This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2020 Ford Escape vehicles, and on a custom fit part like this, I do recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show if this'll work for your application. This will provide this four-way flat trailer connector here, at the back of your vehicle, to power your trailer's signal lights, and it is compatible with five pole, six pole and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately.This does connect very quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate your connection points, which are behind the tail lights, plug in these T-connectors to both sides, one on the driver's side, one on the passenger side, ground your white wire, and then run this power wire up to your vehicle's battery.

It does include this black box here, which is a tail light converter, and this is to ensure that your vehicles wiring will match that of your trailer. And it is a powered module so it does connect directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system.This converter is constructed using SMT technology, which is surface mount technology, gives you more consistent and reliable performance. It will maximize your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it ensures superior operation in rough road conditions. It does also come with this nice dust cap for your four-way, so what you can do is just attach it to the four-way, and you can leave it attached if you want. Once you get it attached, and the cover will go over the terminals just like that, once you get it on there.

So when you're not plugged into your trailer, you can put the dust cover over there and it'll protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements.A few specs on this harness. The maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuits is three amps per side, the taillight six amps per circuit. It does come with everything laid out here. And just to go through briefly, what you want to do is when you go to install this, as we've mentioned, go to the rear of your vehicle behind the taillights. They do give you a nice set of instructions that'll show you where your connection points are, but you basically unplug your connections behind the taillights and then plug in these T-connectors.

You'll want to start on the driver's side, take the one that has the red and yellow wire, that's for the driver's side, plug it in behind the taillights, and then you'll take the other one with the green wire, that's for the passenger side.You can see it as a length of wire, so you'll run that over to the passenger side, plug it in. Once those are all plugged in, what you'll want to do is attach this converter box. It's sort of heavy so you want to attach it to a nice flat surface so it doesn't bounce around. They do have a little tab here you can put a screw through if you want, and they do also give you a piece of double face tape you can use. Once that's all attached and you're hooked up, you got these two wires.

This wire here with the four-way, you'll run this out the back towards where the trailer is, and then your remaining two wires, you'll have a white wire with an eyelet on it, this will connect to a good clean ground if there's one nearby. If not, they do give you a screw that you can make your own ground.And then this black wire is your power wire, that'll run to the front of the vehicle where your battery is, and they do give you the length of wire to do that. But you don't want to run it directly to the battery, you want to run it through this inline fuse holder. So they give you the connector, so you take a butt connector, connect it to one end of this wire, run it all the way to the front. When you get to the front, as we mentioned, you'll connect it to the inline fuse holder. So take your other butt connector, connect it to one side, and then on the other side of the inline fuse holder, you take your eyelet connector, connect it, and then connect it to the battery.Once that's all connected up, open it up, take your included 15 amp fuse. Go ahead and put your 15 amp fuse in your fuse holder, close it up, and now your system's all ready to go. They do give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring, but it's pretty simple installation.
