Ground Control Applications

Note: Determine where these jacks will be mounted on your trailer. Use this system if there will be 20' or less between the center of the landing gear footpad and the center of the rear jack footpad. If your setup requires more than 20' between the jacks, use the 6-point Ground Control system (LC675817) instead.

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 installed

Leveling your fifth-wheel RV has never been easier thanks to the Ground Control 3.0 electric leveling system. The motorized leveling legs eliminate the need for labor-intensive, manual scissor jacks. And the auto-level feature takes out the guesswork by automatically and precisely leveling your RV. Whether you use the easy-to-use touchpad or the touchscreen remote, all you have to do is step back and watch as Ground Control 3.0 levels your rig right before your eyes.

Automatic Leveling for Your 5th-Wheel RV

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 touchpad displays Auto Level Success

The auto-level feature provides the easiest, most efficient way to level your rig. With automatic leveling, you don't need to go through the trial and error of referencing levels and manipulating jacks one at a time. Just set the level position (zero-point) once, and the Ground Control 3.0 will bring your RV to that same preset point each time.

When first setting up the Ground Control 3.0 you will need to manually level your RV. With some leveling systems, manipulating the jacks individually can result in damage to your trailer's frame. Ground Control has built-in twist prevention so that you won't have to worry about twisting and damaging your frame.

In addition to automatically leveling your RV, the Ground Control 3.0 can also correctly position your trailer for hookup with the hitch recognition feature. This time-saving function stores your RV's position when you unhook from your tow vehicle so that it can automatically return the RV to that position when you're ready to hitch back up again.

Motorized Jacks with Hall Effect Technology

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 motorized rear jacks and front landing gear

The 4 motorized jacks included with the Ground Control system employ Hall effect technology to precisely and quickly raise and lower your RV. These jacks use sensors to measure the number of motor revolutions per minute instead of amp draw. This allows for more precise control over the motor than you'd have with conventional motorized jacks, which results in more accurate leveling of your trailer.

Manual access ports are located on the bottom and the top of each jack's motor so that the jacks can still be raised or lowered in the event of a power failure. To use these ports you must have a 3/8" drive ratchet and extension (not included). The bottom ports also require a 5/16" socket (not included).

Convenient Operation

Ground Control 3.0 offers 2 convenient ways to level your rig. Whether you use the touchpad or the touchscreen remote, setting up camp is at your fingertips.

Touchpad with Lighted LCD Screen

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 touchpad

The included, easy-to-use touchpad makes leveling your RV as simple as pressing a few buttons. The lighted LCD screen provides helpful prompts and alerts you to the status of the system. There are also indicator lights that let you know what functions are being performed. The touchpad is designed to mount inside of a front-most compartment of your RV. It requires a 3-3/8" wide x 2-3/4" tall cutout in the wall and it secures with the included hardware. Because the touchpad mounts inside the compartment, it will remain protected from the elements while still allowing you to be within viewing distance of your hitch.

Touchscreen Remote

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 touchscreen remote

The included touchscreen remote features a convenient leveling app that lets you operate the Ground Control 3.0 system from up to 50' away. Just sync the remote to the touchpad during installation to ensure that the system is fully integrated. The remote is powered by a long-lasting, non-replaceable lithium-ion battery, and a convenient wall charger is included.

Installation

Upgrading your rig with the Ground Control 3.0 system is simple. The 2 landing gear jacks mount to existing points on your RV and secure with included hardware. The 2 rear jacks come with mounting brackets that bolt onto 8", 10", or 12" I-beam frames with included hardware. Mounting the rear jacks does require drilling. A sensor is also included for the rear jacks. This will be mounted on a crossmember near the rear jacks.

The control module for the system mounts in a compartment under the coach with included hardware. This module has a wiring harness that connects directly to your 12-volt battery. Wiring harnesses are also included that connect the jack motors, rear sensor, and the touchpad to the control module.

