Installed in under 15 minutes.
Received the product with no issues but the installation video from the product page is missing a step, at least for my 2015 Chevy silverado 1500. The video assigned to the product page does not mention pulling the grey clip up before pushing the tab in to release the connector. I [online] it and found another video from etrailer showing this missing step. This is the video you should have associated with this product page. If you go to [online] and look up etrailer/ Trailer Connector Socket Installation- 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 you'll see that it describes pulling up on that grey clip BEFORE pushing in the tab to remove. I can see people breaking the connector by pulling on it to hard to get it out simply because they are frustrated like I almost did.
They put the package loose in the box with the trailer hitch so that it could bounce around during shipping. The package came open and the parts were scattered around the box and the screws were missing. They likely fell out of the giant hole in the box. Thankfully the connector itself appears to be undamaged.
The trailer hitch plus 7-4 Pole trailer connector all fit perfect on my 2018 Grand Cherokee. Installed it myself with the help of a couple of jack stands to support the hitch while I bolted it in. Saved a bundle over having the dealership install the Jeep brand. The hitch is barely noticeable. The only issue with a jeep is they do not activate the connector plug so I had to have the dealer activate it after I installed it.
Easy installation.
Here's some snaps of my Hopkins #40975 installation. I can confirm that it's an identical replacement for the 2014 Silverado 1500 trailer-light blank insert, no bracket required. It took me 30 seconds to plug the Silverado's OEM 7-pin round connector (located inside the blank insert) into the #40975 Wiring Kit and snap it into the cutout. Then I tested the flat 4-pin outlet of the #40975 with a 5 dollar 4-pin LED tester from West Marine, and all light functions tested good. Shweet! To remove the OEM blank plug, it helps to reach behind it and pinch the two spring clips holding it in place... same with the #40975 if it needs to be removed for some reason. When I ordered the part from eTrailer, your site had a comment, "This will not fit your vehicle. See below for compatible parts," or words to that effect. Maybe take a look at that and remove the comment, as the #40975 is an exact fit for 2014 Silverado 1500, no bracket needed. Thanks, eTrailer team!
It came with it's own bracket, which is a plus. It was compatible with etrailer.com's part number C56357, which is also a plus. The self tapping screws being the only hardware coming with the item was a disappointment. I just installed etrailer.com's part number 76301 hitch receiver which has a mounting plate for brackets like this. The self tapping screws, which might have been effective, wouldn't have looked "professional." After finding some hardware which worked, it went on smoothly and fits well with the rest of the assembly.
Prompt shipping.
Well built hitch.
The hitch was shipped in thin cardboard box which UPS easily destroyed.
Of course it didn't hurt the hitch but, the electrical hitch connector that I ordered at the same time was shipped in the same box. It's packaging was broken and we had to search the UPS truck to find all the parts. Would have been better to ship the smaller fragile parts in another box.
Thanks!
Scratched my head for a while, trying to find a quality way to connect this vehicle end 4/7 wire socket to my trailer ready (almost) 2015 Audi Q7. Finally decided that it really didn’t need to be bolted, but could be hose clamped to the existing heavy duty Audi bracket.
Mounted it sideways with a 1” diameter and a 3” diameter hose clamp. Be sure to use a 3” clamp with lots of serrations that all it to tighten it down a lot.
You’ll need to drill out the small hole of the supplied bracket to allow a clamp to fit through it. The other hole is a slot, and works unaltered. Small clamp on bottom, large clamp on top.
You’ll also need to relieve a small spot on the trim piece to make room for the 4-wire door to o-en freely. This is marked as red on one of the pictures.
Looks good and should work good!
I really like this connector. Having both the 7 and 4 poles available I don't have to mess with keeping an adapter that you can never find when needed.
I was happy the way this connector fit. I separated the mounting bracket from the connector because this was going to replace a damaged oem connector. It was an exact fit, snapped in with no issues. I also ordered the hopkins #40985 harness to mate to it. A previous owner of my vehicle spliced into the oem harness to bypass the the original 7 blade connector. I felt it best to restore as much of the oem harness as possible. You will see some pigtails that the other person left when they cut things off and left a mess.
I can say the #40985 and 40975 harness and connector look very close to original. NOTE, I downloaded the color codes and wiring diagrams from ETRAILER, which was a big help. keep in mind that manufacturers do not often follow standard color code, I used a test light to verify function. All in all it was a successful outcome
This product was exactly what I needed for adding a hitch and wiring to my 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The website was super easy to use and the installation video was so helpful. I installed this product myself in less than 30 minutes. Great customer service! Great communication! I will definnitely buy all of my trailer and towing needs from etrailer.com
This was a perfect fit to replace my stock 2011 F350 connector that had went bad. It took just about 10 minutes to swap it out - with about 5 minutes finding watching the etrailer video on how to disconnect the wiring harness from the old connector. It fit perfectly in my existing bracket.
I couldn't be happier, and etrailer has once again proven themselves as worthy of my 1st stop to shop.
Was exactly as stated in description. Just unplugged old plug and plugged in new one. I had two plugs to replace and added an extra "T" plug for another 4 prong. It only took less than 15 minutes to install all 3. Customer service is wonderful. Everything I have bought from ETrailer is top notch and delivered on time or earlier.
Perfect oem replacement. Exactly as advertised and fixed my issue.
I just received my package from Etrailer.com and it was nice to open the box and have the right part/part I ordered arrive. Opened up the box staged my parts and started the install. It was very easy with the instructions that were sent and the video on their site that anyone can do this install with no issues. Hitch was on in no less than 15 mins from opening of the box to final torquing of the bolts.
The customer service at this company is top notch. I have never had anyone from a company email me before after ordering from them like I did with this company and in business today you are seeing less and less of this type of customer care and service. AWESOME job Guys and Gals I will buy all my accessories from here.
Smashed on delivery by included hitch in package without any packing material…..
Direct replacement of the stock unit. I find that the spring door gradually loses its strength to hold the trailer plug securely in the socket…..
Worked great for factory cut out in my 2020 ford ranger!
Self tapping screws made installing sim ple.
Bracket was not long enough to accommodate my truck . Had to had to fabricate a little in order for the plugs to be able to mate properly with a trailer.
Could use additional hardware nuts bolts washers to fit bracket on hitch and mounting bracket for plug. Trip to hardware store, did not want to drill for self tap screw provided. Otherwise great plug.
This is a plug-in replacement for my 2010 Ford F-150 with factory installed trailer package. I had this exact same connector but someone unclipped it and stole it. Ford Parts wanted over $100 for a replacemnt (they included the entire rear bumper harness that I did not need). I had the cutout on the hitch that exactly matched this bracket and the blue socket that you see in the optional pigtail available for this product (see attached photo). I snapped this dual connector into my existing cutout - fit perfectly. Did not need to use the included bracket. So if your factory connector is damaged or stolen, use this as a snap-in replacement. The only difference is it says "Pollack" instead of "Ford". I called Hopkins before I bought and they said they supplied a lot of the OE parts Ford uses.
My package was broken into during shipping and the connector socket was taken. etrailer immediately shipped me a replacement when I notified them. Great customer service
I actually used different heavier bolts than what it came with and it is solid on my Jeep. On my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited it had a plug in the back that plugged right in. You do have to go to a dealership that knows what they're doing to have them activate that port in the computer system for it to actually work. I ended up going to two dealerships and the second dealership knew what they were doing and it cost me $150.... To me the price of doing it myself and plugging it in and even going to the dealership was way cheaper than having someone else do it and splice into wiring that only gives you four live wires instead of all eight if you're telling something heavier
