Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Trimax Combination Lock with Retractable Cable

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Trimax retractable cable with resettable combination lock. This retractable cable lock is ideal for securing your skis, your helmets, jackets, briefcase, backpacks, snowboards and more. This is gonna be great to just keep on hand or keep in your car for that time that you're going to need a quick way to secure something. That's gonna be very convenient to keep in your car or your backpack.

This cable length can be adjusted in and out by use of this trigger button here. So as we have it right now, when it's not in use, that cable is locked in. It's not going to accidentally come out of the cable lock itself. But once you push that trigger button down, you're gonna be able to pull out this cable to use. And then once you release that trigger, that cable is going to be locked in at the length that you pulled out.

Now, the total cable length is three feet long and the cable diameter is one-eighth of an inch. And the double locking mechanism is theft resistant. And this durable, braided cable retracts into this cable lock that is sitting right at about four inches tall. And it's gonna especially be four inches tall when we have this, we'll reset this here, when it's not in use and the end of that cable is sticking up. So overall, this is sitting right at about four inches tall.

Now, the cable return mechanism is spring loaded, so you always wanna make sure that you hold the cable to avoid possible rebound. So for instance, when you're retracting that cable back into the cable lock itself, it's a good idea just to kinda hold onto that cable so it doesn't swing back in either direction possibly hurting your hand or anything else. So just hold onto that cable when you are retracting it. This features a four-digit combination that's going to be easy to set and can be easily reprogrammed as needed. So this is going to come to you with the combination set at all zeros.

But to reset this combination to your personal combination, you wanna make sure that it's not in use and the cable is retracted back into the cable lock itself. And you're going to push down and hold this button here on the side. And then I'm just going to set the combination to something easy that I can remember 1234. So that's gonna be my new combination. I'm going to let go of that button and so that combination is set and then I'm just going to push in the trigger button, pull out some length of cable and then lock it into the cable lock itself. And I'm just going to change the combination by one number. And as you can see, we are locked into place. So when you have this cable pulled out from the cable lock and then you secure your helmet or skis or whatever with this and then you lock it into the cable lock itself, then you're not going to be able to retract this while it's locked into place. So your trigger button is gonna be locked. And then once you have that combination scrambled, then your release button is gonna be locked as well. So I'm gonna go ahead and set this back to my combination 1234 and now it is unlocked. Hold onto the cable, hit the trigger button and then that is going to retract back into place. So that combination can only be set when this is not in use. This does have a limited lifetime warranty. And again, I think this is gonna be something good just to, as I said earlier, keep in your car, keep in your backpack, keep on your bike. And if you find that you need to lock something up quickly, you have three feet of cable here that you can use to lock something up in a pinch and you can be confident that it'll be secure while you walk away from it or you leave it unattended for a while. So this is a great little lock to have on hand. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

The lock is easy to reset, and will keep the casual thief out of my jerry can rack.

This cable lock has been up and down the back woods of Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas with nary a hitch. A little water, followed by a squirt of WD-40 keeps it doing its job of locking up my jerry cans of fuel.

Cheap plastic thing that is useless if you have a hammer. It was a free gift with purchase. I'm not sure what to do with it.

  • Solution for Locking Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch To Prevent Theft
The design of the Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # GY73XR doesn't really allow for much in the way of security. The only thing you can really do is replace the safety pin that secures the T-handle with a lock. This would prevent anyone from lifting the handle which is required to remove the adapter. I wasn't able to get the diameter of the hole but you might be able to get a coupler lock with a 1/4" diameter through there like the Master Lock # 2847DAT. The only other option would be to...