The system is not what was advertised, it's better, at least for me. Everything arrived on a pallet in excellent condition, except for the advertised remote. I contacted etrailer and they put a replacement on order which I received a few days later. In the meantime, I tried to place the controller in the mode to sync the remote and see if the remote I had with my RV would sync, but I could not get the controller in that mode to accept a remote. Upon reading the controller label, I noticed it said BT and had a passcode on the side of it, so I downloaded the app and it connected to my phone. It seems the LCI Linc remote is obsolete for my Ground Control 3.0 and it is now using the phone app. Everything seems to work as expected; I'm excited to try everything out this weekend on our first outing. I was able to push a fiberglass push stick from the front basement to where the rear jacks are located without dropping the underbelly and pull all the required cables to the rear of the camper and utilize existing frame holes to bring the connectors out to the rear jacks. I think this will be a nice upgrade to our fifth wheel after our factory landing gear failed.

by:

Installation was straight forward, if time consuming. Only issue was Lippert was changing unit, and I got the control unit for the new system and the remote for the old system. Lippert shipped me the components to use the new app remote, and that works fine.
It's is a great improvement to push a button and wait 5 minutes or so for the camper to be perfectly level instead of backing up, check, pull forward, stack block, backup, rinse and repeat a few more times. Setup is so much easier it is amazing! Highly recommend this product.

Still working great after a year. So convenient to push a button and wait a few minutes, and the camper is level.

@Mark We're happy to hear your # LC358590 leveling system is working well for you!

by:

This package was well put together in one box (275 lbs). The instructions were brief and to the point. No blather. Most of the work was in dropping the underbelly and pulling the 3 wiring harnesses to the rear of the 5th wheel. My trailer had brackets for the 2 rear jacks mounted on the frame and a mounting plate for the rear centerline sensor. This kit included both these items, which are now extra.

The jack system is wonderful to watch as it levels my 5th wheel trailer. Set uppack up is much shorter and accurate. The auto hitch feature is great.

by:

First, the customer service from etrailer is the best that I have ever experienced. I ultimately decided to purchase this system from etrailer, in lieu of the cheaper prices from Amazon and Walmart, because of the excellent pre-sale service from Mr. Jon Griggs. After purchase I had outstanding support from Carol C., Chelsea D., George J. and Trevor Wh.
Second the Lippert system is straightforward to install and works perfectly. I didn't like the self tapping hardware for the rear jack installation, so I used my own grade 8 hardware. Some of the terminology used for the levelling adjustments in the included manual and and stick on labels are not consistent with each other and that which appears on the led display. After some playing around with it, I got it figured out. The included remote control locked up after the initial set-up and can't be cleared. Overall the system works very well and makes uncoupling, levelling and recoupling a breeze.

by:

So far so good but still working on the installation. I had to fabricate a couple of brackets due to my 5th wheel configuration to get a rear sensor and front controller mounted but not a big deal. Over very pleased with quality of jacks. I did receive extra brackets (see picture) that weren’t listed in the material list and I don’t see where they would even mount. I will need to make a phone call about those

Still working perfectly!!! Very pleased with electric jacks and really love the self leveling they do. Well worth the money for what I got in return. Thanks!!!

by:

This is an excellent product! Don't know why I waited so long to purchase. If you have basic mechanical skills you can install this. Took me about 4 hrs to install with the help of a friend to install the landing gear jacks. Had to modify the jack mounting tabs just a little to get them to fit, but not anything a little grinder could'nt handle. Overall, heavy duty, easy to install and a must have for any 5th wheel. Have used it many times without any issues...love it!!!!

by:

Great so far. The only disappointment is that it came with a remote that doesn’t work with the controller. I called LCI and they said the new system controller is not compatible with the remote. Why include the remote at all then?

Heather A.

5/16/2023

Wow that does seem silly Christopher, I completely agree. There has been an ongoing issue with the wrong remotes coming with the new units. I have sent your information to our customer service team and they should reach out to you shortly.

by:

Price, delivery, communication all great. Install was complex on my rig and it is a Lippert frame and chassis. Required a lot of mods on my 2017 Attitude 28SAG. Had to cut away some metal (non structural) to get mounting points on rear jacks. Had to reroute fuel lines to genset. With no access to the left front landing gear, I cut and added an access door and gained bonus storage area. Wiring was a breeze with the nice harnesses, long enough for any size rig. Quiet and fast.
Caution: make sure you mount the Quick Release Pull Pin with the barrel away from the frame: This unit retracts automatically very close to frame and you can bend the pin.
Cons:
Mounting plate for rear sensor was not painted and was rusty. No screws included to mount sensor but listed on parts list. only included 8 frame attacing bolts, install requires 12.
No big deal.
Overall well worth the money and the effort.

by:

I love it. No more leveling blocks to place, love the solid feel while walking around inside, and reconnecting the 5th Wheel could not be easier.
I wish ground clearance when fully retracted could be a inch or so better but acceptable. Installation required some minor modifications on my rig.

