Installation

Clamp Examples

Installing these bed-mounted camper tie-downs is simple. First, attach the T-bolts to the bottom interior portion of each tie-down. Place each tie-down on the rail of your truck so that the straight side faces the interior of your bed and the angled side faces the exterior. Adjust the T-bolts until each tie-down sits square on the rail. Then attach the clamp plates to secure the tie-downs to the rails. To do this, position the clamp plate beneath the lip of the side rail so that the lip is between the plate and the straight side of the tie-down. Then insert a carriage bolt on either side of the setup and tighten the nuts on the bolts until the tie-down is securely clamped onto the lip of your bed side rail.

Securing your Camper

Camper w TieDowns

In order to secure your camper to your truck bed, these tie-downs will need to be used in conjunction with a tie-down hardware package consisting of turnbuckles, S-hooks, and chains (TDHP - sold separately). This hardware attaches to the anchors on your camper and to the tie-downs on your truck to keep your camper secure. Once you tighten the turnbuckles appropriately, you will be ready to haul your camper.

These tie-downs worked awesome for our pop up camper on our 1998 F150. Super snug, haven't loosened up or moved on the truck, camper hasn't budged either. I was leary at first not having the camper tied to the frame but now I have total faith in these tie downs.

Purchased the Brophy camper tie down set of four for the Palomino truck camper I just purchased. These are my second set as the first set were sold with my Hallmark camper. Easy to install and hold the camper in the truck with no worries.

No problems. Would buy again. Very easy to take on and off the truck.

If I could give a 3.5 out of 5, I would. These tie-downs serve their purpose, but definitely not recommended for a bigger camper. I would say my camper is average sized. These tie-downs hold my camper in place the majority of the time, some small movements when I'm on rough roads, but nothing too dramatic. Negatives. Two of the four lost the padded backing where the tie down meets the inside of the truck bed. Had to go buy some foam and create my own. They flex quite a bit with a camper the size of mine, wouldn't go down any rough roads.

Fits well on a First Gen Tundra. I was extremely unsure about fitment for my truck but they work great! Install only takes 5-10 minutes. I would definitely recommend. Steel is quite thick and seems very strong.

I received this tie downs on July, and first used it yesterday. My Camper ‘s dry weight is about 1600 lb, and the products are good for my truck camper. The problem was the position where tie downs were fitted on my truck. I tried several times to fitted tie downs to my truck.

- HSSF
by:

These Brophy tie downs have worked great over the past year. I leave the camper on the truck and it is my daily driver as well as RV. The camper weighs in at 1500 dry and about 2000 loaded. I do not do any radical 4x4 but I have taken some backwoods off road logging trails.

Using on 2013 Ford F150 for a smaller cabover. Great quality product, shipped fast, works great. Had to turn bolts around to clear inside of bed. Held camper solidly over rough trails!

by:

As far as I'm concerned these are junk. Wasted my money. Do not mount in proper location on a 2011 Chevy Silverado 6.5' Bed. Because of the design of the bed rail the mounts cannot be installed in the proper locations for securing camper. The photos show the maximum forward and back that these can be mounted. Not at all made for the 6.5 foot bed 2007 or later Siverado. The Black Powder Coated Steel isn't that great either. Paint missing, dinged up from storage and shipping probably.

I bought these for our brand new 2019 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton because no custom options were available. I was happy that they were easy to install, and look great. I’ve used them in the past and have been happy with how they hold campers. Sure I’d rather have custom mounts from the frame, but for the price and because these are my only option that’s what I got. These will work just fine, and I like that I can swap these out on trucks. The one thing I wish was different was that the threaded T handle portion would have a longer option. I had to fancy up a 2”x6” to run inside the side of my p/u bed so they would touch something. As always another great shopping experience with etrailer. They haven’t let me down yet. Especially Lori, what a great customer service rep.

by:

These camper hold-downs appear to be manufactured from good steel stock and should do the job nicely. I did have one piece that was slightly damaged but was not caught when packaged (the damage was not due to shipping). I was able to take a hammer to the bent steel and straighten it sufficiently to use the part. It was a little disappointing however, and should have been caught prior to shipping. Overall I am pleased with the quality and price

Ordered these for my new truck to hold my popup camper. As I haven't put them on yet because it's still winter, end of march it will be prepared to be put on. What I will say about customer service is there is nothing like it. Sent me emails updating everything and tracking. I did take a look at them and they look very heavy duty. I look forward to putting them on and gettin out to camping! I'll provide pictures once I get the chance of putting them on.

