Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

1993 Honda Pilot

On '93 Honda Pilot, installed wiring harness in about 20 minutes. Also installed Draw-Tite tow bar (75599) and Tow Ready 4-Flat Universal Mounting Bracket (118149) to stow wiring harness plug. None of the wiring harness is visible from rear of vehicle with only 4 - 6 inches underneath. All of the wire is tucked away in rear threshold where I found two grommets leading underneath the vehicle. After cutting out a space in the grommets for the wire harness to run I reinstalled grommets back into place. Very neat install, wire is snug behind threshold where plug was located. Worked as advertised.

I have been using this harness for a year with a small utility trailer and my Honda CRV. Easy installation with very clear photos and instructions worked great for me. Quick response and delivery from etrailer was great.

@Charles Great, thanks for checking in!

I didn't have to pull off the rubber door gasket but I did have to remove the plastic piece across the back which broke the plastic fasteners. I think I needed a Phillips screwdriver and 10 mm socket wrench. I used the double stick tape that came attached to the module and didn't bother with the screw, where it is located I don't think is going to move. There is a cigarette lighter socket that should be removed before pulling the panel out but even without taking that step it wasn't hard to straighten the tabs and plug it back in to the connector.

About a 20 minute job, not difficult.

Excellent product still, I would buy another one for my next car as well.

The hitch is compatible to Honda CR-V (model 1998) and apparently fits well. One must be careful to adjust the exhaust system and check the engine rotation for smooth operation, otherwise it could produce noise. The electrical wiring is easy to install with little effort. My purpose is specifically to haul garden and landscaping items and this is a worth spending.

by:
2000 Honda V6

I had an old wood stove that needed to be transported to the metal scrap heap at the local landfill. The hitch and drawbar were already in my possession but I needed trailer wiring for a rental trailer. I looked at the trailer rental store's offering of a generic harness that involved splicing as part of the installation process; I suppose it would work just fine but this product seemed to be much easier to install. After the removal of three trunk lining fasteners I had access to the wiring plug that is standard issue for my Honda. I connected the etrailer mating half of the plug to the Honda plug, fussed with the location of the "box" and the wiring a little and I was done except for verifying with a voltmeter that all the functions were working. When not in use the bulk of the wiring is hidden in the spare tire well underneath the trunk floor panel.
This harness works just fine on my 2000 Honda V6. I'm happy.

by:
2003 Honda Pilot

The trailer wiring harness was a great solution and I have attached some pics of how i ran the wires for the installation. I found some access holes in my 03 Honda Pilot to avoid pinching the wires in the liftgate.

by:
2005 Honda Pilot

Product functioned as expected. The fact that harness can be stored in vehicle is good. Thanks

by:

The trailer wiring harness worked perfectly. Getting the panels off my Honda Element was a job but the wiring harness worked as intended.

by:
Honda CR-V

Haven't fully tested it, but installation was easier than anticipated. I recommend watching the video for options for routing the wires to the storage compartment in the CR-V. I cut a small slit in the corner, closest to the bumper, of the storage compartment and pulled the wires through. Honda provides a great place to store the wires! -A.

by:
2006 Honda Pilot

I installed the 4 pin quick connect harness and the ETBC7 universal 7 pin kit on my 2006 Honda Pilot EXL to get it ready for towing our popup camper. The instructions are clear and the installation was fairly easy but did take over 4 hours start to finish. Connected to a tekonsha voyager BC taken from our old tow vehicle. The installation looks professional, I know it was done right, and saved about $200.

amazing hitch Perfect fit made with high quality and very easy install, from all the hardware necessary to tools to make the job even easier, all wiring was plug and play and very detailed instructions, I wouldnt buy from anyone else!

The harness fit properly, worked properly. That's all you can really ask of a harness.

by:
2006 Honda CR-V

This hitch was exactly as advertised and fit my CRV perfectly!!! Used spray bottle with soap & water to lube the two upper muffler rear hangers and they slid off with little prying needed (did not need to remove the lower hanger in front of muffler). etrailer's installation videos for installing both this hitch and corresponding 118336 wiring harness were spot-on and very helpful (also a good video on the Curt website). Took my time tightening the hitch bolts to specs which was a bit awkward until I thought to use my ratchet extension bars. Maybe the easiest "car repair" I've ever done, and probably saved a lot of $$$ doing it myself. If you can change your oil, you can do this installation no problem!
Also, etrailer promptly shipped this product for free (thanks, guys!) and it got here a day early. GREAT COMPANY! When I save up enough to buy roof rack rails in the near future, I'll be back...

by:

Worked great for my 2004 Honda Pilot. It was an easy plug-and-play installation. I did not rout the 4-pin connector to the exterior of the vehicle since I don't tow frequently. I just left it inside under the storage well where I can access it and drape it over the bumper when needed. The hatch seal can close over the flat cable without damaging it.

by:

Items were packed pretty well, nothing seemed to have moved or been damaged during shipping. Part fit as good as OEM, all hardware was correct and the harness fit perfectly.

by:
Ford Edge

Easy install. I won't know if it works until I attach a trailer. I had to bend the edge of the hole that I passed the wire through. It bent back easily enough.

