Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Followed etrailer's YouTube install video, took a few hours by myself but it looks and works great!

Absolutely the easiest wiring harness to install ever!!! Would recommend this to anyone, even if you have limited mechanical skills it was a breeze, follow the video instructions and its a breeze.

Installation was easy to follow, directions were spot on. Still working as it should, on a 2020 Ford Explorer ALT. Everything was as described.

the way the package was on receiving it, I was surprised all the products were in the box--not your issue.
I ordered on Sunday and got notification later that day that the items were picked, packaged and ready for pick up. Can't beat that

2010 Ford Taurus

The day I received the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness I tore into my trunk of my 2010 Ford Taurus SHO to install. Super easy lug and play to each taillight. Two things to do which are to mount a ground then run a power wire from trunk to the front engine bay and connect the 10 amp fuse and attach to battery connection. Only took 45 minutes which I thought was good since this was my first time. Connected 4 pole harness lead to my trailer and everything works great

by:
Ford Explorer

Had the hitch put on my Explorer, fit great and looks like it came on it. have no complaints.

by:
2015 Ford Taurus

Installed easily on my 2015 Ford Taurus Limited. Hid all the wiring and works great.

2010 Ford Taurus

Installation in my 2010 Ford Taurus was relatively easy, and works great! Happy customer!

2010 Ford Taurus

Looked very intimidating at first. However, it took me about an hour to install harness. Longest part was fishing the power line from trunk, to engine compartment. I would recommend it to everybody.

by:

Was relatively easy to install (I used videos from the company's website). Has been working reliably since installation. One tip I have is to find a way to run this cable through the trunk/car wall to the outside (with grommet). Currently, I run the cable out through the closed trunk lid and the cable is showing signs of getting pinched.

Fast shipping, great quality hitch! Appears to be very heavy duty! Came with all hardware for installation on a 2022 Ford Explorer ST-Line. Would highly recommend!

by:

Fit perfectly, and the tutorial for routing the wire was on point.

this worked so well i bought a 2nd one

2020 Ford Explorer

great service and shipping

by:

The quality of the product was better than I expected. It works well and would probably handle almost any trailer lighting configuration. Like the fact that the trailer wiring has little demand on the cars wiring harness. High tech auto lighting easily adapted to old style trailer lighting. Installation took about two hours, mostly do to the routing of the main battery connection. My car was quite low to the ground, a little more room between the car and ground would have been helpful during installation of the main battery connection. Tried routing throw passenger compartment but couldn't find a good opening throw firewall.

2011 Ford Taurus

I purchased this hitch for a 2011 Taurus. The price was very resonable.
I'm 73 years old and I installed this by myself in less than 3 hours. The attached directions were very good and it was easy to install. I didn't have to drill any holes. The hitch included everything I needed to install the hitch. I also purchased the electrical kit. It also installed easy with great directions.
I was very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this hitch to anyone needing one.
I use it to pull a 6 x 8 foot trailer and have used it numerous times. It works great.

by:
2013 Ford Explorer

I installed the wiring on my 2013 Ford Explorer. I was glad you have provided with a video on how to install it very easy to do. Thank you

by:

All went well with the hitch. The videos were a big help! The wiring harness installation went well but I stopped to go to the store to get cable clamps and self tapping screws ( I used 5). Testing was easy with a trailer light tester hanging over my back seat. I could see all the test lights in my rear view mirror. Best of all it worked.

by:
2016 Ford Taurus

Excellent product. It is well designed and well made. As mentioned in my review of the trailer hitch, I haven't installed this hitch or wiring harness on my new car but I used the same system on my 2010 Taurus several years ago. This product has worked well for several years and it should do the same on my 2016 Taurus.

by:
Ford Explorer

I ordered this upon the advice of the customer service on the phone. Install was straight forward. The only issue was that my Explorer has a factory subwoofer on the passenger side. You just need remove the front too bolts closest to the tail gate. You can then shift the woofer enough to reach the passenger connector.

It took me about 1.5 hours, due to struggling with sub and ensuring that my wire routing to the battery was good.

  • Trailer Wiring that Fits a 2015 Ford Taurus
For trailer wiring for your 2015 Ford Taurus the part # C56093 is a confirmed fit and would work well. It would be what you would need since wiring from a Ford Edge would not be compatible.

  • Why is a Battery Connection Required for Trailer Wiring Installation on a 2012 ford Taurus
The trailer wiring harness # C56093 and any wiring harness that requires a direct connection to the battery uses battery power to power the trailer lights. If not connected, it will not work and the trailer lights will not come on. Also, this offers another level of protection between the trailer wiring and the vehicle wiring. The idea is that you are isolating the vehicle from the trailer as mush as possible to limit the chances of a short on the trailer damaging the vehicle wiring.

  • Does the Power Wire on Powered Trailer Wiring Harnesses Drain Vehicle Battery When Not in Use
No it will not. It only draws power when the turn signals, brakes, or running lights are turned on and there is a trailer connected to the 4-way. Otherwise there will be no power drain at all. I attached an install video for the Curt Wiring Harness # C56093 and an FAQ on routing the power wire for you to check out also.

  • Is Running the Modulite Power Wire Necessary when Installing # C56093 on 2013 Ford Explorer
The battery connection is indeed required, in fact the trailer connector won't function without it. To save money and weight, over the last 15 years the vehicle manufactuers have been using smaller gauge wire on the taillight circuits. In the past, when larger gauge wire was used, there was plenty of capacity to power taillight circuits using power tapped directly from the harness feeding the taillight assemblies. Now that smaller gauge wire is used, its safer for the vehicle and more...
