Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind your tail lights. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector-C57NR

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Now this is a custom-fit wiring harness that is designed to fit the 2021 - a Newer Ford F-150 with LED taillights. To confirm that this is going to work for your vehicle, take advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com and input the year, make and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will let you know if this wiring harness will work for you or if we have another wiring harness that will work for your vehicle. Now this harness is going to give you that 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector at the back of your F-150 to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-Pole, 6-Pole, and 7-Pole adapters.

And, of course, those are sold separately. And included is this dust cap that's going to protect this 4-Pole Flat Connector from dust and dirt and grime and moisture. And so that's going to be nice and clean for the next time that you use this. Now this black box on this harness is a powered taillight converter. This is going to ensure that your F-150's wiring matches that of your trailer and it connects directly to your vehicle's battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system, reducing strain on your vehicle's wiring system.

Now, Curt builds each converter using surface mount technology for consistent reliable performance. It maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity, while producing minimal heat, ensuring superior operation in rough road conditions. Now this harness is designed to connect quickly and easily. The connections with the yellow wires that I have right here are going to go to your driver's side and the connections with the green wires right here are gonna go to the passenger side of your F-150 and you are going to need to locate your F-150's taillight wiring harness behind the driver's side and passenger side taillights. You will have to remove the taillight assemblies to access this harness, and once you locate the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors you're then gonna separate the taillight connectors.

You do wanna be careful not to break the locking tabs and then you'll insert the T-Connector ends between the vehicle's wiring connectors and then lock them into place. These T-Connectors are custom-fit for your F-150, so they're going to match up perfectly with the connection points on your vehicle and they're gonna snap and lock together for a tight secure fit. Now once you have those plugged in you are going to need to make a ground connection, and the ground wire is this white wire, and it has a ring terminal attached to it, and it does come with a self-tapping screw. So you can get that ground, you can get this wire grounded to a suitable location such as your F-150's frame or crossmember. You just wanna make sure that the surface is clean and rust-free.

Then you will need to mount this converter box to a safe out of the way location. And you can do that with another mounting screw that you might have on hand or you can use this included double-sided adhesive tape or one of the many included cable ties that are included with this kit. Next, you will need to run the hot lead to your F-150's battery and that's this short black wire that's coming out of the converter box. This short black wire gets connected to one end of this included bundle of black wire, using one of the included butt connectors. And then the other end of this bundle that get, is going to get routed to your vehicle's battery. Once you have this routed to your battery, you are going to take the fuse holder that you see right here, and then you are going to connect one of the wires with the second butt connector to the routed wire. And then the other half of this fuse holder will get a ring terminal attached to it and that's going to connect to the positive posts of your vehicle's battery. As you can see, this does come with the 10 amp fuse and that's gonna go right into the fuse holder. And then this has a cap that's going to keep that fuse protected and safe. Now you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties and as I said, you're gonna have several cable ties available to you in this kit. And once the insulation is complete, this four-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle near the trailer hitch. Mounting bracket, which is sold separately, is recommended to keep the connector secure. So on your screen, I am including a mounting bracket for you to consider with the item number that you can add to your order if you are in need of a mounting bracket. And you can just take that item number and put it in the search field of our website and it will take you to that mounting bracket for your 4-Pole Flat connector. Now once the, after you have this all installed, this is going to be a fully functional four-way connector. And just some other bits of information that you might find helpful, the maximum amperage for the stop, turn lights, is 5.0 amps per circuit, and for the taillights, it's 7.5 amps per circuit. A great set of instructions is included with this wiring harness to walk you through the installation process and it is also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-Pole connector itself. It is designed to help prevent electrical failures caused by corrosion and moisture. So on your screen, I am also including the item number for this dielectric grease that we carry. And if that is something that you do not have and you would like to add to your order, again, just take that item number and put in the search field of our website and it will take you to that dielectric grease. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

  • Looking For Flat Tow Wiring Harness For 2023 Ford F150 Without LED Brake Lights
Hello Debbie, thanks for reaching out. it sounds like you are looking for a wiring harness to use while flat towing your 2023 Ford F150. We do have one option for a plug and play harness, the Hopkins # HM77VR. The Hopkins kits are not known for being super durable though, so my recommendation is instead to use the Roadmaster Smart Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit for Variable Voltage Incandescent Taillights # RM26FR. The Roadmaster kit does require splicing in diodes, but this system will...
