Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Nissan Titan

Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 Nissan Titan, we're going to be installing the factory-style seven-way and four-way flat vehicle and trailer connector. Part number N40975.This trailer wiring kit is going to connect directly to our factory harness. It's going to provide a seven-pole connector and a four-pole connector. Both connectors are going to provide you with all the necessary lights that you need for your trailer, including your turn signals, brake, tail lamps. You'll also get reverse lamps and trailer power in your seven pole. The doors are spring loaded with a rubber sealed gasket on the inside to keep out any debris or moisture. Also included in the kit, you get all the necessary relays to plug right into your factory relay box to provide proper operation at your trailer connectors.

There's no cutting, slicing or running any wires on this kit. Everything's plug and play and ready to go.It's extremely easy to install. We'll show you how to do that now.To assist with the insulation, we'll be using long bracket. This will help to get our seven-pole connector out so we can easily attach it. We'll set the bracket in position, run our strap around it, push it back through as far as we can, and then snap down the screw.

Now double check our positioning, make sure we have it where we want it, and tighten it down.We can then trim away any excess. We'll then take the two screws, put them in the appropriate holes for our seven-pole connector bracket. Slide our seven-pole connector bracket into position, and then put the locking nuts on the other side. And then tighten them down with a 10 millimeter socket. Now take your seven-pole connector and slide it in the bracket. We'll then locate our factory seven-pole connector.

Just give it a little twist. It will pop off of its normal mounting location, and to extend the wire out a little bit further to reach our connector, we're going to take some pliers and pop out the clip up there. We can now feed the connector over the hitch, press the release tab on top, and pull out on the plug. And then take some dielectric grease, fill up our terminals here, and that will help keep out any corrosion and moisture.Once it's filled with grease, simply plug it in to your seven-pole connector, and now we're ready to install our relays. We're here under the hood on the passenger side, just behind the battery.

We'll open the cover to our relay box and we'll install both of the blue relays, and the open white connectors here, and the brown relay, and the open brown connector there. Start with our brown relay. Just push it on. Make sure it's in snug, and do the same with the two other relays. Now you can put your cover back on.We'll now plug in our trailer or tester, check for proper operation. Here we have our left turn, right turn, brake lamps, and tail lamps. You can also see in the top right gauge that our trailer's receiving it's 12-volt power. And now with everything working properly, we're ready to hit the road. And that completes our installation of the factory-style seven-way and four-way flat vehicle and trailer connector on our 2017 Nissan Titan.

Product worked great had no power to the left turn signal after doing some research online found [online] video where there’s two hidden fuses near the steering column wiring harness and one head blown due to prior towing…. Supposedly only applies to 2004 2005 Nissan titans 2006 and later according to forums Nissan fixed it and put additional fuses and relays in the fuse block under the hood

Installation was easy. We cut out the plastic on the bumper to install. Looks just like it was installed at the factory.

Although I have not installed it yet, it looks to be of good quality. As far as I can tell i think I will be able to mount it in the factory oem location in the bumper. Nissan doesn't sell the trailer plug separately from the factory hitch so this saved me lots of cash.

After having it on the truck for a year, its still working great. No issues.

Bought this hitch and the 7/4 way plug and relay kit for my daughter's Titan as a Christmas present. She was excited and wanted to install it herself. The products are great quality and the videos extremely helpful. I had her watch the videos, got out the 1/2 impact and cordless drill and turned her loose. With minor supervision and help she had it all installed in less than 45 minutes. The hitch bolted right on with the bolts provided. We did drill some pilot holes for the 2 self tapping screws provided for the 7/4 way plug bracket only because I was afraid we might dull one before it cut through. For anyone with a general knowledge of tools and their uses this project is a snap. I highly recommend these products.

Saturn Relay

received the connector and relays the relays installed very easy in the relay box located in the engine compartment, how ever the 7 way - 4 Way connector and bracket that the site recommends and shows an install did not work as the OEM connector that is located in the rear on the passenger side of the bed even cutting the connector wiring loose as recommended did not have enough length of wire to reach the installed bracket. I did notice that the Bumper from the rear has a cutout for this connector, but the plastic over cover on the bumper covers this cut out so I cut out the area using the bumper metal cutout as a guide then the connector snapped into the cutout and then the OEM Harness reach the connector with no problem, looks like it was Factory installed.

- N40975
by:

This plug was very easy to install. I was able to use the cutout in my bumper to install the plug and the harness on my truck plugged right into it. I didn't have to use the bracket that came with it. The relays were simple to install. This is an awesome product.

2015 Nissan Titan

The product matched up mounting holes to the hitch I got so I was able to use some bolts and nuts I had to mount it to a plate in the new hitch. The factory 7 pin harness on my Titan plugged directly into the unit and it worked perfectly. Took about 5 minutes to install. Simple and easy.

The product was everything I needed minus an extra blue relay which I did not realize needed to be ordered additionally. I should have read the comments section of others who had ordered this and would have known ahead of time. I ordered the extra blue relay and once it arrives everything will be complete. The installation was straight forward. Drilled some pilot holes for the bracket unto the bottom of the hitch cross bar. Used the supplied self tapping screws to mount the plate. Popped in the 7/4-Way Flat Vehicle End Trailer Connector, plugged the factory installed trailering plug into this, and the relays under the hood fuse box (marked by factory) and all worked perfectly. Need the extra blue relay for the under dash trailer wiring connection for driving lights to work on trailer. It is to the left of the steering column, mounted on a metal support bracket behind the plastic knee protector area. This same area is where you would plug in the e-brake connection if you wanted to add that. Hope this helps.

