Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.Package came with all items included, Only hang up was that the included double sided foam tape for sticking the control unit to the car's body, was dried out. the plastic backings fell off and the glue was hard. I had to go buy automotive grade adhesive tape.

Good quality with no surprises. Only pain was running power wire from rear to front in a way it wouldnt rub and stay secure. Arrived within a week packed very good. Wouldnt hesitate using etrailer again

Easy to install just had to read direct ions
The hitch itself was excellent quality and well built, although an old ball mount I've used on my truck for YEARS wouldn't slide into the receiver for some reason. The wiring kit sucked!! The passenger side wire that goes from the driver side tail light was 18" too short, so I had to splice it to make it work. The 4 flat pig tail was nearly too short, but it worked. The really bad thing that doesn't make sense, was the 20' foot black wire for power you have to run to the battery. It hooks to a red hot wire with a fuse. That's stupid. In the 12v world, you don't hook black to a red. I think the maker is going "cheap" on this product. As a kicker, the double sided sticky tape to mount the module inside the driver side tail light had no stickem left on it when the backing was peeled away. It's like it sat out in the sun for 3 years. The whole process of installing the light kit was about 6 hours. I don't think I'd do it again. I'd just buy another car. Now that it's done, I'm happy.
First off, I’ll state that I have initial satisfaction with the overall quality of the Curt C56220 Wiring Harness Kit. I purchased this for installation on a 2015 Kia Soul ! model, which is equipped with LED taillights (this C56220 part number is specifically for those models with LEDs).
All of the individual components of the kit appear to be of high quality, and seem to be well-assembled; however, the span of wire length between the drivers-side T-connector and the taillight converter module is MUCH too short. Once the T-connector is installed in the drivers-side taillamp assembly, the short wire span forces the converter module to be very high in the narrow space between the lower corner fascia panel and the frame structure, and is only accessible “by feel”, with one arm stretched into this VERY narrow space past the elbow. This also makes it impossible to correctly mount the module, as it is now hanging suspended in the structure. This short wire span also forces you to connect the black power wire (leading to vehicle battery) BEFORE “mounting” the converter module (contrary to the printed instructions).. as I discovered after-the-fact due to the short wire length, and was forced to disconnect the T-connector and lower the T and module, to enable connection with the power wire, and then re-connect the T-connector. This was a lot of trouble and aggravation, and a waste of time.
Although one prior reviewer stated that he had to splice in extra wiring, I chose not to do so, and instead wedged some soft sheet foam packaging material around the converter module, to protect it from vibration and potential damage.
I would suggest this kit be re-engineered with at least 20-24” of additional wiring length between the drivers-side T-connector and the taillight converter module, for a conforming and correct installation.
We had a company install a wire unit on our KIA Soul, they installed the wrong unit. Hubby found out when he was following me and my lights flashed every time I turned right. When he found the correct unit on Etrailer.com he knew it was the correct one, it was for LED lights. He installed it in about an hour and now my lights are working correctly. Now we can go on vacation and not worry about the lights not working. Lights are brighter, and easier to see. Thank you for fast shipping and making fixing the problem so easy.
Easy to install, works well, I don't tow trailers a lot but I have confidence that when I plug it in, the lights will work. This is my 3rd. I have had 3 cars similar and each one needed a slightly different model of adapter but they have all worked well. Excellent product.
Nice product and shipped fast. Hitch was an easy install but the wiring harness took some finesse. Pre cut wires needed to be a foot longer so I had to splice the pre-made on the left light- bummer
Instructions are great and make installation easy! Bought a 4-flat mounting bracket and it makes the install look nice and neat like the vehicle came with it.
Would give this five stars if I didn't have to splice in six inches on the green wire between driver and passenger side, it's just that much too short. The hot wire going to battery is two feet longer than needed though. Otherwise everything is there that you will need. Sorry no pics.

Fantastic. Its very easy to remove and replace when needed. The quick connects make easy work of the installation and I will never go back to hard wiring again.
