Video Transcript for Hands-On with the GSI Outdoors Troop Camping Cook Set

Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the GSI Outdoors Glacier Troop Cook Set. So this is going to give you everything you see here on the table, plus a mesh storage bag to get you outdoors and camping and cooking with the best of them. So if you've got a big group to feed, like a troupe of campers, this is going to be a great way to go about it. It's a really heavy duty kit without being super heavy itself, weighs about eight pounds. So it's not the lightest kit in the world, but still very packable, very doable, especially if you're not going to be hiking too far or if you don't mind having about 8.4 pounds of weight to carry.

So weight is always an issue with, with hiking and camping. But I think that this set does a really good job of giving you everything you need without being too heavy to actually carry with you.Now as far as what you actually get, you'll get the big pot here, which is an eight liter pot, or 8.5 liter pot, and this one is five liters. And then you also get the skillet. These are all stainless steel. So they're going to wear really well.

It's pretty comparable to what you'd find in your kitchen at home. You've got the bail clamps. You can hang this pretty easily. They do lock together. So that makes it easy so that they're going to stay together.

The lids are nice and big. You can kind of use this big one to cover over the skillet. It's not a perfect fit, but it'll work pretty well if you want to kind of steam stuff inside the skillet itself. So let's take a little closer look at each of these.Whenever you're using the big pots, you want to make sure that you lock out these handles so that they're not just sitting against the pot. That's going to make them super hot and can also lead to premature wear.

So whenever you are using them, if you just want to pull them in, so that they're going to kind of rest like that. So that'll make it easier to get a handle on those and just make sure that they're up and out of the way. Same thing for our smaller pot as well.So again, this is the 8.5 liter and something I like that's a nice little detail here is that they do have some approximate measurements that are actually printed into the side of each of those pans. So it just kind of helps to give you a quick guide as far as how much volume you're putting inside. So especially if you want to do rice or beans or water in there and measure it just in the pan without having to dirty another utensil. And the smaller pot has that same feature, so that's just something I think that's kind of neat. They do have a nice rounded bottom. So it's going to make them easier to clean, easier to make sure that there's no food caught in that little corner there. They are stainless steel, so don't have any worries about any scratching or abrasions. There's no coating on these that can flake off and get into your food and cause issues in that regard. It's pretty easy to nest all this stuff together so I'll show you how to do that. So big pots going to hold pretty much everything. Want to make sure that our handles are pulled all the way out now. And as flat to the side as you can get them and they might kind of push in as you seat that down into the pot. That's okay. Just going to turn it a little bit just to get it away from the rivets. There we go. So now that seated down in there, and then I'm just going to take my lid and flip it over, or let it nest down on there. Take the other one, do the same thing, and then I'm going to close up the handle on my skillet. So it's just a little flip and then you squeeze, flip that around. And if you squeeze too hard, that will come out and I'm just going to replace that. And then it just fits inside the lip of that lid. And then we can grab our handy-dandy mesh bag and pop everything inside. Now I can't get these handles to fit inside the mesh bag. I just leave them out. You might have more patience or a little bit more finesse with yours, but mine, it's just such a tight fit with this bag that I just couldn't get it to go with those bail handles down. So it's not really a big deal, but just something to note.Once those are up and through those little cloth pieces, we can fasten it with the little hook. And that's pretty much all there is to it. So pretty quick and easy to get everything packed up. Once it's in this configuration, we're looking at about eight, I'm going to say eight and a quarter inches of height. And then the diameter roughly, say 12 and a half inches. So eight and a half, eight and a quarter by 12 and a quarter, might actually be a little bit more with those tabs on either side. So I'd say more like 13 inches, but pretty compact for having two good size pots and a skillet all in one unit. I think this will definitely feed a crowd. They say it feeds eight people. I think you could probably feed more than that from all of this.So I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is the right kit for you. We do have a lot of other gear from GSI Outdoors here at etrailer.com and all kinds of good stuff for RV-ing, camping and more. So be sure to check it out and thanks for watching..
