they all worked!!.. I decided on the old style bulbs this time. Might switch if they don't last then I will go to the LED's. I used a different toggle switch than the one supplied. Really like the set so far. I have never seen a truck like mine with cab lights. Maybe others will try it now?

Review from a similar Hi-Five in Cab Lights

One year on, these lights are holding up very well. Installation was pretty simple, I did have to break out a drill to enlarge the factory holes - I believe the factory lights used sheet metal screws to attach to the top of the cab through the lens and these use a metal stud attached to the light base with a nut that tightens from inside the cab (it's been a year and my memory is fuzzy). Outwards though these lights look completely stock. They sealed well and I've experienced no issues with water leaks. 100% suggest these to anyone wanting to replace or upgrade their stock lights to LED while retained the OE look.

price was good and delivery was right on. reason for 4 stars not 5 is the package needed some tape, when it was delivered it was open but it looks like everything is sealed in a plastic bag inside. thank you!

Your better off buying the mopar replacements instead of going the cheaper route. They constantly filled up with water, about an inch or more in some of them. Never got into the cab because I sealed it correctly with silicone. I took them off about 3 times to get all the water out and even tried applying silicone to the part where the bulb twists in to the housing. Still leaked. Tried silicone around the entire light, still leaked. I decided to check out the molding and it’s actually 2 pieces, so there is a seam all the way around that leaked in 3 of 5 of the lights. I put silicone there, now there good, no leaks. Otherwise kit was great, didnt use the splice connectors, i soldered. Do yourself a favor and get mopar lenses

Great product, I replaced existing lights with these. Hole pattern was exactly the same as my old lights. I had two issues not related to the product. My old lights only had one wire through the cab. They had a jumper wire that went from bulb socket to mounting screw for the light.
As far as replacing existing lights goes, this product is great.
For a complaint, the instructions nor video showed me what the little rubber washers were for. Since there were 10 of these I assumed they were for the mounting screws. I used mine for lens cover screws.
I also used silicone under foam pad, on top of foam pad, on mounting screws, and after install was complete I added it at base of lens and around base of light. All not needed but cant hurt to keep water out.

Definitely reccomend this companies products.

Review from a similar Hi-Five in Cab Lights

The Pacer Performance High-5 lights on my 1992 Ford F350 are high quality. They fit the original screw holes perfectly. The LED lights are bright. The wire connectors were different, but that was no problem. I cut off the connectors and used crimp-on connectors, then taped the connections securely with electrical tape.

Review from a similar Hi-Five in Cab Lights

I really do like the look of theses lights. They were pretty simple to install. However I really wish the LED bulbs were brighter. They are just a tad bit weak I’d say. Another thing is that the bulb housing doesn’t really fit in the main housing very well. It took some work and finesse just to piece them together. One last thing is that it would have been nice to have a housing designer so that the light from the bulb could be seen from behind. As they stand you can barely see the light from the side and the back is totally blocked. Just some humble suggestions for the future

Review from a similar Hi-Five in Cab Lights

The lights were purchased as replacement for the existing lights already on the truck, so all the hard work of drilling the holes and running the wiring was already done. What little installation I had to do was fairly easy, and simple. The lights match the originals exactly and you can't tell them apart from the old ones. The package was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged within a few days. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the order and I will be using your company for future purchases and I will definitely recommend your company to other people who need the type of things you supply.

Not a bad product. Although, the lens is not well glued to the base, and the plastic is of not great quality. However, if you’re looking for an OEM look, this product is what you’re after. It was a direct replacement for my 2005 GMC 2500HD.

Bought these lights about a year ago and they look and work great! The lighting makes a perfect red and they are very bright as well, but that can depend on the bulbs you decide to use. Easy installation too!

The smoked lens look great! On my 2017 black 3500 RAM. Install took about 45 minutes. LED bulbs need to go the right way to work. Shipping was quick, and thanks to Jason and everyone at etrailer for making the ordering process easy.

Lights exactly as described. Package came with both LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs. Easy to install. I watched the installation video which was very helpful. I only installed 4 as my vintage truck has a middle rotating beacon.