Easy to install (with a little help lifting from my son). This is my second Titan, and I was concerned about the ride quality (road vibration). In addition to being a quality hitch, it also supports the rear frame. Noticeable improvement in ride quality. Very pleased with this purchase.

2004 Nissan Titan

This Kit worked perfect for my 2004 Nissan Titan XE. Easy install, it attaches right to the factory harness. My truck only requires 2 of the relays because its a 2004. One blue and one brown....... A note for anybody trouble shooting any power issues {blinkers or lights on trailer not working} there are 2 hidden fuses that were installed on most first generation Titans as a dealer recall. They are located in the wire harness bundle underneath the steering wheel. If either one of these are blown, you will need to replace for the trailer harness will work. Hope that helps. I would definitely recommend this product !!!!!!

2010 Nissan Titan

Easy to install on my 2010 Nissan Titan. All I had to do was plug it into the factory wiring. The only problem I ran into was there is a third relay that needs to be installed for this to work properly. Without it all of the trailer lights worked except for the running lights. I took my truck into a Nissan dealer and they added the relay, somewhere under the dash.

Ordered for new hitch install on '06 Titan. Put the hitch on first then realized I could have installed the plug mounting plate on the hitch bracket first and would have been easier. Regardless, still installed in about 10 minutes so no complaints. Fit perfectly and looks good too. Nice quality plug. Overall, very satisfied with purchase.

The product is excellent quality and functions as it should but I purchased it based on etrailers recommendation. The video etrailer shows is a little deceiving. The hitch, which I bought from etrailer as well, is not the same as the one in the video and the long mounting bracket only fits in one spot because the factory harness has so little slack in it. Don’t get me wrong, it works great but looks a little silly because it’s pointing away from the hitch.

Wow!!! From the time I opened the package to the time I was ready to hook up to the trailer was 13 minutes!!!! My '07 Armada needed the extra blue relay under the dash, but thanks to your forums and customer reviews I was prepared for that by the time the package arrived. I ordered on a Sunday night and even with a blizzard hitting your area of the US hard, I still had my parts by that following Friday morning!!! Bravo to all who put customer service #1that is something that seems to have been forgotten by many companies but obviously not etrailer.coms!!! Thank you for providing exactly the product that was described, and the service that you promised!!!! Sincerely, Jason, Missie, and Family

  • No Trailer Turn Signal or Brake Lamp Signal on 7-way Trailer Connector-2004 Nissan Armada
Since you have the proper relays in place, I'd check the tow package fuses and make sure they're in place and not blown. The online owner's manual I looked at didn't have a fuse diagram, so I'd recommend pulling the cover off the fuse box under the hood and checking out the fuse diagram on the lid to find the fuses for the trailer turn signals and brake lamps. Make sure they're installed and still good. Replace as needed.

  • Availability and Installation of Trailer Wiring Harness on 2007 Nissan Titan
It sounds like you are wanting to install a 4-Way connector to the rear of your 2007 Nissan Titan for your tailgate light bar to plug into. If you do not have a factory 7-way on the rear of your 2007 Nissan Titan you can use the Hopkins 7-Way and 4-Way Vehicle End Trailer Connector, part # N40975, you have referenced. This connector comes with the three relays and the mounting bracket. It plugs into the vehicles wiring harness behind the bumper and gives you a 7-Way and a 4-way at the...

  • Troubleshooting Left Turn and Brake Lights Not Working on a Trailer Towed by a 2004 Nissan Armada
The problem you are experiencing could be associated with a bad ground and/or corrosion in the trailer side or vehicle side connectors. I would start by cleaning out any dirt or corrosion from the front and back of the trailer connectors to see if that fixes the problem. If not, I would move on to checking the ground on the trailer. Make sure the ground from the trailer plug is attached to a clean metal surface. Then you can check the grounds at the tail lights. On many trailers, the tail...

What it sounds like to me is the relay could be blown. Since you know where the relays are located, check your relays by replacing with a new relay. This is the best way to tell if you have a bad relay somewhere. I would still recommend looking at your owners manual to locate other potential relays and fuses related to the tow package wiring. Since your 7-way vehicle end connector is cracked, you could always replace it with # N40975. It also includes the 3 relays required to activate...

It is possible that the relays are not in the correct locations for wiring harness # N40975 . Consult the owners manual for all of the locations and make sure they are in the right spots. Since you said you have all of the correct relays this is the most likely explanation. It is also possible that you have a bad relay. You can try swapping a known working relay from a different circuit into the right stop/turn circuit to see if that causes the circuit to work.

There are a few things that you can check to see why you do not have power for your running lights at your trailer connector. The first thing to check would be the pin in the connector for any corrosion or dirt buildup. If the pin looks clean and your vehicle has a factory tow package, then the issue may very likely be a blown fuse or faulty relay since the running lights worked last year.