2008 Honda Pilot

Fastest delivery I have ever had. Ordered Wednesday at 5PM, arrived Thursday at 3PM. I'm only a couple hundred miles from Wentzville, but still, excellent. The hitch receiver (2008 Pilot) installed quickly and easily. No need to remove spare or lower muffler. I supported the left end on a large cooler and quickly maneuvered the right side above the tail pipes. The mounting holes were right on target. I had to tap mine to remove rust, but that's easy as well. The wiring harness was also a snapto install. Simple to plug into existing fitting and the wiring box tucked away nicely beneath the trim as advertised. There are options about what to do with the wiring tail and trailer connector. I chose the method shown in the video...leave it rubber-banded in the storage well. Others have run it outside through available holes, but I did not want to leave it exposed to road grime. etrailer's videos were very detailed and shown on my specific vehicle for both the hitch and the wiring harness. Good values as well. If I were Draw-Tite (or Curt) I would include a complementary rubber plug with their logo...cheap advertising.

All products holding up well. Easy install, good quality. Works as advertised.

2004 Honda Element

This was pretty easy to install and works great on my trailer. The installation instructions were not exactly correct for my 2004 Honda Element AWD Ex. The number of screws and plastic plugs that needed to be removed to pull the passenger side trim panel clear to access the vehicle's connector did not match the instructions. I found it essential to unbolt the right rear shoulder strap from the floor of the vehicle. This allowed much better access to the wiring behind the panel to plug in the connector for the harness. The adhesive on the black box that comes with the harness was weak, and didn't stick to anything behind the panel.

Yes I still like them!

by:

Easy to install. Ran the wires down through some plugs in the body and silicone them up. Cut the end off and wired it to a 7 round that I connected to the hitch using a bracket.

by:
2003 Honda Pilot

Great product! Installed on a 2003 Honda Pilot. Easy installation. Removed trim plate at rear of cargo area without any tools. There was a plug under the plate that you simply plug the wiring harness into. I leave the wiring harness in the storage area for the head rests when not in use. When I need it I pull it out connect it to my trailer and gently close the rear tailgate on the wires.

Yes I am still completely satisfied with both the hitch and wiring harness.

  • Location of Passenger Side Panel to Install the T-One # 118336 on a 2004 Honda Element
The passenger side trim panel is located at the rear of your 2004 Honda Element. When you open the rear hatch on your Element it is the panel directly to your right. This is where you will connect the Tekonsha T-One # 118336. Before removing the side panel you do need to remove the cargo door on the floor and also remove the screws holding the spring loaded hinge cover. I have linked the installation details to this answer page for you to check out.

  • Why Does Trailer Wiring for 2004 Honda Pilot Route Through Back Door
Having the 4-way run out of the back hatch is actually the preferred method although it seems like it wouldn't be. Having the 4-way stored inside the cab of the vehicle keeps it protected from rain and moisture to prevent corrosion and keeps it protected from damage to the wiring or connector by rocks or debris that might be on the highway. You can run the wire through the vehicle if you wish but just keep in mind that this does take more time and you may end up needing additional wire...

  • Left Side Trailer Lights Don't Work When Towing with 2003 Honda Pilot
I agree that it sounds like you have a ground issue. Ground problems often present themselves through strange wiring issues. It is not uncommon for only one side of the trailer lights to not work, or the lights to dim when the blinker is used, when there is a ground issue. You could have a problem with the converter box in the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118336, but to be sure, I would test the connector with something other than a plug in style test light. A trailer or a circuit tester like the Quickee # 3808 would be better. Some times, the plug type testers can cause a malfunction. The black converter box on Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118336, is for use with vehicles, like your 2004 Acura MDX that have separate turn and brake light wires. Some vehicles send only one signal per wire, creating what is called a 3-wire system: one wire for the left turn, one wire for the right turn, and one wire for the brake signal (common on vehicles with amber turn signals). A converter will reduce it to a standard 2-wire system needed for wiring a trailer. There are still...
