Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Durabilt Ratchet Chain Binder with T-Handle for 5/16" to 3/8" Chains

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Durabilt ratcheting chain binder with the T-handle for 5/16 inch to 3/8 inch size chains and has a 7,100 pound working load limit. Now, ratchet chain binders like this will increase the tension in a chain until it's taut using a twisting or ratcheting mechanism. The ratchet binders are often viewed as a safer option because they do not store as much energy in the handle, which reduces the risk of recoil and harming the user. And the ratchet binders have the lever and the screw working together, which means it takes less pulling on the handle to apply tension to the binder.

So, this part is perfect for agricultural and industrial tie-down applications. I want to zoom in and show you. Here's your ratcheting mechanism right here. This will make it easy to tension your equipment. You can see despite turning your handle, you're ratcheting it to tighten it up.

And then you have this lever here that'll change the ratchet rotation. So, if you push down on that, now you can go the opposite way and ratchet. If you wanna go the other way, push that lever back down, and you can go that way again. And that'll also allow you to safely remove the ratchet binder when you're finished. You notice on this one, has a nice T-shaped handle.

Gives you a nice, comfortable handle to ratchet with. Also, right down here, you'll notice there's a large hole in the handle, and they do that because then you can put a padlock through there for security, keep anybody from operating the handle. Now, the padlocks we do sell separately on our website. Now, on this binder, this one has the alloy forged 3/8 inch size grab hooks on both ends that should quickly connect to your chains. The load bearings right here, these do extend out.

They will unscrew out on both sides to provide extra reach when you're hooking your binder to your equipment. The screw diameter on these is 7/8 of an inch. Now, the distance between these bearings when it's in the closed, when both these bear, or eyelets here are tightened all the way down, in, it's closed. If we measured from this bearing to this bearing, it'd be 20 3/4 inches. If we open them up on both sides or unscrew them all the way as far as they'll go then if we measured it, it'd be the open position, it'd be 26 3/4 inches. So, it has a take-up length of six inches. The steel, this is a steel construction which is very durable. If you notice the handle and the barrel itself is a red paint finish, makes it highly visible. And you see they have that yellow zinc finish on the eye fittings, the links, and the hooks for corrosion resistance. This does meet or exceed the FMCSA 40, the CHP, CVSA, WSTDA, and the Department of Transportation standards. A few specs on this, this is, fits chains with 5/16 inch to 3/8 inch size thick links. Has a safe working load limit of 7,100 pounds, and a proof load limit of 14,200 pounds. The handle length on this, if measure from here to here, it's gonna be right at nine inches. And the barrel length is right at eight inches. But that should do it for the review on the Durabilt ratcheting chain binder with the T-handle for 5/16 inch to 3/8 inch size chains..
