Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is locatedin the rear cargo area, behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove all trunk floor coverings and the rear scuff panel, and you will need to pull back the felt trunk liner to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with a 4-pull flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years and models of the Chevrolet Malibu. To check and see if this is a fit for your vehicle, you can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com. This unit provides a four-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with 5-pull, 6-pull and 7-pull adapters. The adapters are sold separately and it's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points whenever the plug is not being used. It simply fits over there and presses down for a nice secure fit.
Now the black box on the unit this is going to be the powered taillight converter that connects directly to the vehicle battery, which is going to avoid overloading the vehicle's electric system. The unit is constructed using surface mount technology which is going to offer consistent reliable performance. What that does is it maximizes the trailer light field in intensity while producing minimal heat. It's also going to insure superior operation even in rough road conditions. Now when you're ready to install it it's a quick and simple installation. All you need to do is locate the connection points in your rear cargo area and then you're going to have two T-connectors. The connector with the green wire goes to the passenger side of the vehicle.
The connector with the yellow wire goes to the driver's side. Locate the connection points and plug in your T-connectors. These are custom fit for your vehicle. They're going to push together. They're going to snap-lock. They're going to be a perfect fit and the ports on the harness are going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle.
Once you have those connected on both the passenger and driver side of the vehicle, you'll need to make a ground connection. That's going to be a white wire with a ring terminal already attached to it. You'll want to get that grounded to a nice clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then you'll need to mount the converter box. Again, this is your converter box. You can mount this box using the provided double-sided adhesive foam tape.
You just want to get the unit mounted to a nice clean out of the way location. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the short black wire that comes out of the box. This gets connected to one end of the bundle of black wiring with one of the included butt connectors. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, gets another butt connector attached to it and connects to one half of the fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets the ring terminal attached to it and connects to the positive post to the vehicle battery. It also comes with your 10 amp fuse. It goes directly into the fuse holder and it's got the cap that goes over which is going to keep that safe and protected. Once you're done with all of that you can use the included cable ties to secure any excess or slack in the wiring. Once your install is complete the 4-way connector is going to be stowed in an out of the way location within the trunk of the vehicle. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of Dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pull connector itself. That grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. It is sold separately and it is available here at etrailer.com, if you're interested in getting some. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 3.0 amps per circuit. For the taillights we're looking at 6.0 amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pull flat trailer connector.
