Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

The vehicle specific kit was relatively easy to install. it works great and when we had issues with the wiring harness collar coding Customer Service was right there to walk us through the install.

Has worked perfectly on my 2007 JEEP Liberty, hooks up to the standard
trailer plug and works great. Made 4 trips with a trailer in tow, absolutely perfect function for lights.

Installation was a breeze, I watched a few install videos. I did a few more steps than one would expect, mostly to secure the module into the chassis cavity of the left rear light cluster, and the B+ BLACK wire connected to the yellow fuse clip, and then the car battery POS terminal.

The mounting bracket was attached to the chassis with the included screws, BUT I drilled and then tapped the holes (were they 8-32 or 10-32 ? ) to screw the bolts directly into the chassis.

Gooped the bolts with a gel lithium grease for rust protection when I screwed
them into the chassis metal.

Suggections! Please replace the black B+ positive wire with a RED color insulation
wire, to maintain correlation with standard DC color coding for wiring.

Add a good 12-14AWG yellow jacket butt splice to the kit for the BLACK B+ positive
wire to the YELLOW fuse clip wire. I had to use one of my own stock, the butt splice you sent would not accept the 12 gauge wire.

Thanks guys! Highly recommend this kit for a 2007 JEEP Liberty.

Comments
Still working perfectly. Has not been a problem. I did tell a fellow Jeep Liberty owner about the availability of the kit. I shall definitely return for any more products for my Jeep. Big Thank you !!

2018 Jeep Liberty

I purchased a trailer hitch for a Jeep Liberty about 18 months ago. Installation was simple with the instructions provided with the hardware and the videos on this site. I would encourage others to heed their warning that corrosion and rust should be removed from the holes on the vehicle before installing a hitch. Anyway, not only did the site contribute to simple installation, but their customer service was excellent. I received my hitch sooner than expected, which was beneficial because I needed to use it quickly. The whole system has been working great for this entire time. I have no complaints and will continue to use this site.

by:

Insructions were clear. Everything I needed was in the kit. Works perfectly.

Hitch and wiring was ordered on Monday am, was at my door Wednesday 6pm. Very easy installation, good product. My only problem was that the bolts supplied with the hitch did not fit my Jeep. I had to go to the local hardware and buy 6 grade 8 bolts in the proper size, at 79 cents apiece.
I cleaned the nuts with a tap, still the provided bolts would not fit, but the ones from the hardware screwed right in. I did read the reviews on your site for this hitch, others have had the same problem.
That said, I would do business with e-trailer again.

by:

My experience with etrailer.com was a great one. The sales rep. Rebecca N. was so delightful and knowledgeable. She walked me through the entire process right down to installation. Installing the hitch and wiring harness was simple. Thank you Rebecca and etrailers.com!
I will refer and do business with etrailer.com in the future.

2003 Jeep Liberty

Works great on my 2003 Jeep Liberty.

Installation
was very easy - other than running the power wire through the frame to the battery. The posted video was very helpful in figuring out the routing for that wire.

This was my first etrailer.com order and I am incredibly impressed by how complete and helpful the site has been - thanks!

by:
2007 Jeep Liberty

Very easy installation on my 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport. I ran the wire from the battery underneath the vehicle along the same route as the rear brake lines up and over the rear axle and then to the trailer wiring harness.

by:
2005 Jeep Liberty

It seems bizarre that you write a review about somebody doing exactly what they said they would do for you. Well, my experience has been horrible with customer service in the last 5 years. Then along comes e-trailer. I ordered the part and it shipped the same day. I had a confirmation email letting me know what part was on the way along with the tracking info. I had an email letting me know it was delivered to my house. Installation was a snap with best directions I have used in a long time. This was a great experience and it was handled with best customer service experience in years. Thank you e-trailer.

2006 Jeep Liberty

Very satisfied with the product and the service.
Installation was very close to the video instructions.
The only thing keeping this from getting the highest mark: the wire loom and self tapping screw called for in the installation instructions for the black power wire were not included in the package, that required a trip to the store.

by:

Product came as described. Easy to install. Really like the YouTube videos to help with the install. Most time consuming part was running the wire to the battery. Very Satisfied and much better than splicing wires.

etrailer understands no nonsense customers requiring real customer service. This is a rare business attribute nowadays.

The harness

2005 Jeep Liberty

The product fits and works as advertised. Install too about 3 hours. 15-20 minutes for the harness connections and wire routing at rear of my 2005 Jeep Liberty and the rest of the time spent routing and securing the battery wire. That was the hardest part of the install.

by:
2002 Jeep Liberty

Plugged right in! Couple quirks, needed a Torex 20 screwdriver and used more zip ties than what was included. Also, tried stuffing the control unit into the bumper area before I realized I could just stick it to the light housing itself. Much easier. Net took about 1.5 hours and most of that was crawling under the jeep routing the power line up to the battery. Easy....

This isn't my first installation of wiring for a trailer but this kit covered everything. I've never had to run the wiring to the battery but it all worked out and it's working beautifuly.

Jeep

Shipment arrived a day early, very easy to install. This is to replace one I bought from a different company and it burned out in a year. The quality of this T connector appears to be superior to the one I had. A tad bit more expensive then the old one (about $20.00 more), but a real bargain compared to the $180.00 Jeep wants for theirs.

by:
2004 Jeep Liberty

The product has been working very well for over a year now, towing my boat and trailer without difficulty or problems. I'm very pleased with the price and performance of the product. Thanx.

  • Troubleshooting No Left Turn Signal on T-1 Wiring Harness for a 2006 Jeep Liberty
If you are checking the harness, item # 118524, without the trailer hooked up and there is no power on the yellow left turn circuit coming out of the converter, then you will need to check the ground wire on the vehicle and be sure it is securely connected to a good ground point. Then check the connectors behind the taillights and be sure they are securely connected. If all checks out then your converter has shorted out somehow and will need to be replaced. If you are checking the yellow...

The problem you are having is a classic ground issue. If the ground wire to the trailer frame or the tail light grounds are not connected securely to clean, rust and paint free surfaces then when the headlights are turned the extra amperage draw for the running lights will cause all sorts of lighting issues. I would start by removing the ground wire at the trailer coupler and cleaning up the connection point and re-securing it to the trailer frame. Next I would check the ground connection...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade
The wiring harness I recommend for your 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade is the TowReady # 118524 because this particular 4-pole wiring kit offers the highest current output capacity. That means your trailer's lights will be brighter and you'll be less likely to have any overload issues. This wiring harness simply plugs in to your Liberty's tail lights, as shown in the linked video, and you'll have to route and splice only one wire. That wire routing process is outlined in the linked article.

You will have to remove the tail light assemblies from the rear of the vehicle to access the connection points. There are just a few screws holding each tail light on. • Troubleshooting Smoke and Melting Trailer Wiring on a 2002 Jeep Liberty After 4-Way Install
Most likely the problem you described is from a short on the trailer wiring. Running a powered converter is a great idea as it protects the taillight circuits of the vehicle it is installed on. But if you are seeing smoke, melted wire, and fuses blowing immediately the problem is a short somewhere on the wiring that is WAY overdrawing the circuits. If the smoke started after plugging the harness into your trailer then the problem is the trailer wiring, if the smoke started after plugging...