Manual control is still working great after 1 year. However the remote battery has died and LCI claims no replacement and another one cost a lot Thats not cool LCI

by:

I haven't used it at the campground yet, but it seemed to work as expected in my shop. Installation was fairly straight forward. I'm 72 years old, and was able to do it by myself.

by:

This is a great upgrade to any 5th wheel and worth every penny. It is some work to install but if you have a little mechanical skills and take your time its no problem!!
Works very well!!

by:

Not as difficult to install as I anticipated. It's pretty cut and dry. Works great.

by:

Installation took me about 16 hours, which includes sealing up the bottom of camper. Had to make a few modifications to trailer, no major problems. So far, works the way advertised. Missing some hardware, made one phone call and company sent out the difference.

by:

awesome product, installed the system in a day,did just as instructions said and no problem, love them when at camping site al I have to do is run them up and drive truck out from under trailer and then press button then step back and they do the rest. this is so much simpler than blocking up the wheels which never is quite level and with these it is always perfectly level. would recommend these for anyone with a 5th wheel as they are easy to use and the unit is very sturdy.

1. This is a tremendous product. Wish we had ordered our fiver with this factory installed. Super happy it was available as an aftermarket product. Works exactly as LCI and etrailer said it would. If you do not have auto-level, get this!
2. etrailer is great. Ordering was simple and the leveling system delivered ahead of schedule. Would rate them as a five-star e-retailer.
3. Both etrailer and LCI said this could be installed directly on my 27.5 RLTS. The supporting installation manuals intimated that as well. And as I am mechanically inclined, that convinced me I could handle the install myself. Once I received the system, that proved not to be the case. The front jacks required modifications to fit and the rear jack mounting brackets were too big for my trailer frame. So, ended up taking my trailer and the leveling system to LCI's Service Center in Indiana to have it installed. That was a cost I was hoping to avoid with the self-install. However, LCI's Service Center and tech department is fantastic. Great customer service and installation.
4. Bottom line, if your are installing yourself, connect with etrailer and LCI and obtain product drawings and dimensions to confirm fit. Or, buy it from etrailer and have it professionally installed at LCI.

Just got everything installed and working. etrailer has excellent customer service reps. When I received my shipment the touchpad, all of the mentioned screws for installing the touchpad and the remote was not included. I called etrailer and they shipped all of the parts out to me (took a week) and I just received the remote today. The install is easy make sure you have good drill bits so you can start a pilot hole before you drill the 5/16th holes for the rear jack mounts. Have someone hold the rear mounting plates and use a piece of chalk to mark your holes drill the top two holes first and mount you plate then drill the rest of the holes. I had more of a problem removing the OEM landing gear than I had installing the new gear. I used wire hangers and zip ties to hold the wire along my trailer. I didn't want to remove the underbelly of the trailer because of the blown in insulation.

Awesome! Best thing that I installed on my RV!

by:

I have had the ground control system which I installed myself for a year now and so far have a couple issues. Mostly a learning curve but once you learn the system it does everything I expected the system to do. The remote control has only one function and that is to raise and lower the jacks. The landing gear button does nothing. Trailer when level still has some motion but it is a minimum. The system does make it easier to level the trailer and reconnect when ready to leave. I like it so far with minimum issues.

Donald B.

6/1/2017

Its working well. Wish there was an upgrade to the remote that the landing gear button would become functional. Other than that i am real pleased.

by:

One of the best investments I ever made! No more running around will level to check for leveling of unit. Just press the auto level and it's magically done! With the large pads and location of rear jacks, the trailer is more stable than the factory manual jacks. Highly recommend the LC358590 for your 5th wheel. Excellent service and technical help from etrailer staff!

Like a Champ

by:

Installation would have been a breeze, but my trailer had a completely sealed under side which offered some challenges. That’s nothing to do with the product. The jacks are amazing, makes setup very easy with the push of a button. Should have installed these years ago.

Mike G.

5/9/2020

Excellent. These self leveling jacks make set up of my 5th wheel trailer a snap. Really like the reconnect mode, no guessing where to set the pin for recouping. Should have installed these years ago.

by:

The Lippert Ground Control auto leveling system is the greatest RV accessory there is for older RVers. This unit was fairly easy to install and with a few changes in the how to guide, it would have been simple. It took about 5 hours to install and wire. We have used the unit about a dozen times since the install and it has been a joy to have. Just push a couple of buttons and do something else while it levels the 5th wheel. The unit memory allows for re hook up with the same few button pushes. The 4 point contact system is ample for the 35 foot 5th wheel, very little movement in a rig with 3 slides weighting in at little over 6.6 tons.

by:

I installed these on our 29 foot Arctic Fox 5th Wheel, installation was moderate on the difficulty scale for someone with the appropriate tools and ability. Quality of the product, fit and finish, and operation are a 10/10. Beautiful system and pre-purchase help from Judy at etrailer was excellent!

