Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panel. You will have to remove the floor covering, rear cargo area cover, and scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

The items were placed in a box and delivered to my driveway with no packaging material to be seen. Huge holes and the powder coating scrapped off. Heavy meatal items have made large holes in both long sides of the box and not sure if it is worth installing to see if bending or wiring harness has been compromised.
Curt makes some really good products, But they need to look closer at this... I changed the install so It's tons easier. Newer Toyota rav4's have the battery in the rear on the passenger side. This is very convenient for running power to the module. But they want you to mount the module on the other side of the vehicle and run power wires over. I mounted everything to the passenger side and then switched the signal wires for the turn signals (green and yellow). This is a much easier install than running additional wires all the way across. (See pics) Install and operation id great!!!
I recently ordered a Class 3 hitch and T-Style wiring harness system from Curt for my Rav4 Adv. The parts arrived at my doorstep on a Wednesday afternoon as promised, and I had completed the DIY install with the help from etrailer’s [online] videos for my car’s make and model that same night. Hardware fits great and appears to have strong welds and a solid protective coating, and the wiring system was completely plug and play as marketed. Recommended to me by a family member, and I would further recommend this product to any stranger.
Worked as advertised. Panels were easy to pull loose and snap back in place. Access behind panels was a little tight but was able to carefully route wires to complete install. Purchased Curt brackets to attach near hitch receiver.
Works great do not run it through inside interior panels go underneath the car my rav 4 has a shield where the break lines run needs to be up high enough too be able to crawl on your back to remove it work your way up to engine compartment feed wire up to your battery used wire zip ties to tie wire to your brake line put back together shield has plastic plugs don’t lose them or break them
Great hitch, well made, great design with hidden crossbar. Best product at best price for my 2020 Rav4. Comes loose in a cardboard box so expect minor damage to finish for protruding parts. Touch up with matte black spray paint if needed. If you figure a way to support the hitch receiver during installation that is adjustable, one person can put the receiver on without lowering the muffler, but lowering the muffler makes it easier to get the bolts in. Bolts on driver side can be torqued easily but due to narrow space on passenger side, you will need something like a "Stanley Proto J5124 3/8" Drive Torque Adapter 3/4"" to properly torque.
Ordered the trailer hitch and wiring harness on 7/17/23. Apparently due to high demand of the trailer hitch, delivery was delayed approximately 5 weeks. When the order arrived, the wiring harness was missing (it was listed on the packing list) as the box was opened and taped shut by UPS. Emailed etrailer a few times without a response, then called. The CSR requested I send a few pics of the box showing the torn flap and the box taped up. A replacement wiring harness was sent and received a few days later. I hope to install the harness in the next few days. There are plenty of you tube videos showing installation, so I don't expect any problems.
I always love shopping on etrailer.com. It’s easy to search and find the things I want when they have it. Delivery is expeditious and their customer service is amazing! I already received an email with additional instructions and videos for installation above what was delivered with the trailer hitch.
This kit came with everything needed to connect the trailer lights. The installation video for the Rav4 is for the hybrid model which has the battery in the back of the vehicle. This makes for an easy installation. My Rav4 is not a hybrid so the battery is in the engine compartment. The main power wire supplied is long enough to reach the battery, but I could not find a good way to get through the firewall. I ended up getting power from the fusebox under the dash. The adhesive pad included with the kit did not stick so I used some adhesive pads that I already had.
Great trailer hitch and wiring. Was easy to install and came with very clear instructions. Way cheaper than having one installed professionally.

This is the custom fit harness for the 2019 RAV4. Installation in the 2023 model (as described in the video) requires an additional self tapping screw, so pick one up before starting the install (I found myself using more that the provided number of tie wraps as well). Otherwise pretty seamless.
Works great, easy to install other then running the battery wire for power is a pain.

Still working after a year, only thing I did different from instructions was ran the power wire internally under the carpet and through the firewall instead of under the vehicle, takes more time but last so much longer
After a year and still working great towed my trailer multiple times and havent had one issue with harness.
Installed just like on the videos, just watch (some times rewatch) and follow the process. Everything worked on the first hook up and test. I highly recommend this product.
I hooked the power to the rear USB power my trailer is all led has a small power load one year and still working
The pictures in the instructions printed too dark but I didn't need them because of the excellent videos!
The video I followed to do the install made the project much easier. The system works perfectly. Too bad Toyota doesn’t have the wiring harness accessible under the rear floormat like the Subaru outback did.

Connector install works great. In lieu of drilling a hole for ground screw connection there is a 6 mm nut on inside wall behind left panel that allowed ground lug to be bolted to steel panel.Placing battery positive terminal cover back on after mounting positive wire lug was a challenge.

Wiring connected the the car's wiring without a problem. I did run into a few troubles though. I used this kit on a 2019 Rav4 Hybrid Limited. The wires from the left turn signal to the control box were too short of allow mounting to the the floor. I had to remove a speaker box to run the wire behind it and mount the control box. Since the wires wouldn't reach the floor I mounted the box to the wall behind the speaker, mistake, the box fit too close to the wall to allow room for the controller. I wound up mounting the controller the the lower left portion of the speaker box. After that everything went well.
Would have given 5 stars if wires had been a little longer

I ordered the hitch needed for my new car based on the car's description (year,make,model,trim). A perfect fit!
Had my mechanic install the hitch - it took less than 30 minutes. The job is very straight-forward especially if the car is on a lift. Dealer wanted over $400 just for the hitch- no installation included.
Just installed today so can't comment on durability but seems well made. Simple to install although a nuisance to disassemble trunk and run wire to front of car but that is not the kit's fault. The double side tape is useless but other than that no complaints.
This is the second time I have purchased a tow wiring harness. The first one was used on my 2019 RAV4 hybrid and this was is for my new 2022 RAV4 hybrid. Installation instructions and video give you all the support needed to confidently install this product for years of fault-free operation!

After a year of use, this wiring harness for my 2022 Rav4 hybrid has been great! No problems at all. I installed an original Toyota hitch assembly because cutting a hole in the bumper cover was preferred to installing a hitch receiver that was too close to the ground. I used a metal bracket to hold the 4-position connector and that has been very good also. It looks like my hitch and connector were installed by Toyota!

still holding up great no problems working great once in a will I spry a little bit off lithium great on plug ends both car and trailer so they go together a little easer try to keep ends from moister problems with plugs
