Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
Specs:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector. This product fits a 2007 to 2010 Kia Rondo and certain years of the Kia Soul. To see if this a fit for your vehicle, you can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com. This unit's going to provide a 4-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. The unit is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately, so if you need one, you can check out some options here at etrailer.com.
The kit does come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connectors, so that's a nice little features, because you can put that over the connection points when your plug's not being used, and it's going to include a taillight converter. This black box is the converter. It's going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. It's going to connect to the vehicle battery directly through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. Now, this unit is designed to connect quickly and easily, so you don't have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires. All you have to do is locate the connection points behind your taillights and plug in your connectors.
One connector's going to go to the passenger side, the other one's going to go to the driver's side. These are a custom-fit, so the connectors are going to match perfectly with the ports on the vehicle, and they're going to snap lock together for a nice tight, secure connection. Once you have those done, or connected, you'll need to make a ground connection. That's your white wire with the ring terminal on it. You want to get this grounded to a nice, clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then, you want to mount your converter box in an out-of-the-way location, and you can do that with the included cable ties.
Then, you can run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is this red wire here. It has a butt connector already attached to it. This is going to get connected to one end of the bundle of wiring. The other end of the bundle goes to the vehicle battery and gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector.
The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal attached to it. That gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. The kit does come with your 15 amp fuse. It goes in this area here, and it's got the fuse cap to keep that safe and protected. Now, once you have all that done, you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring that you may have with the included cable ties. Once your installation's complete, the 4-way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend purchasing and using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of the included grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. That grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector.

Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.I will never buy a hitch or anything from you guys again I have purchased from you in the past and I just bought a hitch and the wiring harness and the wiring harness was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen you got a run a wire positive wire from the tail light all the way to the battery in the engine compartment I have never seen that before And not put an amplifier in my truck with that I would expect it and now I wanted to return it just the wiring harness and you guys wanted to charge me for the shipping back to you therefore I will never and I promise I will tell everybody I know do not ever buy a hitch or any products from etrailer.com. I hope you guys put this on your website which I believe you won’t do
Could have done this myself, but had my Soul in the shop for brakes and decided to have the mechanic do it while it was on the rack. Relatively simple job, but easier to run wires.
Everything requires and quality parts. No issues a year later.

No issues, no complaints a year later
Wanted to fix my car so we could pull a trailer or use a platform with it to make travel a little easier with a special needs kiddo. Worked wonders and fit perfectly.

Awesome, very happy with how well it has worked.
All the others of these I have gotten all the hook ups are in the tail light area .... This one requires a separate wire always up to the battery very hard to do on a una~body .... If you buy this product make sure you have a lift Available

The separate power wire used on taillight converters came into being when the vehicle manufacturers started using smaller gauge wire in the vehicles taillight harnesses. With the smaller diameter wire, the circuits no longer have enough capacity to supply both the vehicle and the trailer lamps. Having a separate power source also helps provide some isolation between the vehicle and trailer circuits, helping to prevent any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring from damaging anything on the vehicle.
Etrailer has the best price around and ships fast
Haven't towed with it yet but install was very simple with basic tools. Took about an hour, including wiring.

Many of the newer vehicle wiring harnesses will require running a power wire to the battery. It allows the lights to pull power from the battery versus pulling the power from the rear wiring. This is done to better protect the more complex rear vehicle wiring. For the 2015 Kia Soul the only wiring option that does not run a battery wire is for the Kia that does not have LED lights. It is part # C56222.