I highly recommend this system, no more cranking scissor jacks and excellent stability.

by:

Lippert Components Ground Control 3.0 is the best component I have upgraded on our 5th Wheel. Setup takes 1/4 of the time now and rv is always level. Installing the components took some muscle and skill but you will not regret the end result. We have had them almost a year and used these new legs around 8 times - every time they work perfectly.

by:

First, let me say what a difference. I have a 36 foot 5th wheel and due to the location of the steps I was unable to use the 6 point system. The skid its delivered on is 300 pounds so this hardware is definitely heavy duty. Install time from what I read was between 4-22 hours. Working by myself it was about 12 hours mainly due to issues getting the front jacks out (poor design). if you have basic mechanical skills this is a breeze. A sharp drill bit and a tap and die set will speed up the install on the rear jacks as the self tapping bolts will not cut threads in the drilled holes. A lot of extra wire which is a plus depending on how you have to run the wiring to the jacks. Instructions are easy to follow with pictures to help. Make sure the trailer is level when you hook it up for the first time or your "zero point" will be off. Only negative part of the process was the poor protection for the controller which was smashed inside of the shipping box. etrailer customer service was able to get a replacement out quickly before we left on vacation. Can't wait to leave for vacation and try it in the real world and not just the back yard.

by:

Product has been working great. We do a fair amount of traveling and use the self leveling system often. The only negative part of the system is that the 5th wheel has to be somewhat level to start with. This was explained in the instructions, but it does save time and work.
Glad I installed this system.

  • Should Wood Blocks be Used for Front to Back or Side to Side Leveling
Ideally you want to be as level as possible from front to back and side to side. Since the jacks on the front of the trailer have more range it is typically easier to level front to back. If you needed to use a wood block for leveling you would want to use that for side to side since that direction doesn't have as much room to work with in terms of jack stabilizers.

  • Troubleshooting Blank Screen on Lippert Ground Control Leveling System
Here's what Lippert recommends in your situation with the Lippert Ground Control display. Remove the panel and unplug it from the back. Leave it unplugged for at least 15 minutes so that it loses all of the residual power and is completely shut off. Check to make sure there isn't any corrosion built up anywhere preventing the screen from making a proper connection. After that plug it back in. This should take care of the issue. If it doesn't and you still have a blank display then the control...

  • Does Trailer Battery have to be Fully Charged to Retract Lippert Ground Control Jacks Properly
The RV batteries would have to have enough of a charge for the power draw the motors produce on the Lippert Ground Control system # LC358590 and not necessarily fully charged. It is also possible to run the jacks fully extended and then they can retract properly. This doesn't always work but if the battery is fine and you still have the problem then this might do the trick.

  • Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System Recommendation
For your 13,000 lb GWVR fifth wheel trailer I'd recommend the 4 point Ground Control System part # LC358590. This kit actually has more weight capacity than the 6 point and since it uses 4 jacks instead of 6 which means it's a bit simpler overall and would be just as effective.

  • What Does Out of Stroke Error for Lippert Ground Control Jacks Mean
Have you tried putting wood blocks under the jack to see if the issue is just that the jacks are too high? Normally out of stroke means the jacks basically are topped out and can't extend far enough to level the trailer.

  • Auto Leveling Trailer Jack Recommendation for 2004 Jayco Designer FW
Best option is the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System w Touchpad and Remote # LC358590 that you referenced. This is the nicest auto leveling setup around but it will require you to remove your current trailer jacks. There is no way to convert your jacks to auto level so this is the only route.

  • Lippert Ground Control Does Not Auto Level Properly
To achieve a successful auto level with the Lippert Ground Control part # LC358590, you want to make sure you are trying to auto level on even ground. If you are trying to auto level on uneven ground you will have to relocate the trailer before trying. You may need to reset the zero point as well. If the zero point somehow got changed or was set incorrectly then the auto level feature will not work. The zero point is the programmed point that the trailer will return to each time the auto...

  • Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Auto Leveling System Says Please Wait and Then Shuts Off
I called Lippert Components since this error message doesn't show up in the troubleshooting part of the owner's manual, and my contact said that the problem on your Lippert Ground Control 3.0 # LC358590 is your batteries. If you are testing your batteries while they are plugged in then you will get a false reading. You will want to unplug the batteries and then test them. My contact said that this is a very common call that they get and it is always the batteries.