Arrived on a rainy day with the box falling apart. Too much heavy steel to be loosely packed. Fortunately, the hardware bag was still there. Some bare metal showing. I had some emails with MacKenzie B. and they were responsive and without asking they offered me a 5% refund for the damage. After my first trip, they performed well on some very bumpy roads. Held strong and didn't move. I did have to re-adjust the lower standoffs after the first week. Taking them on/off is frustrating because the 2 nuts are in the small gap behind the clamp against the inner bed wall. Too tight for all but an open end wrench. 1/6 turn times too many fumbling tries, arg! Also, I was nervous not having a locking feature (lock washer, locknut, etc). I bought 8 locknuts (pinch type) and welded them to the inner plate. Then bought 8 round head hex bolts (grade 8). So now I can install easily with an Allen socket. See pictures. Recommend eTrailer consider this modification.

This rating is for erailers product availability, service and pricing. I have not been able to use the tie-downs yet as I just recv'd them yesterday, but they look stout, and quite heavy duty. Thank you etrailer for the fast service as usual.

- HSSF
by:

Found easy to install, I placed lock washers on the 8 3/8" bolts. Sold at Menards for 89 cents (pkg of 8) not in kit. Placement was a little restrictive with dealer installed bed liner. Takes 30 minutes to install all 4. Great buy.

by:

Good product and well built…..if you don’t off-road. There are obviously a ton of variables with campers and tie down points but these just don’t provide enough opposing tension to keep my camper from sliding around in the bed when I get crossed up off-road. If you stay on the pavement or flat dirt roads, they work great.

First time we’ve ever purchased from this site and I’m pretty impressed. Shipping was really fast. I got notification that my purchase shipped and would be here earlier than it said it would at check out and then it arrived even earlier than that. As for the clamps they were heavy duty, like I couldn’t even pick the package up off the porch when it was delivered haha. We were a little skeptical they would work on our Ford F-150, husband was nervous about the aluminum bed holding up, and that they would actually keep the camper on the truck. Shortly after we got them on and the camper tied down and before we could really test them out at high speeds, my husband had to make an unexpected trip from the mountains to the Midwest. We were nervous but he reports that they’ve held tight and the camper hasn’t budged. I kind of can’t believe they work so well. I’m so happy since I had to do a lot of persuading to buy the camper and he wasn’t about to spend a bunch on frame mounts. We’re very satisfied with etrailer and the Brophy clamps.

These tie downs were a great budget solution in leu of a permanent installation of my camper shell and/or frame mounted tie downs. Aside from needing to plan their placement (they can hang in front of the gas cap if you don't plan it right the first time around... no, I didn't accidentally block my gas cap... maybe I did) and take into consideration they also need a little bit of internal clearance as well, they work just fine. I haven't noticed any cargo shifting nor warping of the truck bed around where they are installed. My camper shell is under 1K lbs and it holds just fine.

Good for slide ins when no other options are available. I saw people complaining about the mounting hardware but this was solely from not understanding how the hardware was intended to be installed.

The product is made from very good stock. They seem to be well built . I had a bit of a problem installing on my truck ,and ended up putting the bolts on the angled support rack in backwards according to the video , which I watched after . The tie downs have not been camper tested yet and I am excited to try them out!

Comments
The tie downs have worked fine for me . I have a smaller pop up pick up camper . I am sure for lighter campers they would work fine . I have seen the product work with two on the front as tie downs and then in the back , the button type bumper mounts in the back . This may be a good way to go for more stability on a larger camper. Although could be a little tighter where tie down pinches to bed sidewall, they work great. They are stout, strong and well made. There is little front to back side to side movement. With a good set of turnbuckles, camper sits good.without fabbing the bracket myself I would highly reccomend .

I installed these hold downs on my 2016 Ram 1500 crew cab pickup. They were an easy install took about 30 minutes with no drilling required. I installed a Tracker 7 foot pop up camper on the truck & they made a good sturdy mount. The camper is only 1000 pounds. I would have rated these 5 stars but the packaging allowed the powder coating to get chips and scratches. They came wrapped in paper & fit loosely in the box allowing them to shift around, allowing parts to bang together. Good heavy duty brackets look to be well made. They are awesome for the price.
